For games involving ancient civilizations, I enjoyed Caesar III quite a lot. It is similar to Pharoah, Cleopatra and to Zeus, which involve Egyptian and Greek cultures, respectively. For third-person shooters, the first four Tomb Raider games were good, as was Darkened Skye. Drakan was the best of this type game overall, IMHO, and I like that the lead characters were capable women in all of them. Lately I've been playing the Sims (original), with all the expansion packs, and finding it quite immersive.

I suppose my "inner geek" was manifesting at an early age, but I was oddly attracted to sci-fi comics found in used-book stores which were already old when I read them, such as "Magnus-Robot Fighter", and "Mighty Samson" (about a Herculean fellow in an apocalyptic world of the 21st century or so). "Doom Patrol" was a lot like "X-Men", but from DC comics. Also, "The Spectre", "Metal Men", "Metamorpho", "Mystery in Space" and others. Also, some of the "Classics Illustrated" series, "Journey to the Center of the Earth", "Frankenstein", etc. In more recent years, I've enjoyed "Danger Girl", as you just can't have too many stories about strong capable women. Also, the "Bitchy Bitch" stories by Roberta Gregory are very entertaining and perceptive.

Do you support gay marriage?
by chappy inis your belief moral, social or practical?
would you feel the same way if there were absolutely no religious influence on the matter pro or con?.
regardless of your belief, does every adult have a fundimental right to marry anyone of his or her choosing, regardless of gender?.

I support gay marriage. I do not see sexual preference as having any bearing on whether people can be happy together or whether their union contributes to a stable society. Unhappy marriages make for unstable societies, regardless of the gender of the people involved. People who are unhappy in their marriage are more likely to commit crimes or other antisocial acts. So, if given the choice, I would rather live in a neighborhood where every other house was a content gay or lesbian couple, rather than unhappy hetero couples. I suppose my reasoning is non-religious, as I don't really care what men living 2000-3000 years ago thought about the issue. They are simply not relevant. Ultimately, it doesn't harm me in any way if gays or lesbians are granted the same rights which heteros enjoy, rather it makes the society in which I live more fair to everyone. More happy people means a better society in which to live.

Kind of reminds me of a quote attributed to Magellan: "The Church says the Earth is flat, yet I have seen her round shadow on the Moon during an eclipse, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the Church."

Some of us once watched a network broadcast of a movie titled "The Bible", in which several stories from Genesis were depicted. As we watched, some in the group would occassionaly comment, "Well, they almost got it right", or something similar, to show how knowledgable they were. The account of Sodom and Gomorrah ended with Lot walking toward the camera, while a large mushroom cloud rose up behind him on the horizon, on the site of the two cities. What a loving god Lot worshipped!

XJWs and Christianity
by Shador innot sure if this is the right place for this.... just wondering about this.
it seems to me that most folks who leave "the truth" tend to go athiest or remain in some type of christianity.. anyone know of (or are) xjws who have gone a different route (i.e.
eastern religions, neo-pagan, wicca, etc.).

I'm also Pagan. Among many other virtues, I appreciated the acceptance of personal responsibility for our actions, rather than blaming Satan or other invisible entities. Recommended reading: "Drawing Down the Moon", by Margot Adler, and "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk, plus anything by Vivianne Crowley or Scott Cunningham.

Actually, I NEVER kill a spider with hairspray, vacuum cleaner or any other means, but PLAY WITH some of the cute furry spiders, (not sure of their name) which move rapidly in little jerks and hops. Others however, I admit that I pick up with a piece of paper and take them outside.

While I believe that life, even intelligent life, does exist elsewhere in the Universe, it does not necessarily follow that they are described in bible verses. I find it interesting that whenever someone reads a difficult-to-explain passage, they always take the BIG leap to some extraordinary, or even supernatural explanation. Why not simply say "Ezekiel experienced a hallucination", something well within the range of human experience? Or, less likely but still possible, "Ezekiel witnessed a comet, nova, or other astronomical phenomenon"?

Ouija boards
by m. kirov innow that you are out of a totalitarian cult, would you or have you played with a ouija board?

I've not used an Ouija board, but have several Tarot decks, and find them entirely harmless. I don't believe in the existence of armies of evil invisible spirits who wish me ill, or in a duality of Good/Evil. I see the Universe as benevolent, and myself as an integral part of that Universe. Evil really exists, but not as a separate incarnate being, only in the hearts of humans when they CHOOSE to hurt others.
