seem to have a real problem reconciling that with historians.

unfortunately in brooklyn it seems that nobody knew about this, so once, much to the embarassment of the local branch that was upholding the rule, a wt issue came up that had on one page a pic of a sister preaching who wore just that kind of skirt; and on another page a pic of a witness party with a sister sitting on a sofa whose skirt covered her shoes.

The fact that it was an "unwritten rule" is probably why Brooklyn didn't know about it. They are only concerned with rules they make.
Why were long skirts so bad? In Britain many sisters wore long skirts as it was deemed more modest.
i first noticed that no scriptural discussion of the choice is made, so it all appears to be solely the decision of the signatory.. when choosing alternatives of treatment, the witless merely initials his choice under clauses 3 and 4. since this simply indicates choice, full signature and witness are not required.. .

They may find it a bit more difficult in the UK. The Data Protection Act here is pretty tough.
I even have trouble getting to see my own records never mind someone else trying to.

We had an Elder in our congregation who's kids seem to get away with all sorts.
One daughter was pregnant when she got married. She and the guy were just "reproved".
A younger daughter was known to be having sex with her guy. Common knowledge. No one said a word.
Oldest son caught using cannabis, on the same day it was announced he had become a Min Servant. He had already been "reproved" a couple of times beforehand for other things. He went off and married a non-JW. Came back as if nothing had happened.
The Elder himself was removed having been caught smoking.
Another Elders son was caught smoking and disfellowshipped. This Elder resigns in protest at the double standard.
A brother who was a good friend of mine developed depression, attempted suicide. The elders answer to this was to have his wife throw him out of the family home. Eventually he left the JW's and disassociated.
But I know of others in congregation who also suffer from depression. Sisters who are knocking back the Prozac and Valium like anything.
A couple of members who are alcoholics, often found drunk at home.
A married brother who was a pioneer and Min Servant, who twice had affairs with women on his window cleaning round. DF'd -reinstated, DF'd - reinstated.
All those who got away with either a reproof or ignored. Where related to Elders either in our congregation or others.

Hey! the number of JW's who I know who went to see it. Plus the number of JW's I know have read the book.
Couple of years ago I lent my copy to the son of the Presiding Overseer, he was about 25. His father the PO said it was the first time he had seen his son read a book right through.
I was introduced to LOTR when I was 15, I've read it practically every year since, I'm now 55.
A couple of Saturdays ago I spent the day watching the three films (extended versions) again.

i brought a printer and it has just gone faulty on me, but it was a few days after the 28 days that pc world say i am entitled to take the product back.
they told me that i was not able to take the item back, and that i would have to call cannon and get them to come out and sort it.
Sale of Goods Act states that if a product does not do the job its supposed to with in 12 months then it can be taken back.
PC World saying you only have 28 days to do so is illegal.

Wanting to check out his sources I realised that not once has he told us what they were.
He use that Watchtower trick of saying "the evidence says" "the facts tell us" "sources tell us" without actually telling us what the source of the information was.

actually, in 1975 there were 2,179,256 active jehovah's witnesses.
I became a JW in 1971 there was about 1,750,000 then if I remember rightly.. Used to feel good as watched it grow. Its been hovering arounf the 6m to 6.25m for a while now.
