For example, if he was demoted due to one of his children(who are still under him) being DF'd or is no longer "exemplary".
We had an Elder whose daughter was pregnant before marriage to her Min Servant boyfriend.
He also had a son (Min Servant) who was caught smoking cannabis, and who later ran off and married a lap dancer.
Another son got publicly reproved.
Another daughter was reproved for "fornication" with her soon to be husband.
(Seemed the trend in the congregation that once they were engaged to marry they might as well start having sex)
This Elder only only "stepped down" years after the above events , when he was caught - Smoking!
Then returned a year later, mainly I heard because they were losing Elders.
I know of two Elders who committed adultery, disfellowshipped, divorced, remarried.
Both reinstated within a year, both returned to being Elders after another year.
But you can bet if some poor rank and file member did the same thing they would be out for years.

Did You Ever Secretly "Sin" & The Elders Never Knew About It?
by minimus inwe, as elders, would every so often give a little talk about keeping the congregation clean and that if anyone felt the need to talk to us, to get whatever is bothering them off their chest, we would be readily available to them.
you'd be shocked to see how many would tell us some naughty things they were feeling guilty about.. i'm sure there were plenty of smart people who simply kept quiet and didn't say a word.. here's your opportunity to tell us what you wouldn't tell them..

It used to make me laugh when such talks came up about "keeping the congregation clean".
If they even knew half about what went on in the congregation they would go into shock.
Funnily, in all the time I was there, the only two girls in the congregation who were pregnant before marriage were both the daughters of Elders.
Another thing was that I wouldn't trust telling an Elder anything. Because I know from experience how a couple of the Elders would
gleefully like to tell what some brother/sister had told them. One Elder was known for telling his wife everything that went on at Elders meetings, or on Judicial Committees he had been on.
As one old Elder, only one of two I really trusted, once said to me "To some Elders the words "in confidence" have no meaning , they have big mouths."

Oct.15th WT- " Wanna Be Jesus Friend? Have to Support the Faithful Slave"
by flipper inunder the study article " you are my friends " ( indicating jesus naturally by his quote ) the wt society makes it very clear that the only way to be jesus friend is to come through them or else you won't be approved by jesus or god.
translation : friendship with jesus = treating the " faithful slave " kindly = jesus approving you.
our jw relatives will be studying this in december at their meetings.. under the subheading on pg.

If someone is my friend I don't show that friendship by going through a third party.

Do YOU Consider Persons Who Fornicate As Being "Immoral"?
by minimus inif we were to accept the bible's view, anyone having sex with someone other than their spouse would be considered "immoral".
do you still accept that point of view?.

If it isn't "immoral" why do so many do it secretly?
If its a husband or wife I would say yes, because you have given a promise and commitment that there will be no one else.
Unmarried people, living together etc, I don't look on as immoral.

Do the elders really care if you fake your service time?
by JimmyPage inthe bottom line for them it seems is to keep their superiors happy (i.e., the co).
so as long as people report time, it makes the elders look good.
do any elders actually care if it's real or not?

I often heard our Service Overseer when gathering reports at the KH.
He would say to elderly sisters, who may not have done anything "Just put a couple of hours down, it keeps the records looking good."
I knew a brother who often put down he did 20 hours a month. Yet he was rarely seen out on service.
Another brother often reported placing 40+ magazines. Till it was discovered all he did was post them through peoples doors.
A brother in the group I was in would drive 20 mins to meet us, do 20 mins on doors, drive 20 mins back home. Then claim he had done an hours service.
Here's a point if two JWs working together on the doors, spend an hour working a road. How much time have they spent in Field Service?
They have only spent an hour, both doing the same doors. They have only done one hours FS, yet each will report an hour so on the records in will be that two hours FS has been done.

IF it is NOT wise for a man to be ALONE with a woman he's NOT married to
by Spike Tassel insola scriptura answered andersonsinfo:.
the wt leadership has hammered into all of it's elders and rank & file's heads, that it is not wise for a man to be alone with a woman he is not married too (adult or young woman... ie 14).
even in congregation sanctioned duties.. so, why, then, do so many service pairings involve just that: a brother alone in the territory (even if it's to make a call) with a sister he's not married to?.

Going back to this original point.
As to this point about man and a woman being alone with each other , being "hammered" into Elders and R&F JWs.
I never came across it in my congregation, the view of the Elders was, as one said "If you are good servants of Jehovah, then you will behave yourself."
I often was on field service with the girl who became my wife, and occasionally with other sisters.
The view with that was if you are FS then, unless you are going to sneak off somewhere, what are you going to get up to.
I often spent time alone with my girl at either her home or mine.
Also I often visited sisters in their homes, I've known Elders on their own, make shepherding calls on lone sisters.
But as I say this was my congregation, whose Elders, by the way, were real Watchtower men.
What I have learnt over the years is that congregation to congregation can vary greatly.
A small example, in my congregation, brothers could wear any colour shirt, and patterned ties.
In another congregation nearby brothers could only wear white shirts and plain ties.
What one allows another may not, yet they are supposedly following the same rules.
Even with Circuit Overseers I found that one will say "Do this" then the next one will say "Don't do that"
I have been away within the UK, and visited other congregations. Some have been very formal, others vary informal.
One I remember I went to the group study, brothers turned up in T-shirts, or shirts with no tie.
The Elder taking the group sat on the sofa with his two young children, wearing an open necked shirt, no tie.
My wife was horrified by it all you wouldn't dare turn up like that at our group back home.
Also in the years I have been reading experiences on this forum and others.
I have noticed that American congregations seem to be more uptight about "rules" than British ones.

Why the JWs must get EVERYTHING right
by bluecanary insome feel that it is enough for the witnesses to understand a few major doctrines correctly.
whatever doctrines are important to you--trinity, hellfire, the soul, etc--if the jws are in agreement with your own beliefs on the subject, is that enough to make them a religion worth being a part of?.
the society is fond of using the illustration of a beautifully prepared, tasty and nutritious meal.

JWs don't believe in the Trinity , but they try to prove that Jesus is Michael with no basis in scripture.
"Theres no scripture that says God is a Trinity" they will say.
There is no scripture saying "Jesus is Michael" but they believe that.

Ordained Ministers of J.W. part 1
by bobld inbaptisms are usually performed at assemblies.at the conclusion of the baptism talk, the baptism candidates are asked two q.affirmative answers qualifies the candidates as ordained ministers of j.w..we all have seen some candidates as young as 13 years, some as young as 12 years and even some as young as 9 years old.now in the eyes of the wbts these are qualified ordained ministers.. to my way of thinking these ordained ministers should be qualified to give sound advise or council.example,a 17 year old teenage boy has a problem with masturbation and is seeking advise.do you think he would receive sound advise on his masturbation problem from a 9 year old ordained minister of j.w.
(girl).in other religions this ordained minister would be qualified but i don't think a j.w.
is.. bob.

I would like to see a reply by Rennia to the video that Gordy put up about the Watchtower and Child Baptism.
But that would all depend on whether she will watch it.

I do believe that I follow the established guidelines of the WTS, as I understand them.
Watchtower guidelines can change on the whim of the GB. Its not how you understand them its what the WT tells you they are.
Besides what about the guidelines set down in the Bible.
"But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," Matt 5:43-45
"And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself." Matt 22:39
"But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked." Luke 6:35
One for the Governing Body
"for they loved praise from men more than praise from God." John 12:43
