Makes sense, DUBAI is such a poor, underdeveloped and remote country that a branch office from the UK should look after Dubai........

Hi highline20, so your wife was not very obedient to the organisation when she decided / accepted to marry you, a non-JW, a worldly person .......
I am just teasing.
But I am interested to understand why you decided to date and marry her, knowing she was a JW and why she did the same towards you knowing you are not a JW. In other words, did the fact that she was a JW and you were not play a role? that is basically what I am interested in.
It is pure curiosity. And if you do not want to share that, I can appreciate that as well !! -

Impossible conversation: Jesus and Nicodemus: YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN
by Terry ini am a member on new testament scholar bart ehrman's blog, and the professor is currently outlining a new book he is writing about false memory and the life of jesus.. an interesting post occurred today in which he gives an example of a very famous scripture,.
example of a false memory of jesus teaching i turn to a famous passage in the gospel of john, jesus dialogue with nicodemus (john 3:1-15).
nicodemus is said to be a jewish leader who comes up to jesus and affirms that jesus must come from god because of the great things that he said to have done.

I do not know the background fully other then what I read in John about this.
If the language spoken was Aramaic then what happened is that the capture of the event was translated from Aramaic into Greek. In other words, the conversation happened in Aramaic but Nicodemus did not grasp it fully and was wondering what to do.
In any language, if someone says to you that you "have to be born xxxx" (where xxxx is the Aramaic word Jesus usd and for which in Greek there is word with two meanings, again or from above), is rather confusing.
The same with other expressions, like when you read we need to eat His flesh or drink His blood. Most Jews did not grasp the meaning and felt offended and left.
It does not mean the event did not happen. The confusion is often generated due to translations. Very often languages cannot be translated 1:1 into another language. Because a language originates and develops independently from other languages.
I therefore believe that the event happened and that the original Greek translator had to use a word in Greek that happen to have 2 meanings. Did he choose the right word? Did he really undrstand the original Aramaic word that Jesus and Nicodemus used? Those are problems for the translator not for the original players of the event, nor for the reliability of the event itself.
Technically, I could live with the following translation for this:
.... have to be born again, from above. Both meanings of the Greek word fit here, because, if one needs to be born again, it can only be from above, as physically, it is simply not possible.
And I fully understand the confusion with Nicodemus because if someone would say this to me in Dutch, my mother tongue, where in this case there is not one word that means both again and from above, the use of either would still be very confusing:
...have to be born again is just as confusing as have to be born from above.

If you are a brother, you must be serving as either an elder or a ministerial servant and have been serving as such for the last two years.
AND
You must not have been judicially reproved during the past three years, and five years must have elapsed since reinstatement from a disfellowshipped state. You must not have viewed any type of pornography within the past two years.Ok, the scenario:
- reinstated from a disfellowshipped state (is that a "state"??) say in 2010. But you continue to watch porn.
- In 2013 you are appointed MS or Elder
So, now you review the application and need to consider if you have watched porn within the last 24 months.
If yes, it means you as an elder or ms, you watch porn.
In other words, all ms and elders that do not apply might be guilty for watching porn......

Next time you can say "I am glad you came to my door as this is proof that I am now appointed as the FDS. I prayed for it, asked for the holy spirit to show me proof that I am now the channel through whom God is speaking. And there you are. It must be the hand of Jehovah"

Latest on Otuo v Jonathan David Morely & Watchtower Bible and Tract Society + Otuo v Watchtower Bible & Tract Society
by Adwoa Kromo ina month ago someone inquired about where the case against watchtower in otuo v watchtower was at currently.
firstly the claimant has brought two separate claims against the watchtower .
case 1 relates to a suit in slander premised on the words , "frank otuo is no longer a jehovah witness".

Thanks for sharing. I looked it up: The claimant brought a claim against in the defendant in libel. The defendant belatedly issued an application dated 19 June 2014 to strike out the claim on the footing that the claim form had not been issued within the limitation period, so that the claim was time-barred. The claimant sought to utilise s 34 of the Limitation Act 1980 to disapply the limitation period. The Queen’s Bench refused the application.
But what it overall shows, that the WBTS is far more interested to use any legal option to protect or hide their policies than that they are seeking support for their policies.

Interesting point about elders appointment by holy spirit (apostacy case)
by joe134cd ini was just listening to a jc for apostasy on jwstruggle.
the issue was raised if elders are appointed by holy spirit, then why is there such an issue with sex abuse.
the answer was given (and i thought it was quite true) well jesus was the son of god and he appointed judas under holy spirit, just to have him turn on him.
-
menrov
The answer is correct. Whether one is appointed by holy spirit or not gives absolutely no confirmation of perfection or trust. Therefore, elders or religious leaders are just as human as anyone else and we should only follow Jesus, not men.
ELders or bishops or religious leaders have no authority over the flock, they (must) serve the flock.

Israeli town council cancels Jehovah’s Witnesses event
by Watchtower-Free inhttp://www.haaretz.com/news/national/.premium-1.652440.
anti-missionary group yad l'achim had claimed christians were planning a 'mass baptism' and launched protest campaign in ra'anana.. the raanana municipality has canceled an event organized by the jehovahs witnesses in israel, concerned that the religious groups meeting would hurt the feelings of the public.
the event, which should have been held saturday in the raanana municipal sports center, was canceled following pressure by the anti-missionary group yad lachim.

Freedom of religion also means to except freedom to cancel religious meetings. My freedom should not limit the freedom of someone else. Nor should it harm others.
If an organisation believes the freedom on another group is potentially harmful to others, it has the right to step in and avoid a clash (verbally or physically).
Jews are very sensitive to religious issues, same as muslims. I would not mind when a city council in my country would prohibit an Islamic event for example if there is a risk of conflicts and violence in that city.
