The question about over population of the earth was asked many years ago. The answer was that eventually procreation would stop when the earth was comfortably filled. I can remember at witness weddings, during the vows the speaker would use the words "forever, or until the divine termination of the marital arrangement." Does anyone else remember?

You cannot live forever in paradise on earth
by Gopher inthe watchtower society has, for about seven decades, been attracting new volunteer workers for its field ministry with the promise of life forever on a paradise earth.
even the titles of its main study books since 1968 bear the promise: the truth that leads to eternal life, you can live forever in paradise on earth, and knowledge that leads to everlasting life.
how logical is this hope that leads people to entrust the watchtower with their time, energy and worldly possessions?

"We are the only religion on earth that can claim to be unhypocritical."
by Bonnie_Clyde inthose are the exact words of the po's wife today at the wt study.
i wrote them down as she said them.
the next comment by one of the servants was, "if we accept the authority of the faithful and discreet slave, we cannot go wrong.

Here is a quote from the WTBT$: "Respond to the Faithful Slave just as you would to the voice of God." -
Honesty - where is that quote from?

Your first talk at the Theorcatic Ministry School, do you remember it?
by JH ini do, i had to read ezekiel 9: (1-11)
and he proceeded to call out in my ears with a loud voice, saying: have those giving their attention to the city come near, each one with his weapon in his hand for bringing ruin!
there were six men coming from the direction of the upper gate that faces to the north, each one with his weapon for smashing in his hand; and there was one man in among them clothed with linen, with a secretarys inkhorn at his hips, and they proceeded to come in and stand beside the copper altar.

I don't remember what my first talk was about but I remember when it was. It toward the end of January 1959, and I was one of the first females who ever gave a talk in the ministry school. Up until that year only men were allowed to give talks.

I believe Ray Franz said that it was himself who wrote the 1976 article about "Sacred Service" being our entire life course including taking care of our families, visit the sick, etc.. It was Fred Franz who changed back to "Sacred Service" applying only to activities directly related to the WT such as door to door service, building kingdom halls, Bethel service, etc. That is so sad!

A kindler, gentler, WTB&TS?
by FaithfulDoubter inok, i've looked 3 times now through the new study book: what the bible really teaches and i can't find 1 depection of armageddon in it.
(if i'm wrong, someone please point it out!
) is this the beginning of the society trying to create a more loving image?

Anybody watch the History Channel about "Armageddon." It was quite lengthy about different religions that believed over the years even in the fourth century that current events proved Armageddon was near. It moved forward to the 19th century, quite a bit was said about William Miller and his 1843 date, then the Seventh Day Adventists, Koresh, and others. Not a word about Jehovah's Witnesses. Must be we don't mention it much to the people on the outside, although I've heard witnesses say we are the only ones preaching Armageddon.

What is the best JW book please?
by Clam inhi everyone.. i'm keen to read more books about jw's.
i've so far only read crisis of conscience but now have the appetite.i'd be more interested in the background of the organisation and what kind of people russell and rutherford were etc, but i'd also like to read any "apostate" exposes, especially ex elders.
thanks in advance.

Has anybody mentioned "Apocalypse Delayed" by James Penton. He went into quite a bit of the history. It is written from the perspective of someone who is not a witness so sometimes he gets more detailed than necessary, but I found it extremelly interesting.

You mentioned your husband was at the meeting and he even chimed in. Will he continue going to meetings or is he stopping too?

Assembly Dissembling
by zack injust a thought or two from riche's assembly.
there was a talk about "loyalty to god"-- they numbered off things that were paramount displays of loyalty.
number 4 was giving money to the worldwide work--- no strings attached.. the other things were giving your talks at the ministry school--- going to all the meetings, being obedient to the elders!

I wonder about the part of giving money to the worldwide work with no strings attached. Do you suppose it was to reprimand anyone who tried to donate money for disaster relief--like Hurricane Katrina?

I am so sorry about the loss of your sister. I pray that you will find the strength to continue, and you will. I remember reading one of your posts a few months ago. Can't remember the details now, but I felt then that I would like to know you better.
