Why should I believe the Bible?
by wobble ini don't ask for myself, but my son said last night that he sees no reason to take any notice of a book written by men over many centuries.. could the believers on here give me some ammunition to shoot across his bows to at least get him to consider the bible's merits?.
i am familiar with the arguments against he bible, and my son is familiar with the wt defense of the bible and is not convinced.. thanks in advance,.
love.

I recall something similar being said a few years ago.
They brought those two "young" guys onto the GB and with the increase in the "anointed" they will have plenty to choose from.

What constitutes adultery for the WTS?
by iknewit ini was an elder many years and only sat in on one case of marital infedilty.
since there was a confession in this instance.
we didn't need to know anything about the "act" (and none of us really wanted to know).

I had a quick serch and found this from Watchtower 15th December, 1983
*** w83 12/15 27 When a Mate Is Unfaithful *** In such a situation, Jesus’ words on the subject have to be taken into account: “I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery.” (Matthew 19:9) What does this mean? That fornication (which in the Bible sense includes adultery and gross sexual immorality such as homosexuality) canbreak up a marriage. Scripturally, the innocent partner has the right to divorce the guilty one and remarry without sin in God’s eyes.
Blondie posted above a QFR from 1972, that was a year after I became a JW. I recall about 2-3 years later that a sister in our Hall divorced her husband because he turned out to be homosexual.
Blondie also said
Actually, no sex has to take place at all, all that has to happen is that 2 people of the opposite sex (not married to each other) stay overnight unchaperoned and it is witnessed by 2 people preferably jws.
Also the experience of the sister who stayed with boyfriend and in same bed.
When I was young 19/20, at District conventions in a hotel, usually with another young JW brother who was a great friend.
We were tohave a room with twin beds. But there was a wrong booking and we got a room with a double bed. We thought rather than make a fuss we would take it. As we had shared rooms before we were used to seeing each other "undressed". So for those three nights we had the room we slept together. We never mentioned to anyone that this was what we were doing.
So in light of what was said above if word had got out would we have been accused of being homosexual or not.
I've always had the thought over the years that the other brother booked a double bed deliberately. Maybe he was expecting something more. Looking back he may just have got something more, who knows , in different circumstances.

Very interesting on "How it should be done". But in my old congregation in was a case of the Elder who was supposed to co-ordinate public speakers. He would get the outlines and just give them out to who he saw fit or was available on the date.
I remember after one public talk. The Elder said to the speaker "That wasn't the one you were supposed to give"
The speaker a respected Elder said "I know but I didn't like it so did a different one."

What Would Jesus Say to You and the Governing Body?
by AllTimeJeff inwould you be a jehovah's witness if you just read the bible by itself?
for that matter, without the aid of any religious influence, would one be apart of any religious group or body because of a specific mandate within the bible?
i realize this is at least a tricky and controversial question, best answered by the individual doing the reading of the bible.

As Augustine said:
"If keep the parts of the Gospel you like and reject the parts of the Gospel you don't like.
Then its not the Gospel you believe, but yourself."

What are your opinions of Alex Jones and/or David Icke?
by easyreader1970 ini supposed only people who know who they are and have read, heard, or listened to them at some point can answer.
they are fairly popular (at least on the internet) conspiracy theorists.
(and everyone loves a good conspiracy theory!!).

Someone writes a book about Summeriam tablets written 6000 yrs ago.
That tell us we were created by, and are slave workers for the Nibiru
That this is a documented as it is about Washing or Napoleon
""That is how you react to someone who tells you the truth and tries to wake you from
your slumber.
Read the 12th planet by zecharia Sitchin
Read the Gods of Eden by William Bramely.
Then come back and post your opinions.""
But you laugh at Christians who believe in a book written 2-3000 yrs ago.

Worship God? Please explain......
by AK - Jeff inperhaps there are wide variations in opinion as to what is constituted 'worship'.
but why would an omnipotent, omniscient, all encompassing, self-fulfilled being need worship from lowly human beings?.
now, those who don't believe in god or any higher being, please don't turn this into a slamfest of insults against others who do believe.
-

Maybe you should begin by asking "What is Worship?"
It doesn't necessarily mean bowing down to someone.
adoration , adulation, devotion, honour, love, praise, regard, respect, reverence, service
admire, adore, extol,
Things that I even give my wife, does that mean she is a God? (no remarks please)
Or don't your children regard you in any of those ways.

without even wondering how sealife -- even such humongous creatures as whales -- could survive such brutal chaos and destruction.
Well life has supposed to have survived this earth being hit by an asteroid 65 million years ago and destroying all the dinosaurs.
Also supposed to have been volcanic eruptions all over the world , which sorted other life out .
I think life could survive a few days of rain.
