According to the JWs isn't the tree that is cut down and the stump banded represent "Jehovahs kingdom" removed from the earth. That this is were they get they 2,520 years to 1914 when Jesus returned and re-established the "Kingdom" though invisibly.

My Mother-in-law wa an "inactive JW" had been for about at least a couple of years. Which was due to an illness which meant that she could not walk any distance without the need for oxygen. When she died the Elders agreed to have the funeral at the Kingdom Hall. Then two days before the funeral they changed their mind and said that the KH could not be used. The family had to rush around to find somewhere to hold the funeral. Eventually it was held in a local community hall. But an Elder still gave the funeral talk. Which hardly mentioned her, but was used to promote JW teaching on death and resurrection, to the non-JW family members.

the mark of the beast?
by candidlynuts inthis is a bbc story regarding rfid tags from saturday.. sorry if it is a repost... .
supermarkets have already brought everything under the sun under one roof, and along the way been accused of denuding the high street of butcher, baker and candlestick-maker.
now they are introducing a new technology that some say threatens a fundamental invasion of our privacy.

Its nothing new.
There are already many things capable of doing the same.
mobile phones, sat-nav, can be followed by the systems they use.
mobile phone companies keep records of all numbers you have called and from where.
Some sat-nav makers now record each trip you use it for, and can be passed on to the authorites if requested.
The computer you are reading this on can be found out which ISP server it is using. Maybe one day they will even be able to find out where you are using it from.
There isn't much left that cannot be used to track you down.

Jan KM question box
by carla inthe question is- what two publications should be studied with interested ones?

This reminds me of the story of a guy being called on by a JW (some may know this)
JW : We would like to offer you a free Bible study.
Guy: Thats nice. Would like to study the Bible
JW : We can study this XXX book.
Guy: Yes after we study the Bible
JW: Then we can study this XXX book.
Guy: Yes after we study the Bible
JW: Then maybe we could also study this XXX book.
Guy : Yes we can that after we study the Bible.
JW: Just what have you against studying this books?
Guy: What have you against studying the Bible?

"If 1000 years is as one day" (another "ug" fwd email)
by inkling inif 1000 years is as one day someone did the math of the 1000 years = one day equation (2 peter 3:8).. .
this is interesting: since a thousand years are in the eyes of jehovah as one day, we can look at history from jehovah's point of view like this:.
adam was created six days ago and jehovah made immediate plans to restore what he had lost for his offspring.. .

What about the scripture in Psalm 90:4
"For a thousand years in your sight
are like a day that has just gone by,
orlike a watch in the night." Ps 90:4Here a thousand years are said to "be like" a day, not are. Or a thousand years could be like a "watch in the night"
Now there are about 4 watches in the night from 6pm to 8am. Does this mean that a day with God is four thousand years long?
The one on 2 Peter 3:8 is the often quoted one
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends:
With the Lord a day is like a thousand years,
and a thousand years are like a day. 2 Pet 3:8All these scriptures are doing is saying that time to God is relative. If He wants to call a thousand years a day or a watch in the night a thousand years thats up to Him. Time to Him means nothing.

The Times - Churches braced for flood of abuse claims after landmark ruling
by besty inbasically there was a 6 year time limit after which a claim would go 'stale' and could no longer be brought to the courts - this has now been overturned..... http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/law/article3279532.ece.

It must be remembered that all the Law Lords have done is say that a person can now sue after what was six years.
The woman in question has yet to take the man to court under a Civil action in an attempt to get any compensation.
If the man in question has a good lawyer they may say something along the lines. That he came into the money while serving a prison sentence for the crime. He was therefore already being punished for the crime. To grant the claim for compensation could be a second punishment. Also that he came into the money while serving his punishment, therefore is not part of any crime that was committed before he was sent to prison.
But if a person sues an "organisation/church/local authority" under this ruling they could have a better chance of winning. As the "organisation" is an on going thing and still in operation.
It will be interesting to see any test cases that come about because of this ruling.

In a local congregation the young son of an Elder was known among the young ones as the "child molester" but nothing was done about him.
Then suddenly the family upped and moved away, they moved about 200 miles away down South.
Last I heard was that the son, by now about 20, had married a woman with a four year old son. Six months later she threw him out and filed for divorce.

We had an occasion in our local library where Mormons were taking books that were critical of the LDS.
