A more fitting (and even more incomprehensible) analogy is: A man has a dog that craps on his lawn so he kills his son.
Don't forget to add, he kills his son to offer a sacrifice to himself.
i heard a preist pose this question and i'll admit, it made me think.. if your neighbor had a dog and a monkey and his dog bite you.
would you accept an apology from the neighbors monkey?.
just asking.

i took a hiatus from jwn because the wall started to collapse because i lost several people ive known almost my entire life.
these were people i thought would never die, the lies told by the watchtower is unforgivable!
there was a party i attended keeping a low profile while documenting what was said.
@OneEyedJoe I understand what you are saying. But I think the only real impact financially would be if the Org loses at the US supreme court. They have free legal counsel for starters. They have taken many cases all the way up there and have won a considerable amount. At the same time they just took in a billion dollars in real estate sales all while still collecting funds. By the time they get to the point that there may be a financial blow it would not surprise me at all that they have money already set aside to pay out.
The only thing that would cause doubt in the minds of JWs is if the JW religion were shut down while all the rest were not. Other than that it is just persecution from Satan. I already discussed these cases with my JW mom who is an extreme JW. She cast it off and shrugged her shoulders and threw it under the imperfect men excuse. This is even telling her the problem is that the branch made the calls on how to handle it, not the elders. Belief is a powerful thing and many people just cannot let go.
The most brilliant thing I believe the org has done, is managing to convince JWs that the light gets brighter and in doing so they can change at will. Even with some unexpected court losses they can easily explain it as prophetic. They will deliver you up to councils, Matthew 10:17 comes to mind. When posts like these come up I often wonder if the OP is still attending and around JWs. I do and I am, and the ideas that are presented are no where close to what I see and experience.

And to put into perspective the constant speculation of the organization's demise, here are some posts that have been made over the years.

This took me five minutes. There are many more out there and many more to come. I understand why people want the watchtower to end but as you can see for the last 13 years there are multiple reasons why it was going away and yet it's still here.

@AndersonInfo, nothing would make me happier than if I was WRONG lol. I just think emotions get in the way of reality. Tax free money is still tax free. The catholic church survived and so will the JWs. When dateline aired it's show on JWs and child abuse so long ago it had no impact. JWs dismissed it as propaganda and lies. In any case a year from now I will be happy to eat crow if I am wrong.

When the conti case happens JWs will just say either it is satan's persecution, or if in favor it is Jehovah's vindication. Either way is a win win for JWs. All of these threads predicting the imminent demise of the organization makes me want to research how many times people have posted that very thing in the last 13 years on this board.

Wouldn't the mormons be considered a doomsday cult? They have double the members and have been around 50 years longer.

From someone that still has to go to meetings, I don't get this impression at all. Witneses love their website, tv broadcasting, and all the changes. I don't even hear people talk about the generations of 1914.
new member here so don't attack :d here is a couple questions i have been contemplating lately.. .
if jw isn't the right religion, then which one is?
or is it basically believe in god, the bible and you'll be fine?.
1. There really is not a right answer to this. Every religion can be picked a part. A belief system is really for the individual's own identity. JWs need to feel they are different and are the only ones who know the truth. It is the indiidual jw who likes the beliefs and identifies themselves with it. Aside from anything else, there is no question that the organization since it's inception has not been able to predict one single thig right. That removes all credibility that god solely communicates with them.
2. This really tiea into question one. This is something you identify with and feel is important. Does it really mean anything? My hall when I was younger had a ministerial servant disfellowshipped for stealing money out of the sisters purses at the hall while they weren't looking. I realize you emphasized most but what experience do you have in truly trusting JWs? Do you do business with them? Have you loaned many to them? I personally went to a hall where I was the minority in my teenage years. Racism was alive an well in that hall and from what I her remains to this day.
3. I wholeheartedly agree win you here. This serves no purpose and actually feeds the idea that pripple that oppose JWs are crazed demon possessed monsters. But you have to understand a lot of people devoted their entire lives to this religion and finally found out it was all bogus. They are angry and feel cheated. That is why they do it but I do believe it hurts more than helps.
4. Why did Jehovah tell them this incorrect teaching for so long? Did he lie or did the governing body make it up? Aside from these questions a truly ingrained jw will dismiss these questions.
5. Because they want to make sure you don't question it to other people an start a problem.
i think this sucker could start reversing membership within a few months..
why didn't Catholics implode from pedophilia? Why didn't the Adventist fade after the great disappoinent? Why haven't the Mormons disappeared with their history? Why are JWs still around with all of their failed and revised predictions? Two reasons. Tax free money and people want to be preached to. People don't need results, just the idea is good enough. JWs like all the rest are going to be around longer than any of us. I liken people thinking the jw implosion as imminent, no different than JWs thinking the end is right around the corner.
