How many here turned Athiest or did not and why??

me i slowly came to see religion was a crutch we use to dream of a better "afterlife"....i feel half my life was wasted building an organisation that had no criminal mastermind behind it...just alot of mislead people looking for leadership.

I believed the Watchtower at one time, then clung onto belief in God for a little while after I left the WTS.

Now, I don't believe in God. I have no faith in him at all.

Having faith doesn't really mean much - you can't just will God into existence with your faith. Similarly, if God does in fact exist, atheists saying 'there is no God' wouldn't make a scrap of difference. He either exists or not.

Another thing is this: how could you conduct an investigation into the possible existence of God? There are no tests you could do, no data to collect to try and answer the question.

If there is a God or an afterlife, I'll find out on my death bed. What I won't do is waste my life trying to find him.

I have a finite time on this planet and I should put that time to good use - it would be silly of me not to do so.

Fantastic , you forget how good some of this early stuff is - quite right, Jan. It's timeless.

The way he played guitar while making it seem absolutely effortless was incredible - yeah, Hendrix could make that guitar sing, howl, or pretty much do anything he wanted. Dude was a natural.

@Punk - you and your band are singing Purple Haze? Hope it goes well.

yeah, so i bought this film on dvd a few weeks ago.. it's about an 18-year-old girl, ellie turner, who goes to study fashion at a london uni.

she likes the fashions and culture of the 60s.

while staying at her student room, she discovers a way to somehow go back in time to the 60s, where she meets a glamorous singer sandie, played by anya taylor-joy.

Yeah, so I bought this film on DVD a few weeks ago.

It's about an 18-year-old girl, Ellie Turner, who goes to study fashion at a London uni. She likes the fashions and culture of the 60s. While staying at her student room, she discovers a way to somehow go back in time to the 60s, where she meets a glamorous singer Sandie, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. It's lovely and glamorous at first, but gets darker, with Ellie's state of mind deteriorating more and more.

The two main characters, Ellie and Sandie, are well-acted.

The sound track is excellent, too.

The only gripe I have with this film is the ending - I think there may be one twist too many.

But all in all pretty damn good.

have received news of the passing of alan fuerbacher today having just turned 70 years of age.

alan was an earlier and frequent poster on this forum and was a strident critic of wt bible chronology.

i enjoyed the continuous debate on matters relating to 607 bce and will miss his intellectual contributions and his scholarship even though i disagreed with much of his contributions on this subject.

I didn't interact with him on this forum but I did manage to read some of his posts while lurking, plus I googled his take down of the Biblical flood, which was a very good piece of scholarly work.

A very intelligent guy who will be missed.

you're hard pressed to spot truth these days.. however, i'm told that the rona is now just a rotten flu and not the plague we were originally terrified in to believing.

last time i heard it was down in the hit parade to 16th nasty health thing.. all the people and family i know that have had the rona, have been complaining it's a very crappy flu.

Take the flu. Some people are vulnerable, and they are given shots every winter.

Everyone else just gets on with life ...

I think this is one issue where most politicians would have preferred to never have had to make many of the really hard decisions they had to make - maybe so, but when it came to granting emergency powers they champed at the bit.

There needs to be a rigorous enquiry into the UK government's handling of the pandemic.

Everything - the stats of Covid deaths need examining (how many died of Covid v how many died with Covid), the science behind mandatory masks and 2m distance, 'rule of six', the whole damn lot.
