How long until the "Generation" gets Revised/Dropped?

if you don't already know this; the latest revision of the insight book has no mention of the "overlapping generation" bs online library, insight book .

obviously that change will not bee seen by the vast majority of people, so when will this "brighter light" shine through in a wt or assembly talk?

You guys need to look at the Seventh Day Adventist. Most of us know that William Miller took the day for a year principle and predicted the end to happen in 1844. Fast forward some decades and through him Russell got the day for a year concept and 1914 from Barbour. Anyway, the Adventist movement now proclaims over 18 million members. Yet here is what they believe about 1844 today in the year 2015.

Heavenly sanctuary (fundamental belief 24)—At his ascension, Jesus Christ commenced an atoning ministry in the heavenly sanctuary. In 1844, he began to cleanse the heavenly sanctuary in fulfillment of the Day of Atonement.
Investigative Judgment (fundamental belief 24)—A judgment of professed Christians began in 1844, in which the books of record are examined for all the universe to see. The investigative judgment will affirm who will receive salvation, and vindicate God in the eyes of the universe as just in his dealings with mankind.

So what was once the "end of the world" prediction has morphed into this now over 150 years later. 1914 will be the same for JWs as 1844 was to the adventist movement. It will always be around just with new explanations.

Why would you want to wake up before the 90s?

if you were a jw in the late 70s into the late 80s you might have been one of those brothers or sisters that just happened to be in the right kingdom hall and with the right people.

during that time being a jw wasnt too bad if you were able to establish the right connections.

a person could pioneer for a while and be appointed as a ministerial servant in a year or two and within 5 years you could be an elder in your twentys.

As someone pointed out on another thread, the Adventist movement has had failed dates and predictions since the 1840s. They have over 18,000,000 followers present day. Don't think for a second JWs won't be there one day. All they have to do is figure out how other religions hung around and they'll do the same. To this day the seventh day adventist still use 1844 as an important date, even though it was originally a failed prophecy. That tells you the life 1914 will have.

We were certainly much more "determined" back in the 80s growing up. Field service on holidays, during terrible weather were all done without questioning the sanity of it. We had to after all, the end was so close. As a congregation we very close, always having picnics and socializing. The generations teaching in 1995 was the first time I ever questioned anything. I sat there at the study and realized they ran out of time, there was no new information. Maybe it had something to do with everyone as well because the closeness of the congregation eventually dissipated. I used to have so much fun at assemblies, hanging with friends at the meeting, social events with the congregation, but times changed.

Something tells me 1914...

after todays watchtower lesson, and the lessons coming, something tells me bigger and bigger new understandings are coming.

and that it will culminate with 1914. notice how jesus is now coming, and no longer already here.

the current understanding is both, he is here and hes also coming.

I posted about this awhile ago. I think all they will do is change when the last days started. 1914 will remain when Satan was cast down and Jesus took the throne and inspected religions and picked the bible students. But the last days will be changed to a future event say 9/11/01 or whatever so it appears that last days just started and we are very close to the end. But I don't think any changes will be made to 1914 for at least 25-30 years.

i havent gone to meetings in about 1 year and a half.

one of my neighbors who is a jw-lady told me that the co on the last visit said that its very likely that right after armageddon (which is just around the corner) the present governing body members will be in charge of the united states since they are familiar with the culture.

and that the apostles and early christians will be in charge of areas like china.

I assume they will be in charge from heaven? What about the Governing Body of the 1970s? Or the 1980s? Those guys get what antartica?

Any news about the Watchtower's Toxic Waste Dump cleanup?

From what I have found this wasn't the watchtower dumping but they found this when they were building after digging to put in foundations. They reported this immediately and I don't even think they were found to be liable.
