  towards the end of last year, the witnesses in scotland had their own assembly hall opened in the town of livingston, near edinburgh the capital.. this was achieved no doubt by blood, sweat, and tears by many over a very long period - as well as by donations of witnesses from all over scotland and its islands, not forgetting the levy per publisher imposed on all the congregations in the guise of "donations"!.

  was the org grateful for the sacrifices which were made to bring a great "shout of praise" to whoever?

  The link you provided is excellent.

  If the rank-and-file were to become aware of how big the surplus is, donations would noticeably dry up.

  When I was in 'the truth' (sic) it would've certainly stopped me from contributing for the forseeable future.

  In the 4 years recorded in the link, the Income is a total of £634,026.

  The Expenditure is £29,279.

  Assuming a bank balance of NIL at the start of these 4 years gives a healthy profit of £604,747.

  Shame on them.

  Come on Charities Commission. DO SOMETHING.

  I used to love to read the prophecies of Kings of North/South and speculate about identities.

  I concluded that the King of the North would turn out to be the UN. I came to this conclusion because it appeared that the unfulfilled part of the prophecy appeared to show that both Kings would have a common interest in ridding the earth of true worshippers, rather than continuing to attack each other.

  According to the Revelation book, the UN is clearly going to play a huge role in banning religion worldwide.

  Recently I realised that I wasn't in 'the Truth', that there is no 'Truth'.

  Now, I'm in the process of untangling all of the indoctrination of 22 years.

  Therefore, I currently understand NOTHING.

  As a JW, world events never used to give me anxiety, because I 100% believed it would all be ok in the end.

  Now, I have no idea what the future holds, which is a sad part about realising TTATT.

  Welcome FF,

  I'm new here too, and do more lurking than posting.

  I've just stood down as a MS and abruptly stopped attending meetings, but my wife is still in 100%. My wife is also 100% gutted and our (previously happy) marriage is now in jeopardy.

  I was baptised in 1991. I realised it wasn't the truth about 4 months ago and chose to make a quick exit.

  In hindsight, I should've planned it better. Or rather, I should have simply had a plan in the first place. Instead, I just impatiently blurted out what I had learned when the circumstances allowed it. Bad idea.

  Since then, I have read lots of excellent advice on this forum.

  This forum has helped me to be reassured that it's not me that's unbalanced.

  From your posts, it appears that you also appreciate the help of forum members too.

  Take your time. Keep planning ahead. Go at your own pace. Follow your conscience.

  District Assembly arrangements 2014.

  my jw mother drives me nuts.

  she lives in quite a cut-off part of the uk and this year, is expected to travel to hq (rugbyfans), aka twickenham.

  she's great to make the trip, it's like a spiritual holiday for her.. i said i thought it ridiculous and unreasonable for the gb to expect people to travel that far and pay for accommodation near london.

  According to jw.org the convention dates are 22-24th August.

  So that's in the school holidays, and on a bank holiday weekend.

  All of that makes it a very expensive time to find accommodation in central London.

  Well done governing body, always putting the rank & file first.

  i believe it is mostly guilt.

  many witnesses pioneer or "reach out" in the religion because they feel guilty.. they may feel they aren't doing enough.

  they may have secretly "sinned" against rules imposed by the organization.

  Many who have been in for decades don't want to leave because they've invested so much time/energy/family to give in now.

  They're waiting for a bus that's never going to come.

  But they daren't start walking, because they're constanly told the bus is "just around the corner".

  Many must stay in the religion because they remain convinced that it is 'the truth'.

  I stayed in for 22 years because I really believed it.

  If something didn't seem right, I "left it in Jehovah's hands", and got on with my life of faithful service.

  i came across this nugget in the may 2014 issue:.

  "are you moving ahead with jehovah's organization".

  ....at one time, the anointed remnant were like the little one, but their number grew as other spiritual israelites were brought into gods organization.

  In my opinion, it doesn't matter how arrogant the FDS are, they realise that changing the understanding of the 144,000 from literal to symbolic, would be too much for many to accept, without losing a lot of credibility.

  Their answer seems to be... don't write about the memorial partaker increase.

  Many rank & file either won't notice, or they won't see the increase as that significant.
