  JW grandma, unbelieving grandpa and DF'd daughter - babysitting rules

  the grandma just got some instructions from one of the elders on how to handle babysitting her infant grandchild.

  when the daughter brings the baby to the house, she should hand it to the grandpa.

  (that's ok because grandpa has never been baptized).

  "Daughter needs to suck it up and be a mother. Let Grandpa come and visit the baby. She can find another caretaker for the baby. Oh, and where are the inlaws?"

  Since daughter's husband is also DF'd, the in-laws will have nothing to do with him. They were both disfellowshipped for living together, but now they are legally married (at least 5 years). Seems like 1 Corinthians 5:11 says not to eat with someone who IS a fornicator, not someone who used to be a fornicator. Anyway, what right does the WT have to judge fornicators when they fornicated themselves with the UN for 10 years?

  Thanks for all your responses. I'm just kind of bummed out about, not only this incident, but the one I posted this morning about the friends who won't let their DF'd daughter give them a 50th anniversary party. It also bothers me that at one time I would have gone along with all this BS.

  clyde and i recently got an invitation to a golden anniversary given by the daughter of a couple that i helped bring into the "truth.

  " i was a little surprised because the daughter is df'd and so is her brother, but i thought, "good, i'll go to this!

  well just this week i got a call from one of my best friends who is the sister-in-law of this couple.

  In this case it is the father who is the over-zealous dub, but apparently his wife is going along with it. I'm a little disappointed in the sister-in-law too. If it had been me, I would have said, "Too bad you can't have an anniversary party." Now there's going to be party with neither of the children attending.

  Clyde and I recently got an invitation to a golden anniversary given by the daughter of a couple that I helped bring into the "truth." I was a little surprised because the daughter is DF'd and so is her brother, but I thought, "Good, I'll go to this!"

  Well just this week I got a call from one of my best friends who is the sister-in-law of this couple. She and her husband seldom go to meetings, but they are friendly with everybody. She said that the party was cancelled because her brother-in-law said he would have to walk out of the house if the daughter showed up. My friend decided to have the golden anniversary party at her house instead. I was floored! I didn't know what to say, so I said I would change it on my calendar, but didn't say we'd be there. Clyde has already stated he will not attend, but I know there will be hard feelings as both couples have a special place in their hearts for us and we for them.

  This is the second incident just this week that I know about involving the (mis)treatment of disfellowshipped relatives. I know that book about "Keeping Yourselves in God's Love" has a lot to do with it--although it was only a reminder from previous directives. I think of how the Bible says to "honor your father and your mother." The daughter was trying to honor them by giving them a party. What a real slap in the face!

  BTW, the reason the daughter was DF'd was because her husband was living with another woman. She divorced him and remarried, but failed to give the elders proof. That's a whole different subject.

  "The DF'd daughter needs to suck it up and find a real babysitter to protect her baby from the Borg."

  D'd daughter gets along very well with her dad and she wants him to be part of her baby's life. Sometimes grandpa just stays with the baby while grandma goes off in service. But I can see how this could more difficult as baby gets older--daughter might have to insist that only grandpa stay with the child and get another sitter for the rest of the time.

  And the WT states that we "build strong families"?

  "I agree that if possible the grandma should not be seeing the grandbaby... but we don't know the situation. If this is a single mother who has to work and can't afford a babysitter and has no one else who will sit for her... we just don't know the situation enough to make that call."

  The DF'd daughter has been married at least five years, but she "hasn't taken steps to get reinstated" (and doesn't want to). Grandma's heart strings are being broken on this one. But it's her own fault. She even asked the circuit overseer a few weeks ago about how to handle things when her husband brought the DF'd children to the house. He said just be discreet. Wow! But Grandma has a habit of talking too much, and she let it out to one of her friends, who informed the elder's wife, who went to her husband. The elders also found out that the daughter and her df'd husband met grandma and grandpa for dinner while they were on vacation. I was hoping that these events might wake grandma up. But yesterday she pulled out the "Keep Yourselves in God's Love" book and asked grandpa to read the part about how to Treat (mistreat) disfellowshipped relatives not living at home.

  Oh my...I wonder where this marriage is heading.

(That's OK because Grandpa has never been baptized). Grandpa can then take the infant to grandma, but grandma is to have no conversation with her daughter. He is going ballistic over this and I can't blame him.

  The grandpa has been going to meetings for years, and the elders would love to see him get baptized so they can control him. That will never happen.

  a "brother'' from my cong was injured after he crossed the street without looking,...he was avoiding a recently df'd "brother".... the df'd bro is one of my best friends.

  the elders just announced that bro so & so was in an accident but no details.

  the df'd bro told me he tried to help as he was the only person who knew the injured bro,...to his shock he was shunned by the bro(injured)....he could'nt even tell him whether he was ok or not..... african gb member.

  I don't know about you guys, but I know some JW's, including some relatives, who are fanatic enough to refuse help from a DF'd person--even if injured. I believe I was almost that fanatical at one time.

  1975 and their denial later on that they ever made any predictions concerning that date. Didn't leave till many years later as I still believed in the 70 or 80 year generation thing. Then I noticed how they were always glorifying themselves.
