Welcome.
Yes, the lack of honesty and transparency about the past teachings and procedures is something that has woken many "faithful" up.
i decided to join this forum as have been lurking awhile.
there are lots of interesting topics on here that appeal to me.. i have been a witness for almost 3 decades and am very disillusioned with the organisation at this time.
i am beginning to see it in a new light as i am getting older.
Welcome.
Yes, the lack of honesty and transparency about the past teachings and procedures is something that has woken many "faithful" up.
let's assume god decides what is good and bad.
does he (a) decide what is good because it is obviously good or (b) is it good simply because he says so?.
if (a) god has no choice in what is good.
So according to the bible, god thought the following was ok:
Genocide of people who believe different things
Slavery of 'other people' not chosen by him
Incest (committed by his "friends" - faithful worshippers like Lot)
Allowing daughters to be pack raped (Lot)
Shall we go on? So is God the standard for moral decisions?
i've always had the impression that they frowned upon it, but never quite knew for sure.....
It's a one-way street for witnesses!
The money only goes one way...and that is to the society...never to people who actually need it.
Not even witnesses are helped out by a charitable gift from the orgniaztion!
just a few minutes till the start ..... we hope for a news from absalom and wifibandit very soon.. wifibandit, any tread on reddit for am?.
also there were some info about live stream.
any news about that..
But guys , "it was the best EVER!"
Wasnt it?
when you finally and officially exited the cult, whether it be by disfellowshipping, disassociating or fading - what was the first things you did that are considered "worldly"?.
for me, it was like crash landing on another planet that looked like earth but was completely different to the earth i knew.
i wanted to learn everything that i thought i already knew.. first things i did:.
I started to use my brain and logical thinking abilities.....
i have far too many to name, however, i have noticed obscene music, cussing, lying and secretive gambling to name a few.
thoughts?.
So many things...including ones already mentioned by others.....and many more....
I literally have lost count!
But one classic was seeing an elder in bethel bribe the branch committee with a bottle of expensive scotch to get a sister out of his department because she turned down his offer to "get to know one another"!
Yep, then that elder used to talk openly about not doing anything deceitful !
I can't make that stuff up....
a few weeks ago, i was chatting with a brother who is well into his 80’s.
he went to college, got his bachelor’s degree and was a school teacher for many years.
during that time, he was an elder in his congregation, had many privileges and cared for his young family.
Higher education teaches people HOW to think, rather than telling them WHAT to think.
Such a skill results in people asking rational questions.....and therefore gullibility to fairy tales is negated...
what a horror.
instead of there being "more fish in the sea" our marriage mates came from the small and crapy witness pond.
anyone got burned by going with mr or mrs you will have to do?
Most witnesses marry the "ideal" mate...according to their "spiritual standing...
Actual attraction or compatibility has little to do with it sadly.....
Them most just end up, "making it work" rather than really loving each other unconditionally.
Few can ever really be themselves either, as the society's guidelines are involved in every aspect of that marriage.
this coming saturday!.
memorial service for jehovah's witness george kraynak.
being broadcast worldwide as a livestream direct from the sharon kingdom hall of jehovah's witnesses at 2885 hann hill rd, hermitage, pennsylvania usa.
And who exactly is he?
i may not have put this in the correct spot, but i do think it's scandalous the way time gets counted now.
i've seen a cart at the edge of our farmer's market, never anyone close enough to talk.
yesterday was a drizzly day and there were two carts set up, covered in plastic, "witnessing" on their own.
So imagine if the same attitude toward "counting time" was applied by an employee at a job?
The rounding up of hours, the lack of productivity etc....
Yes, that person would be fired quick smart!
