This could actually end up being good in the long run. If someone is arrested for making "false accusations" they'll get their day in court and will actually be allowed to prove that they're right. Maybe even getting testimony from higher-ups from the local branch forced to admit that they hide known molesters.

Has anyone actually read the study wt for sun nov 2nd????!!!
by stuckinarut2 ino m g...(yes that is a very childish reaction...but i couldn't think of a more appropriate expression!).
if you haven't yet read it...please do so..... it is so ridiculous!
so leading, so distorted, and full of "bait and switch" techniques.. "prove you have the truth"..by seeing how neutral witnesses were in war times?

BU2B posted a pretty good review of the article a few days ago (I'm on my phone....perhaps someone else will be kind enough to link to it)
You hit it on the head though -its one long bait and switch. The title asks one question, then the article answers a bucnch of questions no one was asking. Then the end (by the time everyone's tired and ready to go home) it just asserts the answer to the original question without any evidence, and indeed even presumes to tell us how we feel about the matter - it doesn't say we should be convinced, it just says we (you) are convinced you have the truth. It implies that you can't be a jw if you have doubts.

Singapore: The Religious consequences of Tim Cook coming out as gay
by fulltimestudent inas if we needed any further evidence that the minds of christians are not all that they should be, the shenagins in the christian segment of the christian segment of the singapore population once again demonstrated that each time they fart, they blow some of their brains away, and sadly they fart so much that there's not much brain left.. i guess most people have heard that time cook (boss of apple) publically stated this week that he was gay and proud of it.
in most of the western world, it barely caused a ripple, but not so in singapore where christians are always lobbying the government against sin.. but, tim cook as a gay man provoked the ire of the singaporean church leadership.. i have not heard that anyone claimed that using an apple iphone would make you gay, but prominent church leader lawrence khong, was commissioned as an apostle by dr. peter wagner, of the international coalition of apostles, in 2000. .
on hearing the news about tim cook, lawrence khong stop using iphone and even denounced technology altogether.

Wait, what? I thought he was publicly known to be gay well before he even took over as CEO of Apple.

Jwleaks (where I was getting my KMs for my ipad) got the ball rolling and instilled a few doubts. Jwfacts was what woke me up, though.

Thanks Barbara. I knew there had to be more to this case than the judge just up and ordered the WTS to pay without them having a chance to defend themselves.
When I read this bit:
and rehashed the same arguments over and over, even after they had been rejected
I thought to myself "yup, that sounds about right"

Since The Bible Sponsors Disciplining Your Children Do JWs Say It Is OK Spank A Child?
by minimus inis it ok to spank your kids?
is it ok to discipline them using any force?.
.
-
OneEyedJoe
I think they've recently relaxed their encouragement of spanking by saying that "using the rod" means to use it like a shepard to guide or pull the sheep so they know which way to go, not necessarily beating them.
On the other hand, as soon as a baby starts crying at a meeting, you'll hear dozens of comments afterwards that the parent needs to beat the kid.
I don't have kids, so I'm not going to judge parents one way or the other...

I just posted my random thought of the day about this on another thread. It seems like a good idea since people are more likely to open up! They always bother people on christmas morning and thanksgiving, why not actually do it when people expect a knock on the door?
I never did it (or any of the holiday preaching). It always felt tacky to try to usurp a day that they'd otherwise enjoy and force people to shoo us away. Even thinking as a JW it seemed like it would be counter productive as people are going to be annoyed by your presence, and therefore less likely to talk even if you catch them later at a better time.

$13.5 million to a San Diego man
by truthseekeriam inhttp://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/135m-awarded-to-bible-teacher-gonzalo-campos-alleged-abuse-victim-jose-lopez-281031832.html#.
the national organization for jehovah's witnesses was ordered to pay $13.5 million to a san diego man who says he was abused as a child by his bible teacher.
nbc 7's rory devine reports on oct. 30, 2014.

There definitely seems to be some conflicting information. First off, if it where a settlement there would be no appeal because the WTS would've had to agree to it. It seems as though there was a ruling by a judge that the WTS intends to appeal. At the very least, though, it's a lot of bad publicity tied to the name "Jehovah's Wittnesses."

My random thought on the topic of halloween - why don't JWs go out and do not-at-homes on halloween?
JWs hate all the kids who come by their house on halloween, so that'd be a great way to get out of the house so you don't have to deal with all that, plus people who'd normally avoid you would gladly open the door for someone who they assume is wearing a JW costume!
They insist on doing "special meetings for field service" on christmas, thanksgiving and other holidays, so why not halloween?
