A JW told me today that Mazda Miatas are the car of choice for gay men, and Subarus are very popular among lesbians. I asked him how many gay and lesbian folks he actually knew, and what the source for his information was. He admitted that he didn't know any gays or lesbians, but that "a friend who works in an auto shop" had told him. I then told him I had quite a few gay and lesbian friends, and that his stereotyping was not observed in the cars driven by ANY of them. I said I HAD heard of a church that was so narrow minded that members were encouraged to drive ONLY four door cars, and anything with fewer doors was frowned upon. His comments did make me curious, though...has anyone else ever heard of this particular stereotype? It was certainly the first time I'd ever heard it.

I was mugged once by a guy who waited outside a store for me, and caught me with my hands full and off my guard. He got my money, police said he targeted me because I was white and appeared vulnerable. I was lucky enough to spot him again a few days later, and I was prepared for the encounter this time. I absolutely guarantee he will never mug anyone again, for the rest of his life. His career in crime ended, once and for all, on that day.

Lets talk about Jesus!
by real one inluke 4:16-19 jesus, went back to nazareth, where he had been brought up, and as usual he went to the meeting place on the sabbath.
when he stood up to read from the scriptures, he was given the book of isaiah the prophet.
he opened it and read,.

IMHO Jesus was, at most, a guy who saw injustice and corruption in the religion of his own culture, and attempted to institute some reforms. Some conservatives didn't want the status quo to be changed, so accused him of sedition, and he was executed. End of story. He didn't die for anyones sins, he simply died. Some of his ideas were picked up and expanded by those who lived decades later, and formed into a new religion.

"There are no transitional forms in the fossil records all life appears in his present form and state and either still exist or has gone extinct. there is/ are no missing links. Evolution says that life just sprang up in huge leaps and bounds.Thats how they jibe their theory with the evidence of the fossils. "
Every single statement in the preceding paragraph is false. Perhaps you need to actually visit a museum, or at least read some reputable journals, or even National Geographic. Maybe even read a book by a degreed scientist. You clearly have no concept of what fossils actually exist, what evolution actually teaches, or how it works.

"I think there are other dimensions and someone in that dimension designed us." WOW!! Talk about believing in unproveable stuff, that is an absolutely perfect example. My question would be "What evidence do you base such a belief upon"? Just a couple of notes to add, namely "theory" as used by scientists means "this is what happend, based on the evidence we have observed" The word you really want to use to describe unproven things is "hypothesis", which is NOT a synonym for "theory". Also, concerning people living "only in the region of Mesopotamia", when exactly was that? Australia has been inhabited for over 40,000 years, with many lines of evidence proving this.

"Deal Buster" beliefs which prove it ISN'T the truth
by gaiagirl inwhat convinced you personally that "the truth" wasn't true after all?
for me, it was several:.
the claim that humans have only been on earth for about 6000 years.. the claim that evolution has not occurred, in the face of overwhelming evidence that it has.. the claim that the bible is inspired by god..

I missed this weeks episode, but usually enjoy it very much. My favorite episode was "The Missing Link", about a primitive amphibian (or a very advanced fish) from Greenland called Acanthostega, considered one of the first tetrapods.

those zany Fundies and their dragons!
by veradico inthought you all might enjoy this: http://objectiveministries.org/creation/pterosaurs.html .
you see, part of the "evidence" for a young earth is the "fact" that humans created stories about dragons.
like the ubiquity of the flood myth ("how could so many cultures have the same story without its being historical?

Here is a link to a book titled "The First Fossil Hunters", available on Amazon. The book demonstrates that some fossils which were known to the Greeks and Romans were the basis for some of their mythology. http://www.amazon.com/First-Fossil-Hunters-Paleontology-Times/dp/0691089779/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203893832&sr=8-1

Humans anatomically like ourselves have been around 50,000 years or so. Humans almost like ourselves, but different enough to have different skeletal remains, specifically Neanderthals, existed as long ago as 250,000 years. For certain, Neanderthal was human, in that they used fire, buried their dead (with possessions, so may have had a concept of an afterlife), cared for injured members, made tools. There was an overlap period when both species existed, however it is not known how well they got along, or if they avoided one another. There were other "hominids" which existed earlier, however not everyone would call them "human", at least, not human yet.
