lol. This question is like asking "Which one of the Three Stooges should I follow for life advice?" :)

Things Rutherford got wrong that Fred Franz had to clear up
by slimboyfat ini was interested by the suggestion in a recent discussion that rutherford was in some way preferable to fred franz, because i’ve not come across this view before.
it made me rethink my assumptions and try to work out why i hold the opposite view and prefer fred franz to rutherford.
i haven’t done any additional research, so i’m only drawing on what i can remember off the top of my head, but i thought i’d list a few things where i reckon fred franz’s approach was preferable to rutherford.

What is the Craziest Thing You Are Aware Of Someone Being Disfellowshipped For?
by Sea Breeze ini knew a lady who was disfellowshipped for 20 years for smoking.
she finally went back to the kh and since they couldn't find her paperwork, (all the former elders were dead) she was allowed back in without reinstatement.
no one even remembered her.

To me, the craziest thing is that the ones who NEEDED to be shunned skated. They simply denied and counter-alleged. "I want to face the two 'false' witnesses who slandered me.
Example. One famous molester of SIX JW children did the above denials when confronted by the untrained elders who followed HQ orders by NOT calling the police. Child molester/online pornographer simply walks out while the stunned elders have another meeting, goes home, and destroys all evidence. Child molester then calls and threatens all victims, parents, and "witnesses," with more denials, Lawsuits, and disfellowshipping for slander, etc, etc.
Soon, the two adult "witnesses" have "accidents". One healthy young woman dies of an "asthma attack'..with missing medication. Another "commits suicide"...357 in the face.. Eventually, someone disobeys Watchtower HQ and calls the cops.
Cops did the best job they could, but the crime scene had been scrubbed, all evidence destroyed, the victims scrubbed clean, adult witnesses dead, the case tainted, and young victims terrified. The local body of window washers had destroyed any chance of a sound and timely case/trial.
The perp gets a great attorney and walks. Disappears to start all over 100 miles away. Moves two more times at least 100 miles, and gets appointed as an MS servant!!!
Meanwhile, little old sisters sheepishly confess to eating birthday cake, extra nips of brandy nightcaps, or middle-aged singles ride bikes with "worldly men" and get disfellowshipped.
Angelic direction...my a**

Wow. Criminals.
I hope he can get some free assistance from the Penn. State Attorney General, who seems hot on the trail to bust Watchtower.

Did the Fred Franz style of writing cease after he died?
by SydBarrett ini was completely out by 1991 and 1989 would have been the last time i had to attend regularly.
that over the top franz writing style was still there in the 1980's although i've heard he wasn't actually doing much writing by then.
but his style was definitely picked up and imitated for many years beyond its wacky, outlandish peak of the the 50's - 70's.

Ah...a new thread on Franz, Knorr...and let's toss in Chitty Bang Bang, Greenleess, and Jaractz.
I grew up just outside San Francisco and was unbothered by and used to alternative lifestyles. Bethel was a real shock, however.
Half asleep, adjusting to the time zone difference with extra coffee and bad baked eggs, while Knorr droned on about Bethel massage parties/orgies and how many had been disfellowshiped and kicked out that week. Even half asleep... I realized this was a strange new world order.....

An elder I knew 25+ years ago used to visit a radium mine for arthritis treatments with his wife. He swore by them for reducing arthritis pain. ...He and his wife painfully died of cancer a few years later.
The same genius who disfellowshipped a sister for riding her bike with a "worldly man".
Brings to mind the Pew study showing JWs, on the whole, the poorest and least educated religion in the USA.

Did the WT Policy on Lying Bother You When You Were a JW?
by Sea Breeze inhere's the wt standard for lying: "while malicious lying is definitely condemned in the bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it" - insight pp.
244-245. vs. websters dictionary:.
lie, noun.

It always rubbed me the wrong way. 100% unscriptural. As the years rolled on, it became a keystone belief with Watchtower HQ in dealing with governments and even publishers.

An exElder who is a member here told me his crazy story at the Tahoe Apposta fest. He was disfellowshipped in absentia by Watchtower HQ for telling the TRUTH under oath in court in a child abuse case. He was instructed to lie by HQ...he told the truth instead, and was disfellowshipped for rebellion. Who does the Bible say is the "father of the lie?" hummm

Around 2001, a divorced middle-aged sister was seen cycling with a single middle-aged doctor one afternoon. The elders questioned her about it, and she told them, "Nothing happened, and it was none of their business." They disfellowshipped her for "rebelliousness and a Jezebel attitude." Weird...and mean.
