  Local Needs Talk Given About My Family

  this week, the local needs talk dealt with showing loyalty to jehovah and his organization.

  the account of achan and his family was discussed.

  because they did not report what achan had done, the entire family was punished by jehovah with death.

  Sounds like you are "marked" minimus. At this point, your name has probably been mentioned among the elders to be on the watch for any clues that you are going to the dark side. But, they will only be forgiving for so long, after that you will get the "silent" treatment. We were marked before we left, too. If you ask me, it just makes it easier to leave for good. Maybe that is why they do this in the first place, so you WILL leave. I know that some of the last meetings we went to were pretty unpleasant. I hope they let you guys fade without a fuss.

  Any Good People left in the Organization

  to me it does not make sense to believe that.

  personally, i know that there are still fine brothers there but that is my personal experience not worth much on a discussion board so reason must be applied, imo.. .

  Mr. Shakita and I still have occasional contact with many "good" witnesses. These were people who we shared births with, deaths with, graduations.....just all the regular stuff friends share with each other. These people were, and still are, good and decent human beings. The problem is not with the people, the problem is with the organization. Some would say that the organization IS the people. I do not agree. The organization is the policies that the people follow. As long as these policies inflict pain and suffering among the "good" people, we will have no part of it.

  Another Df'ing/suicide...in memory of a dear friend...

  things have calmed down again with my mother to the point where i found myself once again in her kitchen last night.

  drinking too many cups of coffee as i always do at her house, i imagine if i were a smoker i'd have been lighting one cigarette after another instead.

  it had been a pleasant enough evening, i sat there with my crocheting in my lap, something i always take with me to my mother's house so that if i get nervous or stressed out, my hands, and my mind, have something to do and somewhere to go.

  I am so sorry Esmerelda. The pain in your words is very evident.

  How many more must die before the org. sees new light? Even IF new light materialized tomorrow and the shunning policy was changed, it still would not wash all the blood off the hands of the WT Organization. They will be stained forever.

  This is EXACTLY why I left the org.

  No matter if the intentions were good to start with, the "organization" has evolved over the decades as another high control so-called religious institution that wields its power over its members through intimidation and threats. Russell was a nut case, but a well intentioned nut case, in my opinion. Those that followed him were hell bent on power, absolute power, and they fall into the category of "great men who are almost always bad men."

  Nice pictures, Shiela. I love all the old photos. I have a lot of old family photos from my Dad's side of the family going back pretty far. I wish that I had old photos of my Mom's side, they were pretty poor and I guess they thought eating was more important than taking pictures.

  An idea for $$$ and a cookbook for Simon's board

  it has been suggested that we have a recipe collection for posters on jwd.. and that idea was taken one step further by suggesting that we make a cookbook with the various recipes provided by the posters here.

  all proceeds from the book would go to simon to help support the board (which would be a lot easier than everyone getting a cut of the "profits".

  it would be pretty easy to get a collection of recipes and make up some cds.. i um have actually edited a cookbook before.

  Sounds like a great idea to me! I am not a very good cook.....my family has been known to hide when I put food on the table... But, I will be first in line to buy one, I can use all the help I can get!

  Terrible cooking does not run in my family....my Grandma was runner up in the Pillsbury 9th Grand National Bake-Off. She had a recipe in the Grand National Recipe Booklet that they publish.....it was for a cake called..."Cocorama Cake"...I personally don't like coconut, so I have never made it myself. Grandma would be ashamed.

  howdy all-.

  mrs. s henderson of kentucky has agreed to give her hand in marriage to me at grayson kentucky on the 24th of may.

  the ceremony will take place at the carter county courthouse at 10 am.. i want to thank all my freinds here for the support, advice and encouragment i have taken away from this forum in the last year.. ~hillbilly ( jeff riley)

  Venting.........uurrgghhh

  today nw and i were out shopping with our two youngest (14,15).. well i got chatting to someone, and then realised that a group of about 20 or so young people had gathered close by, and then the clapping and singing began, and then, each one would take centre stage to shout about the lord!!

  fine, everyone is allowed freedom of speech.. the thing is, today i realised just how angry inside i am regarding all religion, because as i am stood chatting, my two kids are stood behind me, and were being spoken to by one the group, and so i was listening with half an ear, then begged to be excused, as i turned around and explained that really we as a family were jws for 30 odd years, and we have had enough of religion, so kindly back off.

  i returned to chatting, and still this woman continued chatting to our daughter, who has been brought up to be polite, and not to be rude!!!

  They were concentrating on the "young" people because they are more impressionable and naive. All religion is the same, brainwash them while they are young and they are probably "in" for life. Makes me madder than Hell. This kind of gang proselytizing sounds very intimidating and downright scary! I hope your kids are ok...if anyone "grabbed" my kid and starting spouting religious crap, I don't know what I would do! It seems that you and your husband handled the situation very well. I think this "gang" should watch out, the parent of the next kid they "grab" might not be so nice as you guys!
