I remember all that. Let me add--we can do an hour of field service (perhaps some return visits) before the book study since we are all dressed up anyway. Our book study used to be from 8 to 9 pm so we could easily fit in some time between getting home from work and the meeting.

It Was Never Enough
by Bangalore infound this on another site a few years back.. .
it was never enough.. i remember the first time as a kid i comprehended that i could never do enough for the organization.. a circuit overseer was giving a talk and said,:.
sunday is meeting, and since you are dressed up you might as well do some field service after the meeting.. monday you should spend an hour or so in the evening preparing for the book study on tuesday.. tuesday is book study.. wednesday should be time for your family study, personal study, or preparation for all three.

6/15 WT - WT Society can Run it's Business - but JW's Can't Have their Own
by flipper inin the typical do as we say , not as we do type mentality - the wt society puts forth in this current wt study article ( jw's only wt ) - that it's not " advisable " or " reasonable " for jehovah's witnesses to seek entering their own business ventures , or further themselves by getting a college education, or even have a career - due to the imminent coming of the alleged " end of the system " or alleged " paradise " .
the guilt and control used here is ridiculous.
in the article titled , " why put jehovah's service first ?

Maybe next there will be an article about not working at any job.
" Do you think it would have been reasonable for Noah and his family to focus their efforts on FINDING A JOB , getting ahead among their contemporaries....Knowing what lay ahead, they avoided such DISTRACTIONS . "
I bet the government took care of Noah and his family.

Are you approved to report (from the km for july)
by therevealer inyes indeedy.
if you are fortunate enough to be approved you can report (as in be allowed to report) 15-minute increments.
i knew that older ones, for example, were encouraged to report even the smallest amount of service and the cong.

I was once told by the elders that I was approved to report 15 minutes - after I told them how taking care of my sick mother was taking up all my time and that's why I was not reporting time in field service.

Has anyone ever used a non-NWT (New World Translation) bible at meetings / study?
by biometrics inabout 1 year ago (before i faded), i purchased an old king james bible from ebay and started using it in the meetings and when a brother came over to study with me.. a common reaction of fellow jws was to stare at the bible, then say "what type of bible is that?
", then they'd sometimes ask to look at it, and flip to john 1:1. when they saw what it said, they'd treat it like it was apostate material, even though a few decades earler it was the same bible jws used.. i strongly encourage any lurkers/faders to use another bible at the meetings and see what type of reactions you get.. .

Back when we had circuit assemblies at high schools, we had a book stand where we could buy various translations of the Bible--Moffats, The Bible in Living English, Douay, etc. Almost all the Bibles I have on my bookshelf were purchased at circuit assemblies--but that was back in the 60's, maybe early 70's. When I started going in field service in 1956, we didn't even have a complete New World Translation so we usually used the American Standard Version (sometimes King James). We liked the American Standard because it used the name "Jehovah" in the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures).

MsGrowingGirl20 is no longer one of......
by MsGrowingGirl20 ini am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses(well mentally that is)---however i am a christian...i recently started reading different translations from www.biblegateway.com...jesus is so different to how the jw's teach....and god...i mean, i still am learning and confused about certain things but i am in love with them.... it's obvious that the jw's are not an organization of god.i don't think god is working through an organization but through individuals...however i am going to speak to an elder tomorrow about my issues---all of them---and i'm going to tell him everything--what i've been reading, where i got it from---everything!!
i'm not hiding anything!
i have done no wrong....i just want to be a true christian and if they disfellowship me for seeking answers then this is not where i need to be.

I think the majority of witnesses will assume you are being DF'd for immorality. That's what I used to think. Just thought I'd mention that in case it makes a difference.

I think the WT writer must have taken that story from one of the older publications. In the 50's I remember hearing an experience like that at one of our circuit assemblies, and I thought it was just wonderful that the husband FINALLY came into the truth due to the long-suffering of his wife. It seems like society in general back then didn't take spousal abuse as seriouslly as we do now. I think many women didn't have as many options as they do today. It wouldn't have been as easy to leave an abusive husband as it is now. Today there are support groups for victims of domestic violence. Also women today tend to be better educated and can function on their own without have to remain in an abusive situation.
My own daughter was a victim of spousal abuse and ended up divorcing her JW husband. This was about 11 years ago. She showed the elders her bruises, and they actually supported her in her decision to leave her husband.

One of the sisters in our congregation underlined her WT while in the bathroom. She told me all she needed to do was underline the first and last sentence of each paragraph.

One of the sisters in a neighboring congregation happened to mention that she watched the movie, "The King's Speech" (R rated) while she was out to lunch with another sister. The other sister promptly called one of the elders and they called her in. Even though she "repented", she can't give a talk in the ministry school or pioneer for awhile. I wonder what they would have done if she had argued with them.
I watched the movie myself and didn't see anything wrong with it, even though I'm normally quite picky about the morality in the movies I watch.
It was about King George VI's ascension to the throne.
