  did anyone see the recent questions from readers that cautions against about using gift registries for you wedding?

  no joke.

  sept 1, 2003.whether a couple who are getting married wish to use a gift registry is a matter for personal decision.

  Gift-giving gives attention to the individual, which detracts from God. Putting up a gift registry is like giving Jehovah's people a shopping list; it is disgraceful before the Lord, and turns the Kingdom Hall into a den of sin (Ren. 23:10) Can you imagine Jesus or Paul signing up at the local department store for china and toasters ? Certainly not! Loving christians should not use a joyful occasion like marriage for selfish material gain, instead all the glory should go to Jehovah.

  Instead of greedily opting for a "gimme" list, newly married couples should request that donations be made to the Society. For the bible says, "...truly we know, their blessings will be reaped ten thousand fold!!" (Stmp. 10:14)

  What's the most ridiculous thing you were ever counselled on?

  one of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.

  they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.

  i was once counselled for joking around too much.

  Opinions on drugs?

  while i was in the 'truth' i and a few of my peers were curious about the effects of certain drugs.

  as a teenager during the rave scene of the late 80's early 90's many of the 'worldly' kids were doing ecstasy, smoking weed and becoming heavily involved in the drugs scene.. when i left the 'truth', this curiosity got the better of me and i started smoking weed and eventually tried ecstasy, speed and lsd.. while all drugs can be abused (and i have abused some) i am of the opinion that the use of drugs can be a good experience, if used moderately.. i was wondering whether others have experienced drugs since leaving the truth, i am interested to find out what opinions people have on them good or bad.. i also wondered whether people feel that cannabis should be legalised.

  my opinion is that people in power shouldn't tell me what i can and can't do with my own body.

  I have mixed feelings about legalizing pot, because I really, really LOVE it. I started using again about one year ago, and wish I hadn't. I'm asthmatic and it makes me wheeze and cough, but I can't seem to stop once I start. I'm running out and haven't had any for a few days, and I've been scrubbing floors and vacuuming like crazy. You know you really have a problem when your drug dealer is "shunning" you, because you're such an irritating pothead.

  Alcohol, Coccaine, XTC, and speed didn't really appeal to me. I could take it or leave it. I have used Vicodin for back pain, but never felt that I needed it. I support compassionate use of marijuana, at the same time I'm afraid that if it were legal I would smoke it constantly. I wish i had some now.

  My sister and I were counseled by the elders for getting too giggly during a book study.

  The elder leading the study on the Family Book had previously talked about using "proper names" for genitalia, and he even said not to use nicknames that referred to bells when talking about boys.

  He was bald, and his shiny head looked like a penis, so my sister and I started calling him Brother Dingdong or Dingaling behind his back. One look at that gleaming head during a meeting, and we would start with the puerile penis jokes and start poking each other and snickering.

  I Am Changing The Word "Worldly" To Normal....

  instead of making the difference known that anyone not a jehovah's witness is "worldly", i think we should simply refer to them as "normal".

  Faithful & Discreet Slave - NEW LIGHT

  ok........has anybody been hearing rumors about new light on the faithful and discreet slave teaching?

  i recently talked to one of my ex-bethel buddies and he said that an adjustment has been in the works for awhile now and that the new light for the fds will be that they will receive their appointment before the great tribulation and that they didn't receive it at 1918-19 as previously taught.

  their works (global preaching work, worldwide growth, etc) up until the point of the great tribulation will show that they have been faithful and discreet in caring for the lord's interests and worthy of "official" appointment before the end comes.

  conversely, i really would like to know what the younger ones here think are the must -hear songs for every generation.

  without my daughters in my life, i don't get to hear the better offerings of the new artists.

  What Makes A Person A Potential "Apostate"?

  the more i think about things, the more i believe that i have been, as the society likes to say, "courting sin".

  for years, i've questioned internally, the policies of the watchtower, the teachings, the directives of co's and do's and the overall "attitude" of jw's.

  mind you, no one would have ever thought that i didn't believe this is without a doubt the "truth".

  A love of reading and critical thinking ability.

  Smart people join groups like JWs for emotional reasons. It's not lack of a brain, more like hole in the heart, or some sort of void within. People can be intelligent, do well academically, etc. but still have an emotional blind spot when it comes to personal beliefs.
