Yes Anders!
I got that distinct impression. He just didn't want to hear anything except positive praise for the convention drama or the bible or the society. Anything that deviated from that is "apostasy" and "negativity"
so after three years of fading, my elder father has never really asked why we have chosen to stop attending.. today, after a mixed discussion, he starts talking about the "solution to all the world problems" and says "i don't know what you now believe, but i believe gods kingdom will fix everything" i let the comment go, and didn't respond.. then he goes on about the video "remember the wife of lot" because he just came from the convention last weekend.
"don't get caught up in this system...blah blah".
i couldn't help myself, and said one thing "dad, that video failed to show the next chapter of that account.

i was told this during my judicial committee (some five years ago) when i brought up concerns i had with the "truth.
" in addition one of the elders (who was an engineer) said once you've accepted a proof of pythagorus' theorem you don't later start doubting that theorem.
i thought that argument was a weak analogy then.
Yes, the BIBLE itself says "Keep on proving your faith".
Doing it once and never questioning anything, is like eating once, and then saying "I'll never have to eat ever again"
i had some witness that posted these.

Well said smiddy!
Yes, witness almost take delight in seeing catastrophic events unfold, as it gives them some sort of boost that "the wicked last days are here"
Schadenfreude? Hmmm...🙄

I couldn't help myself, and said one thing "Dad, that video failed to show the next chapter of that account. It didn't show anything about how Lot, a "righteous man" had sex with his two virgin daughters! How odd? Wonder why that awkward part was neglected?"
He responded by shutting down the conversation and saying "your apostasy has clearly gone too far. I will NOT allow you to subvert my faith! This conversation is over!"
So it seems that even talking about the bible itself, or pointing out the uncomfortable parts it contains, is seen by witnesses as an attack, or as persecution by apostates
i went into my mother's office to leave her a small note to say that we love and miss her and would love to get together.
i found this on her desk.
this is jehovah's witnesses.
Sending you much love ❤️
i never understood why the society was against beards or goatees but completely okay with mustaches.
what's the difference?
facial hair is facial hair, whether it's above your lip or around your cheeks or under your chin.
Letter from the Governing Body re facial hair:
"Dear brothers,
It has come to our attention that questions have arisen regarding the acceptability of beards. We take this opportunity to remind all of Jehovah's views on this vital matter. Clearly, all of us wish to please our creator, and share in the wonderful blessings he has in store for our future. So these kindly reminders should assist us in continuing to make 'his heart rejoice.'
As with all historical accounts in the bible, they 'were written aforetime for our instruction' and contain principles we can draw on.
So after prayer and consideration, we have discerned that the anti type of Samson should be applied. His long hair and beard was evidence of Jehovah's blessing. However, as we know, Jesus came to fulfil the law, and reverse all previously implemented guidelines.
With this in mind, a Christian nowadays would follow the antitypical example of Samson and shave his beard and keep his hair short in order to please Jehovah who no longer approves of the way he designed men.
Sisters too can learn much from this example. A Godly woman would 'learn subjection in all things' and ensure that she too does not allow any facial hair to grow (or any body hair either as directed by the 'faithful and wise slave class') So all sisters who fail to wax will be kindly reminded to maintain their spiritual standing in this area.
We trust that this letter helps to clear up any misunderstandings.
Your brothers,
Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses
i was chatting with my very jw pioneer mother (aged 65) and out of the blue she tells me she is sore from a particular pose she did in yoga class.
"wait, what??
" i say in my mind.
Oh wow phoebe! That elder sounds like an uneducated Pratt!
Best comment award goes to confusedalot! Priceless!
the organization transforms quickly into a multimedia self-help feel good religion.
i am very allergic to it.
can not hide it either.
Shallow and superficial, emotionally charged, "feel-good" conformism is how I would describe the modern form of the organisation.
a fair bit of time was spent discussing the (one) scripture in the bible that "proves" that when the bible touches on scientific subjects, it is absolutely correct.
this was at the most recent clam meeting this past week.
from isaiah, the reference to the "circle" of the earth.
Yeah. God can "inspire the bible" yet not ensure that the correct word is used by the writers? Kind of makes the whole divinely inspired idea laughable!
september 11, 2017 to all congregations in the united states re: global assistance arrangement for the 2018 service year.
And yet when I was an accounts servant, the COBE/PO specifically told me that they would NEVER announce a specific amount per publisher! Yet the secret letter that the flock doesn't see told us to do that very thing!
