I've just been disfellowshipped!
by maksutov inapparently it was announced last night.
i was not informed (for 'legal reasons'), but they phoned my dad and told him.
i understand it is due to my apostate book.

Sad to hear Maksutov, but not hugely surprising I should imagine?

Another reason god is a terrible "father"
by _Morpheus inits easy to look around and say if a singular all powerful were real he would stop the suffering of man and animal, a position i support.
however there is another even more basic premise i have pondered at times as well (im sure im not the first of course) : would any loving parent ever hide from their children?
consider it... our all knowing all loving father hides from us even though we cry out to know him.

Not only that, but he abandons them in a house which is full of things which can kill them!
AND if the kids go in daddy's "special" cupboard and find his "special mags" then he'll kill them himself!

The poor and deprived life of JW children.
by Esse quam videri ini find it hard to believe that adults on this forum make such a big deal about not celebrating birthdays, x-mas, easter, halloween, etc, etc, etc.
i grew up as a jw kid and it actually made me feel good, being different from the other kids in school.
we went to meetings.

Esse quam videri , as you have returned to this thread and aren't just another of those drive-by posters can I ask you if you have read this site: http://www.jwfacts.com/ ?
We can talk about our personal experiences and opinions 'til the cows come home but what really matters is facts.
If the JW's do have "The Truth" and are God's representatives on earth then it doesn't matter what anybody's opinion about birthdays or blood or any other subject are. If, on the other hand the JW religion does not have the truth, are deliberately misleading and even tell outright lies then none of their commands have any validity.
That's the crux of the matter and until you have the facts any other discussion is just gum flapping.

Sorry, But Your Sad Story Doesn't Make Me Feel Better. Is it supposed to?
by Tempest in a Teacup ini have very recently come out of a bout of severe depression which lasted for years.
i have ginormous underlying issues which i hardly talk about, especially to my family.. today my sister came in, wanting to force me to do something she wanted.
her strategy was to make me feel bad for feeling bad, just to show me that my problem (which she has no idea of but thinks she does) wasn't the biggest in the world.

Teacup, you could try saying "I don't need a lecture, I need a hug." That's what my wife tells me when I try to be helpful and "fix" her. :)
Hugs

why did man go from living 900 years to 90?
by sowhatnow ini cant recall the scripture, where it says than only a few men will he live to be 80 years or so, can anyone recall that?.
so then im wondering, if it is a fact that men lived long years 900 in some cases, for what reason would god limit our lifespan if our time is so short compared to his?.
how on earth does man go from living 8 and 9 hundred years down to 80 to 100 ?.

I read somewhere that all the ancient cultures were making excessive longevity claims back in the day. The Sumerians had their kings reigning for tens of thousands of years for example. I can't find the original article now, it was on the James Randi Educational Forum I think, but here's a Wiki link on the subject:

Do you think you should have the right to decline business on Personal or Religious grounds?
by PokerPlayerPhil inshould individual businesses have the right to pick and chose who they serve?
if a muslim decides he won't bake the cake of a radical zionist that says "reclaim the temple in jerusalem" should the government be allowed to punish the muslim baker?
maybe you can help me understand the issues more clearly because were becoming hyper-sensitive and soon your going to need a handbook what's the proper thing to say.

"Refusing to bake a cake with plastic figurines of the same sex on the top is illegal; refusing to bake the same cake with the same sex figurines performing a sex act is legal."
Shouldn't that be the other way around?
Ohhh Myyyy! :)
