who is all this money benefiting?
when you have hundreds of millions or billions of dollars there will be someone trying to tap into that.
is it the governing body?

with hopefully a good deal of interest here in the conti appeal tomorrow (or later today, depending on where you are), i thought that on my ride home from work tonight i'd preview what to expect and what i think the key issues are for any who are interested.
i have had a busy few weeks and haven't had time to read everything, but i had some time to look at the appeal briefs during my work commute the past couple days.
it'll be interesting to see what develops out of the network news coverage of this case.
elders assigning a child to work with a known pedophile in field service, is probably unlikely to exist in other cases.
I thought that, but apparently that's exactly what happened in the other case that the WTS just lost to Zalkin. They assigned the pedophile to study (so even worse than going in FS) with the victim since his father wasn't in the cult.
The malfeasance issue seems to be the strongest point the WT has - who remembers who assigned who to work with who in field service last week, let alone 15 years ago?
I'd guess the kid that got raped as a result might remember. The point is sound though, there's not likely to be any clear testimony on this topic and even if there was it would be easy to dismiss due to the time that's passed. I can't think how there'd ever be any hard evidence of such an assignment, either.
Hopefully a precedent will be set and the sharks will begin to circle.

The appeal to consequences (if we evolved/there's no god, then my life has no meaning) seems to be pretty effective at keeping people stuck in silly belief systems, or driving them further in when they feel threatened.
The other day I was bored at the KH and skimmed through the KM. There was a sample presentation for one of the brochures on how life began or whatever and the presentation essentially followed this formula. Ask what the HH believes, read a quote about how empty life is for evolutionists and then explain to them that if they'll believe in fairy tales in the face of all evidence they can be happier.

Very good find. This JW has been struggling a lot during his time in the WT and never really felt comfortable in FS. He has known something was up for a while but probably could not put his finger on it.
I hope he is happier now and out of WT.
If I remember correctly from the previous thread (tried in vain to find it) he was fully awake to TTATT (thus why he'd think to record this conversation) and working on his exit.

Are you serious? Does the fact that a Catholic is willing to overlook the faults in his own religion make it right for a Jehovah's Witness to ignore the faults in his own religion?
My point was that this effectively shows their hypocrisy - an unwillingness to act on evidence that they don't have the truth, but they won't recognize the validity of the same excuse used by someone of another faith.

But even Darwin admitted that it was absurd in the highest degree to think that the eye could've evolved through natural processes!

That scripture actually always bothered me when it came to a lot of things that JWs did. The other one that always bothered me regarding time reports was the bit where David took a census of his army and god killed a bunch of people as a result (that one also bothered me since David had done the crime, but it was other people that god punished, but that's neither here nor there).
This was a good video for showing just how much control the cult will try to exert, and how little room there is for individual conscience. The proper reaction from the elders would've been to say something like "well, ok if it bothers your conscience then you certainly shouldn't do it." and let that be that.

Can't watch right now, but is this the same one that was posted a while ago - guy says he's not turning in time anymore because (primarily) of the scripture about not praying in the streets like the pharisees do because they're getting their reward in full?
