Do " Bad News Religions" Sell Better?

probably you all noticed that when disasters strike, news papers sell better.

the tsunami was a good example.

is it that people love to read bad news rather than good news?

Interesting question.

I think that they don't sell as well as they used to. All major changes in human consciousness happens over a long period of time, but IMHO we are moving into a more peaceful human consciousness.

Fifty years ago most parents thought that negative consequences prevented bad behaviour. Fifty years later most parents know that positive reinforcement prevents it much better.

There will always be people that feel they need to feel superior to others but in general I think the trend is going in the more positive way.

Research on the validity of 1914

here are a few facts that i have recently discovered by doing some research.. the watchtower society uses the date of 539 b.c.e as the date that cyrus took over babylon.

they use the term "absolute date" to define this as an unquestionable point in time.

to do this they had to ignore 586 b.c.e which is the real date for the destruction of jerusalem.. therefore, if jerusalem never lay desolate for 70 years, when does this desolation and fulfillment of this prophecy take place?

Why is scholar not answering me? Can we institute new rules whereby one has to answer questions posed based on one's ridiculous preceding comments? One more try:

You keep arguing the 607 date. IMO, no one can absolutely prove or disprove and even if they could a new theory would be thrown in as to was "jerusalem not symbolically destroyed in 607 after all"?
The questions I have tried to ask you and points that I have tried to make go beyond that. The year 607 is only important in the sense that it leads to 1914, in current JW chronology. Why the fixation on 1914? And could you give me your own personal thoughts as well? I have given you my viewpoint on why 1914 is so important to JW's. I am respectfully asking you to respond or to give me a reason why you choose to not do so?

I miss my kids so much I'm hurting!! :(

That you won't keep your kids from their mom despite what's going on with that side of their family is the sign that you truly love them and are doing what's best for them. Thanks for the encouragement. I do agree that I will win the war, I just hope it is not posthumously.

Also, I have experienced living in a dysfunctional family. As much as I have faith that 10 to 15 years later my true intentions will be revealed, I am also fully aware that it would be best for my kids for them to not have to wait such a long period of time.

Do "they" care?

i attended the meeting today, hoping for some encouraging words.

i arrived while the prayer was in progress, i waited, then found my way to a familiy i enjoy and sat with them.

the speaker was visiting from another congregation.

You know what gets me about that organization? They falsely accuse others of being EXACTLY how they prove that they are.

I have seen the exact same parallel with my ex-wife and her JW family. Just like this elder, they stood up in court and said things completely different from what I had evidence of. Then, without batting an eye, they carried on in the exact same way as they always have.

It seems delusional to me. Are they not even capable of seeing the reality?

What is the significance of 2034? I have heard that date before but I can't recall the "logic" behind it's importance.

IF Jesus existed and his writings and writings of people that followed him are accurate, is it not possible that he meant he was God in the sense that we are all God?

Before people accuse me of not being humble, was his ENTIRE story/life not meant to help humans realize that we are all connected by the same sort of spirit, so be nice to your neighbour because your neighbour is a part of your spirit, just as the rest of the beings in the universe are?

Of course I am not a scholar, though, so I may have no freakin' idea what I am talking about.

it makes you wonder when exactly the governing body and their lawyers decided to change the "generation of 1914" doctrine.

the first quotation below is from the 1992 wt and the second one from the 1993 brochure the purpose of life, just two lousy years before they imfamously dropped the whole idea:

I can imagine how that must have raised some freakin' eyebrows. I think I was too young to notice that one.

To be honest the baptismal questions I swear that the brother was asking me at my baptism talk were:

1) Do you realize that your siblings and friends have all gotten baptised by your age?

2) Have you come to the realization that you will not be respected within the organization, your parents and peers (your whole world) until you also get into that pool and do it yourself?

I may not have heard the questions properly but my answer was as resounding a "YES!!!" as any who may have heard differently than me.

Second: WW1 could NOT have fulfilled Jesus' prophecy, because it didn't produce the right result. The international war that Jesus spoke of has to result in the death of the wild beast (death-stroke). WW1 didn't cause such a death-stroke, simple as that!

What death-stroke is it that you are talking about? Do you care to be more specific about that?

Edited to Add: I did ask you earlier, Schizm, if you only selectively take certain teachings of the WTBTS. You did not respond. I am going to assume that you still agree with the basics, though. Can you let me know which ones you disagree with and what your new thoughts on them are?
