You can CERTAINLY find something better, however most churches don't call on you at your home soliciting your membership. After I faded, I didn't attend anywhere for several years, then thought about what kind of person I actually was, and where I would fit best. I decided that I was rather liberal, and spiritual, rather than religious. I eventually decided on the local Unitarian church, where I've been very happy for five years. You might try googling "belief-o-matic" or similar phrase to find an on-line test with a dozen or so questions to help you find what religion best fits your personal beliefs. I did not take it prior to joining the Unitarians, but having taken it since, the test confirms that the Unitarian faith is a good fit for my beliefs.

Materialised demons... why not?
by LtCmd.Lore inacctualy i don't believe in demons anymore.
but the recent bible teach study caused me to wonder... why does the society think that the demons are not capable of making bodies for themselves anymore, there was no support scripture so i looked it up on the wt library:.
in 1953 there was a questions from readers about why they posess people and animals... they simply stated without any proof that they are incapable of making bodies anymore.. then in 1955 they offer a scripture.. *** w55 10/1 p. 594 par.

Neanderthals were physically different, slightly larger brains on average, much stronger bones, sloping forehead, brow ridges. Cro-magnons were physically identical to moderns. Either would pass without a glance if dressed in modern clothing. And we all carry the genes for the older traits, even if they are recessive. I once knew a young man who had the sloping forehead and brow ridge, still was kind of handsome, even if unusual, his hair largely hid the shape of his head. There are also fossils of an ape which reached heights of 9 or 10 feet (from China, I think)?

Ever question why Roman and Greek myth, had similarities to Christianity?
by free2beme inthe virgin birth, the strong men, animals being used to tempt mankind, the war between gods, etc.
these are all things from greek and roman myth, yet every single one of these could be pulled out as examples from the christian bible.
i asked elders and they would say that the greeks borrowed christianity to make their myths.

Hmmm, Israel conquered by the Babylonians, who are eventually replaced by the Greeks, who are eventually replaced by the Romans. So the "nation" of Israel spends hundreds of years under the rule of whoever was the local superpower, and at the same time, is writing and editing their holy books which eventually became part of the Bible. I'm surprised there aren't MORE similarities.

The JW connection came through Michael McKeon, playing a very smug agent of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and David Spade, playing the perfect "yes man" and assistant. They suspect Beldar and Prymaat to be illegal aliens, and are trying to get infomation from them, so call on them at home pretending to be Jehovahs Witnesses. They try to talk about "the end of the world" and Beldar makes comments about how it may be sooner than they expect. The "JWs" mention that 144,000 will be saved, and the Coneheads venture that "they would be surprised if that many survived". Someone obviously did some research for this funny film.

Anyone seen "Wicker Man" yet?
by gaiagirl incurious if anyone has seen "wicker man" with nicholas cage yet.
i have not seen it but have seen the original 1973 version, depicting a scottish policeman who travels to an isolated island to investigate reports of a missing girl.
sort of a twilight zone thing going on, with contradictory clues everywhere.

Curious if anyone has seen "Wicker Man" with Nicholas Cage yet. I have not seen it but have seen the original 1973 version, depicting a Scottish policeman who travels to an isolated island to investigate reports of a missing girl. Sort of a Twilight Zone thing going on, with contradictory clues everywhere. People appeared to be friendly and healthy, and completely free from sexual hangups (quite a bit of the film dealt with this). In general, life on the island seemed very good, unless one was chosen to be "king for a day". Those who have seen the film know what I mean, I won't reveal more in order not to spoil things for those who have not.

Do you believe the Ark of the Covenant still exists (or ever existed)?
by gaiagirl inwhile thinking about more bible related legends depicted in films, a rather obvious one came to mind...the ark of the covenant.
do you think it still exists, hidden somewhere?
or do you think it was captured and destroyed following one of the defeats of israel?

Evolution still bugs me
by Geronimo ini know there are a lot of threads on evolution and creation and i've read a few here and there.
how can complex systems arise of themselves in the face of entropy?
one evolutionist book i read used snowflakes to show this is possible.

It is a basic property of matter to assemble itself into complex forms. Take a handful of silicon atoms, and a handful of oxygen atoms, and mix them up. Under the right conditions, you will form beautiful quartz crystals. This is what happens when you mix just TWO different atoms. Imagine what can happen when you mix a couple of dozen types of atoms, under the proper conditions...and imagine this, the same things that happen here on Earth also take place everywhere else in the Universe where conditions are favorable.

I liked "Empire Strikes Back" better than ANY of the newer Star Wars movies. This seemed to strike a high point of good writing, acting and special effects which none of the later movies equalled. IMHO, Jurassic Park should have been a single movie, no sequels at all.
