Public Talk & Bookstudy Changes - the real reason
by bud2114 ini havn't been able to keep up with all the discussion in this forum as to why the gb has suddenly decided to implement these changes and perhaps someone has mentioned this already, but to me the most obvious reason has nothing to do with control, or money.
it has everything to do with the serious shortage of qualified brothers who can (or who are willing to) be used.
i have been involved in the organzation for 40 yrs and i have never seen the level of apathy and disillusionment among those serving in some capacity in this organization.

I've quickly gone through the posts above and agree with most of them
In my old congregation the last I have heard they are down to 4 Elders, may be up to 6 now. But there was 9 when I left 6 years ago. When I first became a JW and they brought in the Elder arrangement, we had at one time 12 Elders.
The Elders back then were really "Elders" in age. They had been JWs for 40-60 years. They were guys who had their heads screwed on. They were kind and caring men. In all the time they were Elders we never had one disfellowshipping.
Then as time went on and they started to die off, four in the space of a couple of years. They were replaced by younger men 30-40 years old. These were guys who "enjoyed" the position and power. All they cared about was that they loooked good and "spiritual" especially when the CO came. They were Watchtower men basically. Funny thing is that 3 of them have resigned in the past couple of years. With one it was a case of "jump or be pushed" over he got caught smoking.
One reason I thought many Elders could be standing down and no one coming in to replace them. Is that they have found out that if anything goes wrong in congregation say like a paedophile issue. They have found that the organisation dumps the problem on them, and distances itself from them. Even though they were carrying out WT policy. No one wants that to contend with.
Especially on top of so many JWs are leaving, or starting to ask awkward questions, that even the Elder has no answer to.
The internet is 15 years old this month. In that time it has certainly done some damage to the Watchtower.

Anyone heard this one about Home Studies??
by aniron ini picked this up on another forum the poster said the following.. i was also told by a witness at the door that they are no longer doing real home bible studies with new 'suckers'.
instead they are doing 'doorstep studies' because everyone is 'so busy'.
in other words they can't get anyone to let them in for an hour so they now call their little 'preach and runs' bible studies.

I know they used to say if you called back on a person, say with the magazines, after 2-3 times you could count it as a "study"
But not heard anything that they are cutting down on actual "home studies"
Come to think of it the emphasis on "getting a study" seems not to be mentioned as much.
Anyone any thoughts on this?

I was present for the reading of that letter and found posts here talking very negatively about the letter. One said the letter stated that there is concern about lack of attention to JW families... about brothers and sisters leaving the truth...about families coming unprepared to meetings. ...........Those statements were not in the letter at all. I knew what I had heard, but couldn't understand how this person could have heard something different. There hadn't been anything sinister about the contents - in fact, it had a very positive tone - ...
The letter said :
In effect, the changes in the weekly program will allow us to strengthen the spirituality of the family, devoting one night to Family Worship. Family heads must assume the responsibility that Jehovah has given to them of leading their households in a significant weekly study of the Bible. (Deuteronomy 6:6, 7) And single brothers and sisters who do not have family responsibilities should use this time for their personal study of the Bible. It is essential to be "buying out the opportune time" and to strengthen one another as we consider the events that are soon to occur. (Ephesians 5:15, 16) The day of Jehovah is indeed approaching rapidly. (Zephaniah 1:14; 2 Peter 3:12) So it is more urgent than ever that we make use of the time that remains to build up one another upon our "most holy faith." (Jude 20)
Obviously "possibilities" has not yet come to know "Watchtower-Speak"
Those of us who have spent years as JWs know what can be read between the lines.
The fact that "Family Worship" is mentioned is an indication that they KNOW that most families are NOT doing it.
"single brothers and sisters ...should use time for personal study of the Bible" in other words get off that computer looking at JWD etc, stop thinking for yourself.
"buying out time .... strengthen one another" - many are leaving the truth because of what they are learning.
Once you know how the WT phrases things then you can see between the lines.

It has been said on this board before on threads dealing with mind control " cults " - that when they see they are losing membership , or bad media attention happens , " child abuse scandals " , less meeting attendance - cults go in to overdrive in " control mode " to control and become even more dictatorial with rank and file members so as not to lose their power over these people. If you notice - especially since the November announcement of the child abuse scandals , just before this announcement it was starting as well.
A non-JW friend of mine who has been following the Watchtower saga for a while. Wondered if the WT was going the same way as the Exclusive Bretheren.
For brief overview on the EB check here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/christianity/subdivisions/exclusivebrethren_1.shtml
He wondered could the WT be closing ranks making members cut down on contacts with the outside world.
Making itself an "Exclusive" organisation. Becoming careful on who they admit into the congregations.
Being selective in who they preach to. Telling JWs to "target" people they thing would become a JW.
Of course they will pass it off as preparing for "the end" that only those who really want the "Truth" are admitted into the Ark.

Reasons for change in meetings and book study
by JWRESEARCH inthere were already a few topics and posts about the motifs behind the changes, but i think we can unite them all in just one topic.. for a start i will say thar the letter that is going to be read next weekend, says that gb wants to reduce the burden (quotes acts 15:28), and adds that in many countries the gas (petroleum) is at a very high cost for some families.
then it makes a suggestion to use the same day for study at home with family.. of course that the text of hebrew 10:25 is not quoted!
- if we are more close to the end it should be taken the opposite measure!.

I think they are running out of BROTHERS to RUN those bookstudies
Interesting point. In my old congregation before I left there was 9 book groups. Now there are 6.
This could be because in the past couple of years 3 Elders resigned.
Also numbers have dropped when the group was at my house we would at the peak get 30 people, it was 20-25 before I left. Now I hear that that same group is down to 8 people.

Superstition in Your Congregation
by WTWizard inwe all know that the witlesses claim to not be superstitious.
after all, they will walk under the ladders and cross the paths of black cats without flinching.
when i was in, i would often go out of my way to go under unoccupied ladders (i do not recommend walking under occupied ladders, because someone might drop something and hit you in the head).

Now, I have seen many a superstition of a different kind. Once I saw the "brother" at the littera-trash counter refuse to open a box of littera-trash, and I saw a "sister" flinch big time. Not a newbie, but a full time pioneer that had been in the cancer a good many years! Afraid that Jehovah would strike the "brother" dead for refusing to do his job. Needless to say, nothing happened.
How is this a superstition?
I was Literature Servant for years and didn't open many a box. Because the comtents have to be counted and checked before being handed out. Never had any sister or brother go into shock because I didn't.
Despite all this, not even one solitary demon has infested my place
Maybe because they don't have to, no longer believe in God, job done.

JW weddings gone bad. A story from my old congo.
by uwishufish inmiddle tenn late 70s.
first there was the child the high school girl had out of wedlock.
the term rape was bandied about after she began to show.

Having read through these wedding stories I've been thinking "We had one like that and one like that and one like that....Know of one like that."
Elders daughter marrying Min Servant. Elders daughter 6 months pregnant they only got reproved. Also later discovered that the Min Servant was having affairs with women. here, there and everywhere.
Sister marries a brother, who had been married before and divorced. Afterwards sister discovers the guy is incapable of having sex. Which is why his first wife divorced him, and the Elders knew all about it. That one was the subject of a TV program.
Brother and a sister in early 20's get married. About a year later its discover husband been having an affair --- with the guy who had been best man at wedding.
Its all more cases showing that JWs are no different than any others when it comes down to all.
Just that the WT like to keep it all under wraps and present the "clean and pure" front.
