Not sure if JW's believe this, but I've spoken with other fundamentalist Protestants who explicitly state that there were NO carnivorous animals until after Adam and Eve disobeyed God. All those fossils of ancient Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptors, Mosasaurs, and even Carachadon sharks only ate fruits and vegetation. If anything is an indicator as to which churches do NOT have the truth, I'd say this would be one of the best.

Serenity was a good movie, although I never saw the show upon which it was based. Last night I watched "Pitch Black" a really scarey sci-fi film about the crew of a ship which crashes onto a planet with multiple suns, and what happens when an eclipse causes darkness for the first time in 22 years. Looking forward to the sequel.

Did Jesus Christ commit a serious sin and ask Jehovah to forgive him?
by booker-t ini was talking to this girl the other day about the movie the da vinci code.
i went and saw the movie and loved it.
i had heard for years and years that some people felt that jesus had and "affair" with mary magdeline and had kids with her.

Just a bit more to add to the comments already made: "Forgive" means to extend mercy towards, or to hold back from punishment, or to cancel a debt which is owed. For example, sometimes JWs might discuss whether Hitler can be forgiven for his extreme sins. (As I recall, the reasoning used to be that since he has died he has paid for all his sins, and gets to start again with a clean slate.) A criminal who knows he is guilty might still ask to be forgiven, so that he doesn't have to go to prison, or even be executed. Or, someone might say, "Never mind about that $10 you owe me." "Forsake" means to turn away from, or abandon. Some wedding vows include a phrase in which each person promises to "forsake" all others partners for their new spouse. Alternatively, a married man might "forsake" his wife and children, and run off and live with someone else, or even by himself. My own take on the scripture in question is that Jesus expected something miraculous to happen, perhaps to be taken bodily to heaven after a certain length of time, or something similar. When time seemed to be dragging on and he could feel himself dying, he asked "Why have you forsaken me?" You are correct, the movie, and the book, are great. There MAY be elements of truth in the story, depending on how much credibility you want to give to some of the source material. I've heard that "Angels and Demons" is in the works as a film now, I hope it is as good.

The Myth of Good and Evil
by Lady Lee inmost of us, if not all, have grown up in a world where good and evil are opposites of each other.
not only are they opposites they are at war with one another.. old western movies depicted "good" as the fellow in the white hat while the "bad" guy wore the black hat.
the bible depicts evil as darkness and everything that is good as white.. these beliefs are so ingrained in us from very young ages.

Movies and TV have often portrayed "evil" as less than human, and usually accompany their presence on screen with ominous music as well. LOTR is a very good example, although some of the bad guys are kind of borderline, such as Christopher Lee playing the wizard who turns to the side of evil. Kind of hard to tell with him at first. When I was very young, I remember sometimes watching Popeye cartoons which were already ancient, made during the second World War. Sometimes Popeye would fight Japanese sailors who were always drawn with huge protruding buck teeth, thick glasses, and walked with a curious scurrying shuffle. But they were also shown to be shrewd and clever, therefore dangerous. Bluto/Brutus was very large and strong, but his ungroomed beard, at a time when beards were no longer fashionable for men, showed him to be more "primitive" than Popeye, therefore less human. Dehumanizing the enemy helps draw the lines between good and evil clearly, and prevents the audience from feeling sorry for the ememy when they are eventually defeated. This is one of the interesting things about the Star Wars series, in which Darth Vadar is the personification of evil, but we eventually learn about the horrible and tragic circumstances which led to him turning to "the Dark Side" and aligning himself with the forces of evil, and in "Return of the Jedi" he does sort of redeem himself before he dies (apologies if that is a spoiler for anyone).

Are You a Latitudinarian? (Liberal)

Yes, very much so. I observe that it is more profitable to discuss a number of different ideas, than to simply follow one concept handed down from someone in self-proclaimed authority. The expression "Variety is the spice of life", applies in a great many areas.

It is interesting that when Pilate asked Jesus "What is Truth", there is no record of Jesus giving an answer. (John 18:34) All the choices listed have a vested interest in NOT telling the truth, although I think you should have included a category for televangelists. Used car salesmen are inclined to say what they need to in order to convince someone to buy that vehicle. Lawyers will say what they need to in order to win their case, regardless of justice. Watchtower Society needs to keep people believing that they are the sole representatives of God on Earth in order to keep "donations" coming in. I am more inclined to believe scientists, as the scientific method requires demonstratable proof of claims. So, I tend to trust the writings of scientists such as Carl Sagan, Albert Einstein, Niles Bohr, Fred Alan Wolf, Richard Dawkins, Steven Jay Gould, plus some of the ancients such as Erastothsenes and Hypatia, not because they are infallible, but because what they have written can be checked and tested for accuracy. One single National Geographic, Smithsonian, Scientific American, or Nature magazine is worth more than all the Watchtowers and Awakes in the world.

How do you explain Altruism?
by nicolaou inaltruism describes an unselfish attention to the needs of others and is central to the main religions: jesus told his followers to; "love your neighbour as yourself, mohammed said none of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself and buddhism advocates seeking for others the happiness one desires for oneself.. .
throughout history the debate has been whether this benevolence towards others is part of our make-up and natural inclination or a virtue we must impose on ourselves through effort, religious or otherwise.
then of course came darwin with his ideas about competition and natural selection the origin of species described a world where every organism struggles for it's own supremacy.. .

Animals often display altruism, probably the best known example is that of dolphins saving drowning humans, which has been documented for more than 2000 years. People who have dogs and children often find that when the children are learning to walk, the dog will frequently deliberately place itself in a position to help steady the toddler. Animals even display altruism towards those of other species, such as one case in which a baby hippo lost its mother, and adopted (or was adopted by) a giant tortoise. Another incident involving hippos was when a cow died crossing a river, and its body washed up onto the banks, hippos stood vigil around the body for hours, gently licking it as if attempting to revive it (or perhaps protecting it from crocodiles until they were certain the cow was really dead?).

There used to be a game show called "The Match Game" which worked this way, although not always song titles, usually just phrases and expressions. So, with apologies to Gene Rayburn,... "Its my party and I'll play 'five minutes in the closet' with whomever I want to."

by minimus infunny thing about jws----many celebrate thanksgiving but say they're only eating turkey with all the fixings by coincidence.
god made the food to be consumed everyday.
then you get witnesses who celebrate christmas the day before or after with all sorts of presents but they won't give it on the 25th because that day is pagan.
