It must be because god is a comedian and enjoys humans arguing over a jumbled book. He must be laughing at us...

What are your beliefs now, religious/non religious?

are you a born again christian?

I often post and simplify my beliefs as atheist. However like Dawkins I am 'a deeply religious non-believer'. I study alot on String and M theory recently and if there is a spiritual journey this is it. This is the ultimate mystery. No god though. I lean perhaps towards Buddhism or Taoism but don't limit myself.

Which Bible Translation
by moreconfusedthanever ini have seen a few comments about the nwt being an altered version of the bible and i must admit that when they released the new one it did not sit right with me.. i want to read the bible but not the nwt.
i also do not want to read one that has the thee and thou and ye etc because that will do my head in.. what translations do you recommend?.

Convention invitations
by dothemath inso everyone is supposed to get all excited about the invitation work starting tomorrow, according to the announcement from the platform.. maybe this makes sense if you're giving out invitations in the city where the convention is, but what if you're many hours away?.
a huge part of western canada is scheduled to attend edmonton alberta this july.
so how does that go over giving out invitations in winnipeg, about a 13 hour drive(that's just driving time).. i know some are actually planning on flying there, so i can't see getting excited about getting the public to make the trek.. i was curious how this is going over in other areas?.

I live on Vancouver island... For anyone to take a car o the convention in Vancouver (the mainland) cost 200$ or so round trip for ferries. Now lets add a hotel. 7000$ is that disgusting city (YES IT IS! The surrounding mountains are paradise but the city is disgusting.) Now lets add food 3 days 100 dollars ... gas.. 50$... Over 1000 dallars to see a religious event...

Lack of open-mindedness
by ilikecheese ina lot of religious folks can have an open-minded discussion about their beliefs without getting defensive.
some can actually consider things from another point of view and point out the validity in the other person's point.
obviously, a lot of jws may just be scared to think/speak in a semi-detrimental way about their religion.

One story Richard Dawkins often tells in his books is the story of a scientist proven wrong after having asserted his theory for years. After the lecture he shook hands with the guy who proved him wrong being happy. ..... Let's see a JW do that!

NWT - revised 1984 vs revised 2013 versions
by Tallon inin the latest 2013 revision the footnote of john chapter 8 states; a number of ancient and authoritative manuscripts omit vs 53 (of chapter 7) to chapter 8, vs. 11.. yet the 1984 revision quotes a similar footnote, however the passage of scripture is included in the text, albeit separately at the bottom.
this passage of scripture is about the scribes and the pharisees who brought a woman that was accused of adultery before jesus to test him on the punishment to be meted out.
then came his famous reply; let the one of you that is sinless be the first to throw a stone at her.. i just found it interesting that the wtbts would leave this out in the latest revision.

Why was this revised? Because in 1950-1960 the guys were perverts
Okay Lev 26: and numerous other texts in the 84 used DOUGY IDOLS
Jerm 5 speaks of horse with strong testicle... not in the text
1 Samuel 14: has Jonathan and his man come out exposing themselves to the Philistines.
Jesus is IMPALED in the 84 version.. I would rather be crucified.. seriously.. that is so sick it's worse then the bible...
In 2 Kings 18 humorously Elijah tells the bad prophets that Baal is shitting...not in the text.
All this has been changed.

As many already know I have spent the last five years trying to solve the mystery of my username.
There are 4 basic schools (J E D P refer to source texts of the torah AND the book up to 2 Kings)
Traditionalists: read the table of book of the bible of the NWT...
Bible Maximalists: Believe is the Documentary Hypothesis believing the earliest versions J came with Solomon later E with Abijah and D with Josiah and P with Ezekiel.
Bible Midianist: A position I took in 2013. Isreal Finkelstien is a Midianist E is around 600 D is still with Josiah and J is in the exile with P with Eziekiel still.
Bible Minimalist: The position I take now with 2 years of reluctance.
To explain my position I will draw a time line
332 Alexander conquers Judea a previously Persian province that likely enjoyed religious freedom
Around maybe 300 a legend goes around Judea pulling up legend form the prophets. The story goes El 's sons married women and gave borth to demigods (Like Cain... compare Genesis 6:1-4 and 4:1) The story did include the Cain Abel story but assuming many people existed already (It is not a creation story) Later Abraham (a legendary name from Detro-Isaiah) as great warrior Genesis 14 establishes Jerusalem as his own kin and Yahweh make a covenant with his. Judah's story (Geneis 38 and his conquest with Simeon Judges 1) are continuations the last section 2 Samuel 21 and 23 are the acts os legendary David (A throne name not a person) is personified and finishes of the giant (greek sources here) that are at the beginning of the story)
My latest theory which fits with all the establish history is SHOCKING to many.
J was likely the so called Greek Septuagint..... 263 BCE or so... It was NOT a translation of the 5 books.. (that's a later tradition) It was likely a 'history of the Jews' The text dives into Babylonian sources using Borrossus translations for Eden, Flood, Babel (many Jews were descendants of Babylon... if you can't figure this one out) the story of J runs from Genesis 2 to 1 Kings 2 ending with Solomon as King and David gets the most history being an Achilles charactor. Samson's Hercules story is here to as are the patriarchs Odyssey lol. Yes this is simple. But Samaritans who worshiped YHWH too did NOT LIKE THIS.
Therefore I place E in their hand in the later 200s;. Moses from J is brought forth using Mathetho.
Some may point out this sort of makes sense but waht about D.. the centralization of YHWH worship
Oh thats the best fit to 164BCE under Judas Maccabee and any moron who read this history can see this family was extremists.
As for P well that is the final editor and would have to be dated around 150-140. Full monotheism and shrine worship. Note that Sirach (written by the grandson in 130 is the FIRST mention of any material from this text.)
No I expect ALOT of backlash. People WANT there to be some preexilic history (There is in some of the prophets and psalms) But I cannot anymore date any text fro, Genesis-2 Kings pre exilic* (Or most of the other books too)
I post this a few weeks before I revise my channel and to get honest opinions (based on science).. (Not from JWs lol)
* I am not referring to the Song of the Sea or Song of Deborah etc...

Would You Outlaw Jehovah's Witnesses If You Had Your Way?
by minimus ini still believe in freedom of religion even if i disagree with the beliefsof the religion.
what about you?.
-
HowTheBibleWasCreated
I agree with freedom of religion.. In you own home. (However sexual or physical abuse of children etc are exceptions to that.) But in the world here... no churches... None.. nada.. let them meet shall groups in home.
If they express an anti-gay or anti g=-government phrase they should be examined or banned as Russia thankfully has doe.
