To clear up a point which was raised earlier in this thread:
An A.S. is an Associate in Science degree, usually earned in a two year program following high school. Associates degrees are offered in many fields, with a certain number of hours of "core" classes which pertain to the major field, plus some English, Literature, Math, etc.
I've known people with Associates Degrees in Machine Shop and Medical Technology (the girl who sticks the needle in your arm at the Blood Bank might have an A.S. in this field), etc.
Most people who attend college used to go for four years and earn a Bachelors degree, (nothing less was offered), or even longer to become a Master or Ph.D. An Associates Degree is essentially for those whose career choices require not more than two years of education past high school (not intended as a put-down, simply an observation).

The Ark of the Covenant
by sacolton in.
do you think it could be found?
when was it last seen in the bible?.

I once watched a documentary about the ark, hosted by Harrison Ford, which indicated that it had been buried in some location or another, but eventually found, and ended up in a government warehouse ; )
Further, the contents of that warehouse were eventually sold as government surplus during the mid 1990's, and I was the lucky purchaser of the crate which contained that ark ; )
Mr. Majestic's comments are insightful, as it does look a bit TOO nice to have been made by a bunch of wandering sheep-and-goat herders. Perhaps it was something they (ahem) took with them when they left Egypt? Or perhaps mine was actually made later, after they had invaded Canaan and killed and raped the inhabitants, and took all the land for themselves?
In any case, it lends a unique aquarium stand, with the tank on the chest-shaped base, and the lid on the top of the tank. Haven't had a single fish die since setting it up ; ) -

Who's your favorite Devil?
by Twitch ink, just for fun,.... i was watching the movie prophecy the other day and viggo mortenson's portrayal of lucifer was rather good imo.
i thought of another movie i saw, constantine where peter stormare played the same part, somewhat differently of course but a well done portrayal nonetheless.
so, who's your favorite devil?

And then you have Elizabeth Hurley as the Devil, in the film "Bedazzled"? http://youtube.com/watch?v=MX6EevfyMRg

If you also include those killed "in the name of", the God of the Bible wins even more decisively.

I loaned $3500 to a young couple living near Belton, TX, who promised to repay in 90 days. 90 days came and went, no payment. They filed for bankruptcy to get their OTHER creditors off their backs, and wrote me a letter telling me how they "decided" not to repay me. A loooong time later, I received a check for $1000. Have not heard from them in a very long time, and now that they are divorced, I probably won't. As a group, JW's are the least trustworthy people of any religion I've ever met.

A God I can believe in
by DanTheMan ini sometimes feel this spiritual void inside, like i'm standing at the edge of an abyss, and it's so much that i can hardly take it.
the odd thing about it is that i always feel it when i'm starting to get close to a lady, close enough to where those deep feelings start to arise - where a momentary look into her eyes feels like a thousand years of life experience and the ephemeral nature of life becomes most painfully plain.
i think that i need to believe in god, somehow, someway, if i'm gonna get through life without going nuts and/or doing myself harm.

I don't necessarily believe in a personal "god" in the sense that JW's or for that matter, most Christians believe.
However, I find the universe to be a very beautiful place. I have decided that the reason it appears beautiful to me is that I am part of an interrelated web of existence. I feel connected to every animal and plant living on this planet. They are my brothers, sisters, cousins, etc, because of our common ancestors.
Science tells us that everything contained in this universe formed from the same event roughly 14 billion years ago. This means that the same event which formed, for example, the stars which I see in the night sky, also initiated the events which led to myself. So, I'm related to those stars.

I Do Not Understand Why JWs Leave & Become Catholics!
by minimus inout of all religions, catholicism, to me, is wrong and clearly could never be the truth.
-
gaiagirl
If it came down to choosing between practicing as a Catholic or returning to being a JW, I would choose the Catholic Church without hesitation for the following reasons:
The Catholic Church encourages higher education, and may even offer some scholarships. JW's discourage higher education, so followers are essentially doomed to menial jobs.
The Catholic Church is accepting toward evolution, admitting that the weight of evidence in favor of evolution is so overwhelming that it cannot be ignored. JW's are still stuck in the 19th century, never mind the 20th.
Whether or not the human Mary was divine, it is important to honor the feminine aspects of divinity. JW's fail completely in this regard. The god they worship is a bloodthirsty, jealous, warmonger, completely unlike the kind and nuturing image of Mary adored by Catholics. In nature, the egg which begins life always comes from the female, not the male. And that egg CAN develop with no male involvement whatsoever. So if a divine being was responsible for this universe, and life in it, it makes better sense to view that being as a "goddess". If one chooses instead to view the universe itself as the source of life, then a feminine view of the universe still makes more sense.
Finally, I'd pass on being a JW again for the simple reason that, I've "been there, done that", and didn't find it to my liking.
