Many minerals and rocks display texture which look to an untrained eye like wood grain. Amphibole, pyroxene, and shale are three which come to mind rather quickly, in addition to basalt mentioned in the article. There is a rather famous formation known as "the devils postpile", which LOOKS like a bunch of timbers standing vertically, however is actually a large number of basalt columns formed during the cooling process. To me the photos look like rock outcrops, nothing more.

What is it? Not a bird or a plane, but an ark?
by truthseeker inthis post has a little more detail than the previous post on noah's ark.. it could be older than the ark or newer.. there are some really good pictures here.. without another debate on whether the flood happened or didn't happen, does anyone have any ideas as to what this thing is doing so high up?.
if it is a boat, then what the heck would a boat be doing at this height?.

by tfsm ini know this is slightly off-topic but i find alot of the discussion here somewhat depressing and most of it is far too cerebral for me.

"The Wedge" or a wedgie for evolutionist?
by Deputy Dog in"the wedge" or a wedgie for evolutionist?
on a resent thread (the origin-of-life foundation, inc. the secret $1,000,000 prize) the question was asked: why would the origin-of-life foundation, inc. want "to keep the project as quiet as possible within the scientific community"?

Surely he is not suggesting that the human genome existed 3.1 billion years ago?

Seems as if there was a movie a few years ago about a child who was supposed to be the latest incarnation of Buddah? In any case, I tend to think "Sure, why not?"

Should I persue a relationship with a Jehovah's Witness?
by BNS ini am 21 and live in ny.
i lived in sc for 2 years and went to college there.
while i was there, i met a 27 year old married man and he had an affair with me.

I agree with the above comments, this relationship doesn't seem like a good idea, and it was wise of you to seek counsel from people who know about Jehovahs Witnesses. Most of us here are JW's, or former JW's, so know of what we speak. The best way to meet someone compatible is to live your life doing the things you like to do. You will meet people who also enjoy doing those same things, providing a common ground on which a relationship can be built.

Disturbing illustrations
by Fleshybirdfodder ini've heard this illustration several times in varying formats.
to encapsulate: a man works at a railway bridge and is in charge of switching the tracks so that the train can successfully cross the river.
he sees his son playing on the bridge just as the train is coming.

That illustration brings to mind the question "So who is the 'wife' to whom Jehovah brings the broken lifeless body of Jesus'"? Ashera? Astarte? Istar? Isis?

A woman that strongly supports the dubs
by greendawn ini was talking with a woman today who admires the jws, though not one of them, and she was telling me things like they are the only people with strong principles and families and the only ones that really try to apply god's laws in their lives and uphold biblical truth.
also that there are many diseased individuals among the blood donors and most donated blood is contaminated so the dubs are doing well to avoid transfusions.
i was going to say to her i am surprised that you did not join them.

"she was telling me things like they are the only people with strong principles and families"...She may actually believe this, however it only shows that she hasn't spent much time in a Kingdom Hall. Ask her "What percentage of people in the local KH have been divorced at least once".

Sometimes when I was young, I would enhance the illustrations in the magazines, modifying their features or changing their expressions, or drawing in a word ballon like a comic book. I also would experiment with OOBE, and sometimes went to some really neat places. At other times, kegel excercises provided a very pleasant experience.
