lol. Is that why they annouce at assemblies and conventions that you shouldn't leave your valuables at your seat? My sister had her iPod stolen at a witness party.

It must have been a brother!
by hoser ini was listening to a conversation of jws recently about how trusting they are with each other and how out in "the world" you have to be ever so careful that you don't put down your purse or wallet for a minute otherwise it will be stolen.. i entered the conversation with an experience that one of my close friends had.
(true story) he was in a public place with a wallet with significant amount of cash and bank card, credit card, id, etc.. somehow he lost or misplaced the wallet, panicked of course.
he went to the police, cancelled all his cards and thought it was gone for sure.

Oh wow good catch troubledmind. Wonder if that was symbolic in any way. I feel so bad for this family. At least closure was brought pretty quickly.
Another update. http://www.kwqc.com/story/24943652/rock-island-police-look-for-missing-man

Ever feel like you were faking it as a JW when you weren't?
by punkofnice ini guess this is cognitive dissonance calling loud and clear!.
i remember being proud to be a jw yet at the same time i felt that i was just fooling myself.. i think this also applies to the stupid doctrines of the watchtower(r).......they made sense but at the same time they didn't.. i had secret self loathing for not being 'zealous(tm)' enough but on the other hand i didn't.. seems to me i had a separation of authentic persona from cult persona.. anyone else get this?.

I guess I could fall under that category. I was always extremely embarrassed by 98% of what we believed, but I always thought I must have been weak or had a fear of man.

Oh wow this is a sad update. I kept thinking that he was maybe an elder on his way to an elder's meeting or JC, but what if he was on his way to a JC about himself and this was suicide? Pure speculation, of course, but it is very tragic either way. I hope his family is alright.

Has anyone accidentally stumbled across someone they knew on here?
by SecretHeart11 ini keep hoping and doing searches on the site for people in my area.
so far no one i recognize.
i have a few df'd friends that i lost touch with long before they were out (two who were elders actually when they got the boot) and would love to find out they were on here, but don't know if they plan on coming back.

Shirley - how did you recognise her?
Kaik - Ive read a few posts where I recognise a reference to an obscure place or Congregation, but no names yet. I went through and read that whole thread that was recently bumped about COs/DOs. I didn't recognise any (except when the GB members were mentioned).

Comatose, that's really cool! It would be a great feeling to find someone on here that you know in real life.

One I'm quite sure is apostate as he didn't show any remorse for what he did apparently, and the other I'm not really sure, details are scarce on what happened with him.

The Best Public Talk I Ever Heard (though the speaker was disfellowshipped thereafter)
by exWTslave inthe best public talk i ever heard was one i heard in a jw kingdom hall.
unfortunately, the hurriedly formed jc disfellowshipped him within a couple of weeks for not worshipping the octo(headed) gb.
this happened two years back when i was his fellow-elder.

ExWTSlave, thanks for the reply! I would have loved to see all the faces of the elder body in that hall. I'm sure there was lots of frantic whispering. Lol.
