1974...SO CLOSE.......(hmmm)
as we all know, armageddon was just around the corner in 1974. at the district conventions that year, it was announced that there would be two special meetings during the month of september; one would be for interested people (e.g., bible studies, family members, inactive, etc.
), and the other would be for baptized publishers.
these were to be held in place of the service meetings for the two weeks, iirc.

1974...SO CLOSE.......(hmmm)
i've just finished eating a slice of delicious birthday cake!.
depart from me, for i am a sinful person.. tee hee hee.. sylvia.
Did anyone get their head cut off because of this birthday cake incident?
i bought a house literally in walking distance from the local kingdom hall.
we used to get saturday morning doorknockers on a regular basis.
then it stopped.
The video is some sort of highly charged, emotionally manipulative stuff with slow-motion montages of life "in a perfect world" with emotional music....
The way the society uses emotion nowadays is unbelievable!
https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/memorial/remember-jesus-death/
i am compiling my list of reasons.
you can add yours if you like to.. 1. religions like telling their members to pay a lot of tithes thereby making their members to be in need and poor..
You use the expression "Tithing"?
Are you sure you come from a Witness background?
hello everyone i wish everyone a good day and many good prayers to all.
as a newcomer here 2nd post overall.
and i have to approach this subject of this book, now i know this book has been talked about on this site a while ago, but i had to bring it back up as most still in jw's know today is the first day of them doing the memorial preaching work.
i have seen this statement or similar ones popping up in the study edition of the wt lately.
whenever they talk about undeserved kindness or jesus ransom they add this little gem to get the point across.
this is sick, why do they feel the need to tear down people's self esteem?
Yes, the very notion that ancestors thousands of years back are responsible for me now, just flys in the face of logic.
WHY should I be punished or judged for something I did not do?
Why would you smack your child in the morning when he awakes, in anticipation of the bad things he might do throughout the day??
i have had some ultra weird exchanges with some existing jws these past 2 months that have me caught off guard (which is rare for me) - but overall just odd.. 1. i was out at a happy hour with some coworkers, and a woman whom i used to be friends with in another congregation came in with her husband.
background: her kids, myself, and her best friends son - were all close friends!
so we all were around this woman and her bff on a regular basis.
Wow!
Amazing.
I know of a sister who was DF at least three times for sleeping around. Amazingly, She then BRINGS two of the guys into the society!
So despite her life choices and activity, she was always still firmly mentally trapped by the society, and kept being emotionally and physically drawn back.
The FOG (Fear Obligation and Guilt) was strong obviously!
does the rank and file or the elders view us as disassociated or disfellowshipped or simply "weak" or possibly a "prodigal son" type?.
Um, remember the way that the "return to Jehovah" brochure presents those who are not active?
The ONLY acceptable reason for not attending is the ones they list!
HOWEVER in real life, any who stop attending are spoken off in less that glowing terms!
I can tell you of an Elders and MS meeting in which "weak" ones were mentioned (during those rare times when the elder body decided to do some shepherding!)
The level of contempt for some people mentioned made me object firmly to the rest of the body. I said "If this is the way we are speaking of people who are our Brothers and Sisters, AND we don't know their circumstances, then why bother trying to shepherd them? It seems like we have already judged them!"
I wasn't too popular that night.
a local elder had the part this week on the "good news" brochure.
he said: "if the householder has any questions, direct them to jw.org, don't say, just look up jehovah's witnesses on the internet(an older sister said this at the door), if you do they will be directed to a site visited by apostates and weak witnesses!
" "this mistake, would cause the householder to never accept bible truth".. i thought to myself, wow, i'm sure some listening to this part, will get curious now(many in the hall are just being exposed to the internet, and practicing with their new tablets) and do, just what they were told not to do..
The first time I ever found an "apostate" site was actually while trying to find the official site in order to research material for a public talk I was to give!

The BEST thing the society ever did was go online!
It is ONLY one or two clicks away from the TRUTH about the truth.....
