Welcome and thank you for sharing. Your story is so painful to read. I wish the psychiatrist or family you moved in with had told child protective services about your parents so that you and your siblings could have been better protected.i have had to learn later in life that it is hard to see a person may have true psychiatric issues who is so close to you. My brother is the cruel one in my history. Since letting him bck in my life for a short time he caused harm to me again and my kids....affecting us emotionally, financially (huge), psychologically...

That said, you could send a video message, you could send a recorded message to your parents. I agree sending your parents separate messages is a good thing. Perhaps send a letter with picture of your kids to her. -

To Scully--A Tribute!
by Atlantis inif you are a new person to the board you might want to send scully a pm thanking her for her hard work and dedication.
the boe project owes her for helping it to get started.. example:.
several years ago there was a website called (dirtclod.com) who had the courage to display the boes right out in front of everybody.

Faith and Lies.
by sparrowdown inif you were hooked up to a polygraph machine when you were still an asleep, kool-aid drinking dub and asked if you agree 100% with every single wt teaching (asked as individual questions and collectively), would you have "passed" with no signs of deception?.
i know, i definitely would not have "passed" such an interegation.
i would have tripped up on questions about blood, dfing and non jws being marked for destruction just to name a few.

Hello Everybody
by Thomas the Bill Engine ini didn't see an introduction forum anywhere but i thought it would be weird to start posting without first introducing myself so, here we are.
i'm 15, and i've been looking for a place to discuss my thoughts on the religion that i'm pretty much stuck in at the moment.
my mom and dad divorced over their different beliefs over a year ago (my mom is jw and my dad is an very knowledgeable apostate, so you can see how they would fight over it), and since then i've stopped believing altogether.. just thought i'd say hello.

Welcome Thomas. Sounds like you've been going through a tough period with parents and divided religious/ philosophical views.
Keep confirming your love for your parents despite differing opinions. Love is very powerful and can help you all through this time.
I have a son your age. He is not on here but is still working through some issues.
Wishing you great success in your new pursuits. You are clearly a strong, critical thinker who takes initiative...all qualities of a good leader.

What's the purpose of being a JW now?
by MrTheocratic inwith all the recent changes to this religion, what really is the purpose of being a jw?
especially for those who have been in and witnessed all the changes and still no sight of the end.
for these ones in particular (35-55 year olds) they must be in a state of confusion.

With all do respect, I don't think abuse victims stay because it's all they've known or because it's familiar, or wanting to keep ignorant.
Many get trapped for financial reasons, family, lacked access to proper info, self-doubt, feeling unworthy, lack of practical support. depression can be paralyzing. Many are worn out and frazzled trying to keep up and are holding on for hope of fulfilled promise to see dead loved ones again or to restore health to loved ones or self. Many are not Internet savy or care to use it for curther study.
To open your eyes fully can bring more fear and sadness .....it is a kind of part peraonal death to accept TTAT. For me, it became too abusive to stay for my kids and I and it was a rather reluctant and progressive awakening. I was so busy with work, kids, family issues and massive change, I was missing or oushing off many things due to shallow study. When I had bursts of deep atudy, doibts would surface but frquently I had too much chaos and busy life with little kids to manage maintaining the study and would fall back to routine. If issues had been known earlier, I would have left way sooner.
Getting an iPad to help lessen book load, then using whatever sites I could find to get digital KM helped me awaken and study deeper. Thanks JW Facts and other who published early on, free PDF of KM and other documents.

Fear they were demons? Fear the Roman command would torture your wife and put your kids in slavery? Death sentence to the colliseum or worse?
The guards were soldiers who likely believed in many gods, demons, spirits, etc, and may not have understood or conncted the dots on what they witnessed. They did what they were told to do...as good soldiers fearing ramifications of death sentence for disobeying. In their off-duty time, or over grog, who knows what really was said or how experience may have changed them.
Just my opinion....
