Witness 007
I would have felt the same way. I wonder how their kids felt about it all. I wouldn't be surprised a few years from now those kids won't be JW's. Then how much will all that "sacrifice" be worth.
i wen't to the district convention 2 years ago, the talk was on "sacrifices," a pioneer couple were interviewed by the c.o.
they had pioneered for many years with two kids, the dad worked part time.
they explianed how money was "tight" for them many times.

when i was an elder, i commonly got in my ( required) minimum of ten hours a month.
typically, i put.
in a lot of time door to door.
A subject that has come up often on here.
Apart from the early days as a JW when I was eager. I don't think in all the years as a JW I actually put in the correct report time and placements.
I've heard the Service Overseer when the reports were due telling brothers/sisters who hadn't reported, "just to put something down" on a slip. The prestige of the congregation came before whather any report was true. Keep the Circuit Overseer off the Elders backs.
As mentioned above how much time is actuallt spent !talking" to anyone on the doors.
I have watched JW's work the opposite side of the street were I live. Out of approx 50 houses they may have got to speak for about 30 seconds each , with 3-4 people. An hours work for 2 minutes talking.
I often wonder also about "counting time". If two JW's spend an hour working a street then each puts a report in claiming an hour each. The the WT will say two hours of "preaching" will have been done. When in reality only an hour was .

Even tried typing in the link.
i asked my jw friend3 weeks ago this--- if all people came from adam and eve, and there is no such thing as evolution, then where did african ppl come form (or the chinese or whatever).
he never could answer.. the other question is : if no one has met jehovah, how do we know his name-don't give me it's in the book answer, because god didn't write the scriptures, right?
also god is referred to as he.
You make fun of the Adam and Eve story.
But isn't that what basically evolutionists tell us.
Watching one of those documentaries the scientist says "Well if we can trace our DNA etc, back we would find that we all descended from the same female.
That we all came from a common ancestor that came out of the African plains about 4-5 million years ago.
So how did evolution come up with all the different races?
my mom told me that the elders spent a lot of time in the service meeting expressing the need for donations.
they showed that area congregations were even remodeling their halls yet they weren't even covering needed expenses in their own hall for utilities!
within the same pep talk evening, they read a letter from the society thanking them for the congregation's $200 donation!
It always used to puzzle me that money we sent to Bethel for Kingdom Hall Fund (for building new or renovating KH). When we asked for funds to build a new KH. They gave is a loan from the fund, at 6% interest. So our own money we gave them , was loaned back to us plus interest. Which they probably made interest on keeping it in the bank.
As others have said they boast about "no collections" at meetings. Yet ask for money and have boxes for this and that.
Every month there would be the accounts report read out at the service meeting.
"Brothers/Sisters we need to meet the needs of the congregation. It was difficult to pay the latest gas/electric bill. So please think of your obligations to the congregation. (pause) We sent £250 to the worldwide work, £130 to Kingdom Hall fund, £100 towards Circuit Assembly, £100 to cover Circuit Overseers expenses."
Thats why I stopped donating anything.
back in my dub days, i used to make copies of all the old recorded talks i could get my hands on.
in the process i was surprised to come across several talks in which the "faithful slave" tried to make the case that all the scriptures talking about the "heart" were not figurative, but referred to one's literal heart--the organ itself!
as i recall, they even incorporated some pseudo-scientific quotes as "proof" that the heart could effect your thoughts and motivations.
There have been many cases where a person has had a heart transplant. Then started to have the same dislikes and likes as the donor.
A TV program looking into the subject showed how people who had transplant started to either to like to do things they didn't before. Started to like foods they hated before the transplant. But on investigation it was shown that the donor from where the heart came from either like to do those things and liked those foods.
They just look like they are.
shouldn't it be going down but fast?
god, how old are they, anyway?
do new ones keep popping up or something?
well they increased by 234 last year. ??
i recall i was in service with ken little, the canadian branch committee overseer, and he took the first door.
the magazines were talking about nuclear war and its impending disaster.
so ken little introduces himself and says "good morning sir,did you know that every minute they spend millions of dollars on the manufacturing of weapons......" the homeowner looks straight at him and says "yeah?
Every time I tried to use the presentations in the Kingdom Ministries or the Reasoning Book. For some reason, the responses I got in the real world were far different than what the Watchtower fantasy camp prepared me for.
Too true,
How many times have we watched those "demonstrations" at the KH. On how to present the months offer etc. Never did they deal with the negative attitude that we all knew we would face. No "householder" ever raises an objection, they all took literature as if they had been waiting for it.
Thats why when a householder raised a point, you were lost. You had been "programmed" to deal with no objections, when one was raised you short circuited.
I was 17 and living in Honolulu, my friend and I went to an apt door and this drop dead beauty opens the door stark naked and she stood there and listened to the whole dribble
I bet that was the longest presentation you ever did. Bet you took it real slow.
i just unfortunately came back from the jw convention and ive only heard their side of the story i know that they use mind control tactics but i need to know what is wrong with there doctrines biblically.
i took a king james bible and seemed like what the were saying about the bible was true.
im never going to try going back to that religion again but i need to know that the only thing wrong with their religion isnt the mind control tactics they use.
thx i mainly need to know if the stuff they said about the trinity was true cause i cant find it in the bible
One of the reasons I became a JW was because they didn't teach the Trinity.
Then over the years I realised that it was in the Bible. If you look for it.
I even had two Elders show me scriptures that proved Jesus was God.
