Yuck!! Sorry! I love it when I see an old witness friend and ask them to get together "for coffee or drinks or something" to catch up and they suggest "yeah, we should do service soon". Can't we be friends outside of that for 5 seconds?

THIS is my worst fear, what keeps my up at night and has my stomach in knots.
I can't even imagine how much turmoil this poor woman must be going through. It makes me want to scoop up my babies and run far, far away from everyone. I worry that the second I am out my MIL & Mother will crank up the indoctrination at every turn.
The dilemma: To stay in and covertly undermine what little they get taught (we barely go, this year we have been to maybe 4 meetings so far, just enough to keep contact with family) or get out alone (without my husband and hope he follows at some point) and deal with ramped up opposition and attempts to convert my kids and lose them??

Dont know where you are NVR2L8 but there are several, several Witness hockey games set up with many elders who play as well as one CO. Must be a local rule.

Thank you EndofMysteries! I don't remember those signs, but I probably blocked them out because I am an avid two-papertowel user!

Stumbled upon this by searching for names (turned out to be the wrong person) but thought I would Bump this horribly sad story. I feel horrible how this man was treated at his murdered child's funeral. I don't know how stories like this couldn't turn even the most devout JWs stomach.

Wow, great quote, I need to show my husband!
Speaking of which, can someone point me to the recent (?) article where it talks about what a shame it is that people can't choose how they believe (in Christendom only of course, as a witness it's a blessing).

Has anyone accidentally stumbled across someone they knew on here?
by SecretHeart11 ini keep hoping and doing searches on the site for people in my area.
so far no one i recognize.
i have a few df'd friends that i lost touch with long before they were out (two who were elders actually when they got the boot) and would love to find out they were on here, but don't know if they plan on coming back.

Thanks everyone for your stories! So glad a lot of you have found old friends on here. I have read snippets of stories about areas that I know, but I don't think I recognise any names (I have a horrible memory).
gingerbread - do they know you're on here or do they still write stories about you?

Has anyone found comfort/encouragement from "worldly songs"?
by awakening ini remember reading a thread when my exit was starting, about inspirational songs.
someone posted a link to the "shins" for a fool.
this was a surprising help to me.

There are so many songs that I find new meaning in depending on the situation in facing in my life. I agree with previous poster, Radiohead is amazing, I get goosebumps listening to them.
The day I made my account here I was really feeling like that about Secret Heart (I like Feist's version). Just wanting to share what I truly felt with my family, especially my husband. The line about the thoughts tire trybig to concealare the very same ones that you're dying to reveal. I was listening and thought "yes! Exactly!" haha.
Wearewatchingyouman - I don't think I ever knew that about Jack Johnson, but I love that last verse and I used to be in love with JJ. I still feel really nostalgic about his songs actually.
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

It must have been a brother!
by hoser ini was listening to a conversation of jws recently about how trusting they are with each other and how out in "the world" you have to be ever so careful that you don't put down your purse or wallet for a minute otherwise it will be stolen.. i entered the conversation with an experience that one of my close friends had.
(true story) he was in a public place with a wallet with significant amount of cash and bank card, credit card, id, etc.. somehow he lost or misplaced the wallet, panicked of course.
he went to the police, cancelled all his cards and thought it was gone for sure.

Hoser - I believe you're technically right. But just having a label doesn't make you trustworthy. In fact it makes you more susceptible to fraud since people seem to forego common sense when dealing with "fellow Christians". I knew Witnesses who found a gift certificate to a local cafe and thought it was perfect for their coffee breaks while doing their 30-hour Aux Pioneer. Still waiting for that to make it into the Yearbook, lol. I've had non-Witnesses be kind to me more often than my Witness friends who had to "get their time in" or "get home and prepare for the meeting".
Ruderedhead - wow, seriously? No one stopped her? I would be so mad!
