often, i speak to people who seem to have good jobs.
when i ask how they got that job, then they tell me that finally it came down to good contacts.. many jobs i had were also because of good contacts.
naturally, having a college or university degree is what it takes, but having contacts seems to be what opens doors.. so, how did you find your job, with help from an influencial person, or all by yourself?
I recently found a job by searching the "want ads" in my local paper on the internet.
It was an "open interview" for one day. I decided to go for the interview.... They recently called and offered me the job based on my "personality"...which besides my customer service skills, noted on my resume, is what got me my new job.
I relocated to this area 1.5 years ago...so nobody up here knows me...

I am extremely PROUD of you!!!
My Dad smoked 4 packs a day and only lived till he was 65.......he was a heart patient for 30 years before he died...and because of smoking he had emphesema...
I never tried to smoke........My Dad smoked for everybody in the family and I was sick all the time growing up in that grey smoke!!!
I have heard that quitting smoking is very difficult.......so again I say: I am proud of you!!!
Congrats!!!

Joyzabel and her daughter?
i left the borg in about 1979 of my own accord after having my eyes opened (and experiencing) the hypocrisies around me.. in 1982 i sucessfully left my jw husband, who devloped alcoholism, and became a wife-beater when he could no longer control me.
the elders in the congregation (i married into) told me i was to subject myself to my husband, and his justice.. beginning in 1987, i realized my own drinking problem was alcoholism, and i successfully got clean and sober in 1990.. attending that first meeting, on a summer sunday evening in 1987 was shear hell for me.
it was in the basement of a baptist church!
Welcome to the board Brenda!!!
Also, thanks for sharing your experiences!!!
As far as JW's and alcohol....I think the problem is huge........like others stated, it is the only "legal" thing they can do. Some KH's are known for "partying"...lol
Looking forward to more of your posts!

A special thank you to:

have you noticed those exotic locations some of our posters come from?.
some of you sure come from some exotic places!
you have the rest of us jealous.. but wait a minute.......is it possible our profiles don't tell where we really are at all?.
I really can't say...........but if I could...where my avatar says!!! Or any beautiful tropical island!!!
i loved the recent topic asking what each of our screen names means.
great question as i have always wondered about quite a few of our screen names.
as i was reading the responses, i looked at holey cheeses - king of the juice's avitar and thought about how i have been wondering for the past three years, what the hell that is a picture of.
I had picked a kewl island avatar...because I love tropical islands.
NOdenial, my hubby, came home and put the dizzy woman up, he thought it was kewl....and different!!!
I am up for things that are different and striking.........so I still use it!!!

ran into a jw yesterday who didn't mind talking to me.
she is 50+ and wears her hair long, about to the middle of her back.
she said she's been told by the brothers to cut her hair, that women her age should have short hair styles.
omg........what next?
There are no rules on long hair...as long as you look good, you can wear your hair at any length at any age...
What we have here is somebody trying to "control" somebody else....and it is none of their business.
That's one of the reasons I don't miss the meetings....too many busybodies there!
this move is harder than i thought it was going to be.
i have been doing the 'mental' work for this move for sometime now.
and the last week it's been the 'pysical' part.
I think it is very true: everytime you move you leave a piece of your soul behind.
I have had 13 major moves in the last 26 years.........even the thought of moving now "wears me out"...but I would do it again for the "right" reason.
But we have to think of "why" you are moving and "where" are you moving to...You have much to gain from this move.......It appears to be a win-win situation.
You will be living in beautiful Hawaii.....
your soul will never "freeze"..
and you will constantly be delighted by the tropical breezes.
...uh huh........that's right!!!
