Why Aren't Jehovah's Witnesses Allowed To Freely Express Themselves?
by minimus init's a simple fact.
jw's cannot freely express themselves.
they can't freely tell another about a doubt or a question that they might have for fear they could be exposed to the elders.

Women and abusive relationships...I don't understand?
by obiwan inwhy do you stay in an abusive relationship?
do you feel that it's your responsibility to change him?
do you feel you "owe" him.

I too do not understand why someone would stay in an abusive relationship. I vowed at 14 that I would NEVER let a man put his hands on me. My father didn't even spank me so why would I let some man do it. When I was 14 my cousin was killed by her boyfriend. He beat and kicked her so bad that brain fluid was coming out of her ears. I saw first hand her coming over with shades on and bruises and couldn't understand why she stayed. A few years ago my aunt was beaten and almost killed by her boyfriend. She was missing for two days and we thought she was dead. The neighbors saw her boyfriend carrying her out in a bloody sheet. Luckily a tip led the police to a hotel room where he had her. The injuries she had were very severe. They locked him up but I wonder if he weren't put in jail, would she have gone back? He was abusive to her before this and she always went back. Very scary!

I once went to a baby shower for a sister and planned on having a good time. There were only sisters there and some brought their children. The shower was held at a community center clubhouse. There was a door that went out to the pool. I was sitting close to the door and could hear a commotion going on outside, a man was yelling. I went to look and two sisters children were outside by the pool. He told them they weren't supposed to be out there. I told the two girls to come inside and I went over to the mothers who were so deep in conversation that they didn't even know they were missing. I told them (nicely) that I found them outside by the pool and the caretaker was very upset and was yelling at them. I received no thank you's from either sister (I knew for a fact one of the girls couldn't swim) but instead I could see them talking and looking my way as if they were upset with me. When the shower was just about over I went outside and told my Mom and some other sisters what happened. I could feel my blood begin to boil as I was just looking after the girls. I decided to go inside and ask the sisters what the problem was and why they were treating me this way. One of the sisters saw me enter the room and ran out. (coward) the other one was talking to another sister. I approached her and said sorry to interrupt but I would like to speak with you before you leave. She ignored me. After she finished talking with the sister, I saw her heading for the door and I ran to catch up with her. I said I wanted to talk to you before you left. She told me she didn't have time and she had to go. I told her it was important and she was so rude and snotty with me that I was close to slapping her face. My Mom noticed when I had left and came running inside to get me (she knows my temper ). Well, the sister said she didn't need me looking after her kids she knew what she was doing. ( Wow talk about adding fuel to the fire) I was really angry then. So much for looking out for one another and that thing called brotherly love. Good thing my Mom and some other sisters showed up or It may have been a drag down dirty fight. You can imagine the gossip at the hall the next day. No one came and counseled me. I heard a comment like, that is what happens when Elders aren't around. So, OK guys...give me your experience. I know you have one.
Oh ... The other sister called me and acted like nothing was wrong. I asked her if she forgot what happened yesterday. After a long discussion she thanked me for looking out for her daughter and apologized. The other sister well we both kept our distance after that. I ran into her once since I left the borg and she runs in the other direction.

Apparently Pinatas are ' no big deal'. What's next? Birthdays?
by xjw_b12 ini always thought the society frowned upon the use of pinatas, if not discouraging the use of them all together.
apparently the wts has decided to avoid insulting the brothers in mexico.

Opinions on drugs?
by digderidoo inwhile i was in the 'truth' i and a few of my peers were curious about the effects of certain drugs.
as a teenager during the rave scene of the late 80's early 90's many of the 'worldly' kids were doing ecstasy, smoking weed and becoming heavily involved in the drugs scene.. when i left the 'truth', this curiosity got the better of me and i started smoking weed and eventually tried ecstasy, speed and lsd.. while all drugs can be abused (and i have abused some) i am of the opinion that the use of drugs can be a good experience, if used moderately.. i was wondering whether others have experienced drugs since leaving the truth, i am interested to find out what opinions people have on them good or bad.. i also wondered whether people feel that cannabis should be legalised.
my opinion is that people in power shouldn't tell me what i can and can't do with my own body.

Hi Dig,
I grew up with my dad smoking weed like people smoke cigarettes. My dad's brain is pretty fried now, has lots of memory loss from early on. My personal experience with people I know who used drugs or is now using is never a positive thing. My opinion and please note, it is just that...my opinion, is to: Just say no to drugs!

by Dimples in....you read in the paper that one of the jw's you knew died and you are either disfellowshipped or disassociated?.
do you mourn all alone for them, do you send a card to the family anonymously, or do you just leave things alone?
i feel bad and wish i could do something but then i have to realize that i didn't shun them, they chose to shun me.
