Is Having Children a Purely Selfish Act?
by ThomasCovenant inmany years ago a childless witness couple said to me that they didn't want any children.. we discussed some of the pros and cons of having them and then they said that they could only think of selfish reasons for having them.. i found it hard to argue against that.
not selfish in a nasty way of course but for the benefit of the parents nonetheless.. they now have two children.. what are the unselfish reasons for wanting children?.

Then theres the closet full of practical shoes you accumulated doing house to house. The shapeless dresses you own that are pretty much one-size-fits-all that you can still wear if you gain 20 pounds from eating at Micky D's every day. If you are a guy you learn how to roll up microphone wires so that has a practical application...for like....hoses. You dont have to care how you look any more because nobody else does. You always have a couple of suits to wear to that interview for that job you dont have qualifications for anyway. You get to travel the world...to places hardly anyone else has lived in or traveled to. You have a myriad of "friends" no matter where you go in the world. And you never graduate from the ministry school so you can be a student the rest of your natural life.

My Monday date - I just heard from him
by Newborn inhe basically wondered if we could talk this weekend.
i suggested a walk.
at least i know he's thinking about me.. always something.

Thats really nice. And walks are good on a lot of levels and nothing is expected of you but to put one foot in front of the other. And there doesnt have to be constant conversation to enjoy the time together.

Would the world be a better place if there was no religion?
by LouBelle inin many ways it would, because there has been so much bloodshed, torture, misunderstanding between humans because of their different religions and all done in the name of their god.
today everyone still wants their faith to be right & many arguments have been had over who is right and wrong.. then again religion has kept many people in check - doesn't allow the masses to run around willy nilly in their freedom.
it controls the masses.

Being religious never kept anybody from committing sins against their fellow humans. People who follow the guidance of their religions tenets probably are basically good people and would do that stuff anyway even if it wasnt written in some "holy book" some where.
A whole lot less people would have been massacred over the millieniums without religion being the basis for their skirmishes. The middle east is a prime example.

Need to vent - being hassled by elders!
by wildfell innearly two years ago my husband and i abruptly stopped attending meetings.
we had one or two visits from an elder that i disliked, but that stopped when i told him not to come back.
we were patting ourselves on the back that we had been left alone.

She has the RIGHT in her OWN HOME to expect PRIVACY and doesnt have to get herself DAd and SHUNNED just because you think she deserves this treatment because those are JWs doing it. I cant frickin believe it. It sounds like you still have one foot in the door for you to be supporting this abhorrent behavior.

Oprah. Crazy as that may seem. She and I are the same age short a few months. From Chicago where I lived for 45 years. And no matter how powerful that woman is or rich, she has the same basic problems the rest of us do...including problems with her weight, and getting depressed now and again, and feelings of low self worth.
Money doesnt get you everything. She is very down to earth and many of the people she has had on, have helped me along the way in my life emmensely. If I could spend a day with anybody on the planet...she'd be it.

I dont give him that long at all. I think he will be gone within the year. I dont know of a cancer more deadly than Pancreatic. Watched my sister in law die of it. She went from finding out she had it in November to dead by May 1. 44 years young
Scares the hell outta me. I panic every time I have a pain on my right side.
