i was assigned to read 1984 by george orwell when in the eight grade i think.
now forty years to late to turn in a 'book report' i am reading it.
i see so many parallels to the witness org there.
It was only 36 years ago I was in the 8th grade. Glad to get that cleared up before someone thinks I am 'old'
LOL@ Jeff
perfection
after a discussion with a couple of current jws, it's come to my attention that my conception of perfection in "the kingdom" is very different from theirs.
on pages 188 & 189 of the knowledge book, we see the society's (or artist's) conception.
Me personally, I'm waiting for Captain Picard and Number One to contact me and tell me I'm done here and can beam back to the Enterprise!
LOL at euripides. It just goes to show ya, any problems with the paradise or A-geddon will be fixed by the Wt god, the "willy wonka" of the universe. (borrowed term from another poster)
i was at university the other night in the computer lab, cruising this site, well a fellow classmate who has been in my class since sept and we have become friends, walks past, looks at the site i am on and says, "i noticed you are on a jw site, did you know i am a jw, are you one?".
i was shocked.
i turned to him and let loose,.
Well I hope for his sake it does open his mind. Iam a jw and im sick to my stomach with everything i have been finding out. JWS pride themselves in all actualality of being the perfect religion.
Needinfo, welcome to the board. Randys site has a wealth of "info."
FM, The Wt doctrine for the 144k is very gray, as far as "Joe human" realizes he's anointed and all the sudden theres a manifestation of something in his human nature that can continue on to heaven. Which is a direct violation of doctrine. (soul)
Then if said subject falls away, that "thing" that was manifested to continue on to heaven after death is now somehow null and void. (where did it go)
after reading ray franzs 2 books and much information on this site we did a search comparing wt qoutes and had a local elder soon to be circuit ovsr at our house and the funny thing was he was unaware of much of the early wts.he also expressed some doubts when he applied to be a ministerial servant and they sent him back a letter making him an elder.his wife was here and when we brought coc out she jumped up like a person on fire.
the elder asked where else could we go?so there is doubt amoung the elders for sure.
i have a sense of loss however cannot support a self proclaimed prophet that is contrary to scriptural teaching and associated with falsehood and bloodguilt.
Welcome KO38,
Pretty cool peaking at the man behind the green curtain.

For example, they believe that one can choose to become evil in the New System.....but Jehovah will not tolerate it and that person would be snuffed by him in short order. The practice of sinning will not be allowed to be carried on for any length of time, although sinning will be allowed.
This presents yet another problem. There will certainly be death in 'paradise' the Jw can not reconcile this contradictory issue. Their paradise is a confusing place.Clothes or not.
Esspecially with Gumbdongs comments
i must admit that as a jw i never really swallowed this belief maybe because i was so young when i was really a staunch jw.
i would have born-again christians tell me that it was impossible for jesus and michael to be the same person and that jw's invented this doctrine.
fast forward to 2004 while i was reading a book on jesus i noticed that some of the early church fathers thought michael was jesus christ i almost fell out of my chair.
But these are no "OT texts" strictly speaking.
Correct. I believe they are considered 'extant' references.

Nark, there are peices of "silver amulets" kept at the Israel Antiquities Authority found in 1985 south of old city walls Jerusalem. They bear a copy of the priestly benediction similar to Num.6:22-27 in the MT.
I believe these are the oldest OT texts extant. (Hebrew)

Nark,
I would be interested in your comments re: "Silver Amulets" dating to the mid to seventh century B.C. Ingraved with "hebrew texts"
*col 1:16: nwt: because by mean of him all [other] things were created.
