Your reason for remaining anonymous on the boards?
by starfish422 injust wondering why you choose not to use too many identifying facts about yourself on the boards?
is it to protect yourself, or others?.
for me, i have nothing to lose where the dubs are concerned, and initially my profile was pretty extensive.

Reformers repeat mistake....
by mizpah ini'm reading a fascinating book, god's best seller, by brian moynahan.
in it he documents how a few men like wycliff and tyndale risked their lives to make the bible available to the common people.
the catholic church violently opposed these efforts and persecuted all who were involved in the translating, publishing and distributing the scriptures.

Autocratic religion stifles any freedom of thought and expression. When ppl feel suffocated in an autocratic system and see inconsistencies in doctrine, they have to dissent and break away. If the religious system allowed more latitude, there would be no reason to dissent.
Therefore, "It is autocratic religion that makes "apostasy" necessary."

If your parents left everything to Watchtower, what could you legally do ?
by run dont walk in.
i'm sure this must happen, brother faithful and sister subjection, spend their whole life in jw land, have an average/good living, have three kids, both pass on, leave it all (or most) to the watchtower, would you have a case or any legal grounds in getting your money back.. definitely a case for johnny cochrane.. i'm a little worried my parents might do something this stupid.. any experiences or ideas .................

It's too late when they are dead.
Be a genuinely wonderful son. And hope.
Although it would be incredibly annoying that the WT would get the fortune, it's their decision. (Bear in mind that attitudes of the survivor change when one spouse dies.) Just make sure you and your siblings get the sentimental stuff.

What JW belief/idea do you disagree with the most ???
by run dont walk inis there a particular belief/doctrine that really burns you up and makes you wonder how people could believe this, and did you as a loyal jw at one time believe in it (your most hated belief), what made you change your mind ???.
for me, i always enjoy reading the history of the watchtower (1879-1974), and how things constantly change from year to year.
the sodom and gomorrah question is hilarious .

Where do I start? There are so many now.
The 1914 doctrine is the basis for a whole load of stuff. Once that's found to be false, it's clear that the 1919 divine appointment teaching is hooey. If they haven't been divinely appointed, they haven't any more extra-special insights into the scriptures than the rest of humanity, so it's open season on the rest of their doctrines.

Playing The Hand You Are Dealt
by jst2laws inmy wife and i were df'd about six months ago as apostates after our combined 88 years in the organization (i love borrowing wt methods of making figures impressive).
if it were not for the wt perhaps i would have gone to college as i had planned instead of to bethel for six years.
perhaps i would have started my business a decade earlier in life rather than spend ten years in the 'fulltime preaching work'.

"When we as individuals took on the beliefs of the WTBTS wether as a young adult getting baptized into it or an adult having had a "bible study" we in effect took on a life without death. Our own mortality went into - we hoped and prayed - permanent remmision. Now having learnt to see the TRUTH about the JW teachings those of us who have left have taken on a terminal life. A difficult thing to explain to someone who never really believed. Coming to terms with that after maybe many years is very very hard."
I happen to know a few who have been stalwart members for many many decades, who came into the troof believing they would never die 'in this system', finding it tough coming to terms with the probability that they *will* die in the present world. Whether you are 'in' or 'out', it's disturbing to be faced with the inevitability of your own mortality.
Thanks for the welcome Just2Laws. I've seen you on ChannelC and enjoyed reading some of your posts .

I agree with you, Just2laws.
It's one thing to think we could've done some stuff differently - everyone must have those feelings - but once the initial emotional upheaval has gone, it's destructive to hang onto regret and bitterness.
Life is one long learning curve. The important thing is to learn and move on.

He's been a real brick.
Although I suspect he has some standard letters adapted to our standard questions (e.g. misgivings about leaving the org, wondering about the existence of God, the supposed 2 class Christianity, whatever), it's very kind of him to take the time to reply to us at all, given his frailties (he had a stroke a couple of years ago - no paralysis, but it left him with low energy), and he does generally personalize them.
He's a good man.
