Did you know that until 1969 the WTS taught that the great tribulation started in 1914 and temporarily was stopped by God in 1918 to start up again in the near future?
Isn't that what Harold Camping was saying...that the tribulation began in 1994 and was temporarily interrupted and that it would start up again on May 21, 2011?

Seems like an appropriate article after the May 21 disappointment. I wonder how Harold Camping got his date for Noah's flood? The Watchtower says the flood was in 2370 B.C.E. while Camping says it was more like 4990.

This is how I remember the pre-1975 era. Yes, there were a lot of talks at the meetings about 1975, a lot of talk among the witnesses to one another, but, unlike Camping, we never talked about 1975 when we were in field service unless we found someone who was interested. Even prior to the 1975 hoopla, we were always told to put the emphasis of our message on the wonderful new world that was right around the corner instead of destruction of Armageddon. Tell 'em about Armageddon later. That may be another reason why the media didn't pick up on it.
I recently watched a doomsday religion documentary on TV that never even mentioned Jehovah's Witnesses but plenty of other groups.

Most Overblown Examples Used at Assemblies
by What Now? inat a recent assembly, there was a talk highlighting the dangers of higher education.
the brother used an example of a young girl who went to university, began going to bars, and ended up getting drugged and gang raped - as if this happens to every young jw who chooses to get higher education.. .
what ridiculous examples have you heard used at meetings or assemblies?.

At our assemblies they were always having experiences of teenagers who had resisted Satan's temptations to engage in worldly pursuits, etc., and how happy they were to be in Jehovah's service. Clyde and I would often look at each other and ask, "Wonder where they will be in two or three years. Will they still be around?" I bet that 4 out of 5 of them were either disfellowshipped or just disappeared--and often within a year.
Oh - an elder in our congregation a few years ago told about how he worked for this little printing company and often had an opportunity to work overtime on Saturdays but resisted the temptation so he could go in field service. What he didn't tell them was, he was actually VP of a large printing company, made 3 or 4 times as much as the workers, had his home and cars paid for, and was on salary rather than hourly, so it didn't matter if he worked extra hours or not.

2011 Yearbook - "Tracing All Things with Accuracy"
by pirata in2011 yearbook - "tracing all things with accuracy", p.9-13.
jesus said that the faithful slave would be discreet in giving the domestics "their food at the proper time.
" christ thus indicated that those who dispense this "food" would be conscientious, prudent, and discerning in providing spiritual food for the household of faith.-matt.

We've discussed before how the WT has misquoted sources regarding the date of Jerusalem's destruction as well as regarding the whether Jesus died on a cross or torture stake.

My son's in-laws attended a predominantly black congregation in South Carolina for awhile (mid-90's) and were shocked at what they called "reverse discrimination." They couldn't get close to anybody. The father-in-law invited one of the elders to his home for dinner, and the elder said "my wife can cook." There were other examples. They don't miss the congregation at all. I guess discrimination can work both ways.

Pioneers studying with people in the nursing homes.

About twenty years ago I spent a few hours a week volunteering in a nursing home. I never thought about having a study and counting my time even though I was a witness in good standing at the time. I visited with them, helped them write letters, occasionally helped with toileting, and also pushed their wheelchairs down the hall to the cafeteria for lunch. In retrospect, I could have been a pioneer!
