were you considered a 'good mate'?.
did you feel like a piece of meat?.
guys/girls' opinions welcome.
You just keep telling yourself that, if it soothes your psyche.

Haha to Odrade....Yeah, she was the perfect, little witness girl to marry. All prim and proper, and pioneer-ish. The pretty, SPIRITUAL nerd.
ME, on the other hand, was the ANTI perfect girl. All dark and artsy, listening to my "non-standard" music, and not dressing like the REST of the good little witnesses.
If any of the boys WERE interested in me, their good little JW parents steered them clear, QUICK! No matter if I WAS an elder's daughter....why didn't they go after another elder's daughter like...ODRADE?
Oh well, I didn't want any of the geeky, witness boys anyhow. I would much rather have been w/ someone interesting. And I don't seem to be having any problem lately w/ attracting guys. What do nerdy pioneer boys know anyhow?

i was wondering if anyone out there has ever needed to find a new home for a family pet, and if so, how they handled breaking the news to the kids.
we got this dog when he was 13 weeks old and he is now 16 months old.
in the short time we have had him, despite all the love and attention he receives, he has destroyed our home!
Yeah, i'm w/ Nilfun...Don't hide it, or make up stories. My parents did that w/ various animals, or just outright lied to me. (case in point..."oh, the mama cat had kittens. We need to take the kittens to the shelter, but you can keep your mama cat" The next day, when I come home from school, yeah, they're all gone.)
When I was about 18, and wasn't living at home for a brief period, my cat that I'd had for about 6 years died. My parents did not tell me. I found out from a friend who asked me if I was going to replace my cat. "Why do I need to replace my cat??" Yeah, wasn't a pretty scene.
Just be honest. I think I have a lot of pent up hostility for the things my parents put me through w/ animals.

g'day all you freedom lovers and freedomfesters!.
so how's it been going for you this weekend?
or as we say downunder "owyergoinmate?
"Welcome! Congratulations, you're evil now. Isn't it FUN??"
i watched this on bravo last night.
so what's yer favorite movie for spookiness on halloween?.
creature: "i have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine.
I'm with Joann.....the Shining is NOT scary, and the Nicholson version butchers the book. There is a version that was played on TV that Stephen King wrote the screenplay to, that is much scarier than the Movie version, and is much more faithful to the book.
The Ring FREAKED me out! I don't scare at movies that easy, and that thing had me leaving the room and peeking around the corners at the TV. It was just eerie. And the coming out of the TV thing....EEK!
Poltergeist is good....the only part that really scares me in it, is the clown doll coming alive in the closet. I still can't watch that. But, it's still a really good ghost movie.
The Exorcist and the Omen are kind-of cheezy, in my opinion.....
I think general blood and gore horror movies are more funny than scary. My friends and I used to watch them all the time at night, and just have a good laugh.
Movies that involve the supernatural are scary to me.

i was wondering if anyone knows anything about the disease myeloma.
and would you happen to know of anyone who has it..
orangefatcat...
Hey Fat Cat,
I'm really sorry!
One of my good friend's husband passed away from it last January. I'm sure I can get loads of information from her, if you need any, or have any questions. Feel free to PM me w/ any. He had Multiple Myloma, so I don't know if that's a worse stage of it, or not....but, yeah...PM me w/ any questions.
My thoughts are w/ you.....

recently there was a thread (i have searched and searched and failed to locate it) which discussed if jw kids were smarter, better readers, more likely to graduate hs, etc., than the population.
there was a great deal of discussion about reading.
the story below seems to have some bearing on that discussion - my apologies for not including the link.
Well, I did watch a lot of TV as a kid. Something about getting away from my old, dubby parents, if only for a while. We only had basic TV, tho'...so, I didn't have any EVIL CABLE.
It didn't seem to stunt my aptitude or love of reading, however. I read like crazy when I was little, and I still do. I also like to write a lot...stories, etc.
So, I honestly think it depends on the kid. You can grow up watching television, and still manage to be creative and literate.
