so the rc really sucked, but i made it through.

It's not called a doomsday cult for no reason.Everyday is effing doomsday to them.

People that believe every new day could potentially be the beginning of the "great trib" are basically scared $hitless.

The GB have basically said "the world is going to end and we are the only ones with lifeboats, if you want to be allowed on the lifeboat do as we say".

No wonder your wife is scared, we all were once.

The GB have made a very profitable business employing the gratuitous use of scare tactics,

and people who are scared are incapable of thinking rationally.

So how can I put this...Get a grip man.

One thing the borg is good at is making a bloody catastophe out of everything. It is emotional blackmail, don't fall for it.

Reality check: not being "strong in the truth" is not, I repeat not, the end of the world.

If others in your household are hysterical because the GB are claiming the sky is falling

all the more reason for there to be one level head in da house.

Does WT use intellectual intimidation in publications?

when i first learned ttatt, i read loads all at once and tried to absorb everything.

then i slowed down evaluated my priorities and took one step at time.

now my kids know ttatt and i have set some goals in life, i am ready to take on my next project in my deprogramming.. intellectual intimidation.

I think they are much more at home with emotional and spiritual intimidation.

Their psuedo intellectualism does'nt stand up to any serious scrutiny, they just assert things very confidently.

They have holes in their logic you could drive a truck through. That's why they tend to concentrate on emotional blackmail and sanctimonious rhetoric.

for me, that happy day was in morro bay, calif. it was the fall, oct 1958 or 9. gorgeous weather.

the sun was shining and the wind was coming off of the ocean.. at that time, morro bay was unassigned territory.. talesin on another thread was talking about a lovely day she had, going with her grandfather, talking with a mr languages.

The day I met an apostate at her door and she calmly and intelligently explained why she left.

Her reasons were:

hypocrisy/lack of love

unreasonable restrictions and demands

unfulfilled prophecy/outrageous unverifiable claims by the society over the years

She also told me very earnestly "you should get out as soon as you can, you will be much happier if you do",(at that time I did'nt realise I was unhappy).

I look back now and can see how her words started a cascade of doubting in my mind, that I wish I could thank her for now.

Cognitive Dissonance in a Relationship

it's a familiar feeling, not unlike the experience we might have within organised religion.. .

i never really experienced this within org as i exited when i was a teenager.

the problems and incongruencies that became apparent during that time seemed simply a result of developing a fully-functioning brain.

I find the few "friends" I still see from the borg, I find I'm walking on eggshells constantly.

I notice how sensitive and prickly they are and wonder "was I like that before I woke up?"

They turn every conversation into an opportunity to brag about some FS experience or how busy they are. They talk at me not to me.

They are walled off emotionally and dishonest intellectually- fake, in other words.

They seem quite incapable of normal interaction. The husband is desperate to be app as an elder but is getting stonewalled by the BOE. I feel sorry for him as he doesnt get why he keeps getting passed over every CO visit.

I hope they will wake up one day, but I cannot push too hard as I don't want to tip them off to my own awakening.

I hate the situation and dislike myself having to be intellectually dishonest around them, but the consequences of opening up would be too great.

Reminds me of the quote from Dr Suess

A Thread for Cyclists - Where Do you Ride?

i took up cycing a couple of months ago just to get fitter and lose a bit of excess weight.. i bought a second-hand hybrid bike (weighs only slightly less than a truck) and fitted road tyres.

four or five times a week i will go for a ride after work for an hour or so.

i am fortunate enough to live in rural north england surrounded by limitless quiet roads.

@GreatTeacher- Yes you can go right up to the lighthouse and walk all the way round it but you cannot go inside unfortunately.

I live on a beautiful windswept rugged coastline, I am very lucky.

Jws are not supposed to be NATIONALISTIC....right?

so, 'we' as jws are not supposed to be nationalistic or promote individual countries or cultures over another....isn't that correct?.

so, why do witnesses love to have "international" conventions where we see delegates all proudly wearing the stereotyped clothing of their native lands?.

arent witnesses supposed to be part of gods nation, separate from the world, speaking the "pure language"?.

The other thing is, if you consistently turned up at the regular meeting dressed in your national garb, you would most likely get counseled about it.

Yes, this is a good example of the many inconsistencies and contradictions of their message.

These large international conventions they love to ham it up on the "out of every nation" BS

aren't they both just differen't variations of the same lie?

the only difference is the scale on which their impact on humanity is measured.

that, and the fact that the bible can exist without the wt, but not vice versa.. but at the end of the day, what's the difference between claiming to be the inspired word of god, or the one true religion?

Drama: Not ONE word has failed! Regional Convention 2014

looks like the borg spent all it's money on hd panels, gigabit internet connections and ipads cause this is by far the lamest and most stupid drama ever in the history of the org!.

apart from the worse than porn-without-the-porn acting and dialogue, the special effects consist of square painted panels and a crappy blue screen.

also the lighting looks like it was made using flashlights.. even the die hards we're laughing at it and mentioned how silly it looked.. i envy all of those that aren't attending this "historic 100-years-since-christ's-reign" convention.. .
