Great thread. Made me think while reading a News story yesterday about ISIS. Invasion, execution, forced "marriage" of young girls.....the SAME ........
All those years as a JW.......how did that go over my head?????????????????
i have heard so many jws complain about isis and how cruel and sadistic and pitiless they are.
all my mind can think about is how their techniques are so similiar to the ancient israelites under joshua that the jws feel are heroes and champions of true worship.. role models for kids.
isis believes that non-believers who do not subscribe to their world view should be killed in brutal ways.

just curious.
"touching the unclean thing" or working for or attending "babylonish" church service or functions was taboo in the past for jws.
has this changed recently???.

The reason I ask is a local JW elders wife is all over the net with Wedding & Baptisim her photo business at Catholic and other churches....and she misses her JW meetings on Sunday in order to work inside these "false" churches for a little $$. Is this new? Or just an Elders wife's special exemption?
Personally I could care less (and I hope it is because she has learned TTAT) , but I remember struggling JWs having to turn down simple repair, roofing, and painting jobs for churches in the past. In a few cases they lost good construction jobs because of this and had severe financial difficulties. Nuu Nuu light??? Double standard?? or......?

Jose Trigueiros grew up in Lisbon in a family of Jehovah's Witnesses, and as a young child he accompanied his devoted mother on door-to-door visits spreading their message and handing out publications. His film, "Dios Por El Cuello" ("God by the Neck"), is the winner of the NY Portuguese Short Film Festival that will hold a free New Bedford premiere 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in the Whaling Museum Theater.
"What's really interesting, I think, all of the films are either produced in Portugal or produced by Portuguese filmmakers," said Stephanie Poyant Moran, senior director of marketing and public relations for the Whaling Museum.
The festival, the first Portuguese short film festival in the United States, is held annually in New York and Lisbon and has debuted in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasil, and Angola's capital city of Luanda. New Bedford's premiere is the result of a partnership with New York-based producer and host Arte Institute and in local partnership with the Portuguese consulate in New Bedford.
"We're really excited about this partnership. We were actually approached so it's really exciting that it's coming to New Bedford and we have an opportunity to share," said Moran, noting that the lineup of 18 short films includes a promotional short for another featured film. "(The films are) very, very different. Some are within a two-minute time frame — really short."
Trigueiros is part of a new generation of young Portuguese filmmakers gaining exposure through the festival in several countries. His film is a reality-based fiction among animations and documentaries.
In "God by the Neck," an 8-year-old boy likes a girl from school, but instead of going to a party for their class he must make his first door-to-door voyage at his mother's side.
"It didn't traumatize me, and this film is not supposed to criticize Jehovah's Witnesses in any way," said Trigueiros in a subtitled-in-English interview that can be viewed online at artinstitute.org. "This film intends to talk about forms of misguided love. ... The Jehovah's Witnesses were a pretext since it's a reality that was very close to me. In the film school they said to us, 'This is your first short film so tell a story that is intimate and personal in such a way that you can be close to that story. That was the starting point."
"God by the Neck" and the rest of the films in the festival will be shown in English or with English subtitles. The program will be divided into two 90-minute blocks separated by a 30-minute intermission with refreshments courtesy of the Arte Institute.
The event, also sponsored by the William M. Wood Foundation, is free, but with the Whaling Museum theater's 230-person capacity reservations are being recommended via registration at www.whaling museum.org or by calling (508) 997-0046 ext. 100. For more information, visit www.whalingmuseum.org
catholic workers ordered to attend jehovahs witness meetingseptember 8, 2014 by mary maria leave a comment.
san francisco, california in an interesting case of religious rights in the workplace, the 9th circuit court of appeals has ruled that employees of the san gabriel/pomona regional center must attend services from the kingdom hall of the jehovahs witnesses.
the protestant church is not exactly known for its ecumenical cooperation or respect for the catholic church which it often decries as being a supreme object over the whole earth that rhymes with the word lore.. at issue is a five year dispute brought on by catholic employees who care for a disabled man at the facility.
The old JW is no doubt broke= no help from JW land.
so i'm having a pint and talking to the owner and his gf.. she's talking about her line of work - leads to my family history - and that my wife is in a strange religion.. the owner snorts, and says very disdainfully that his ex was a jehovah's witness.
i said bingo.. then the barmaid pipes in about her grandma and all of her aunts and uncles were witnesses, and were all out.
but the grandma has witness siblings, so went back after 20 years.
Pew reseach had an article that 2/3 of Jehovah's Witnesses are EX. Almost 8 mil active =16 million EX Jws now. Still a small number compared to any mainstream Religion.

Curious if the patients spiritual "brothers" were willing to assist during meetings...or if the elders decided he should just miss the meeting.
is there any way we can try to start a crowd-fund to help terry get some wheels quicker than he currently can?
with craigslist and a couple of bucks from a few members we can help terry get moving.
does anyone have any ideas how we can do a "theists for terry" bike fund raiser and challenge the atheists to a bucket-head challenge?
Was a great post and idea. Glad we could help. Don't forget a small can of pepper spray for 2 & 4 legged animals. Works like a charm.

San Francisco, California – In an interesting case of religious rights in the workplace, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that employees of the San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center must attend services from the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s witnesses. The protestant church is not exactly known for its ecumenical cooperation or respect for the Catholic Church which it often decries as being a supreme object over the whole earth that rhymes with the word “lore”.
At issue is a five year dispute brought on by Catholic employees who care for a disabled man at the facility. The man is a Jehovah’s Witness and would like to attend services for his faith. The trouble is that his disability requires physical assistance to and from the place of worship and constant monitoring. This means those workers providing aid to him would effectively have to sit through the meetings. The workers sternly objected to attending the services claiming that Catholic dogma forbids attending worship at other churches. To bolster their position, they cited Title 7 regarding the rights of workers which requires employers to make “reasonable accommodation” to the honest beliefs and practices of religious adherents.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decided that “reasonable accommodation” does not mean the employer has to accommodate the religious beliefs of their employees. Presumably, in the case of the San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center, an effort was made to find someone capable of assisting the disabled patient whose religious sensitivities would not be offended. This was not possible. In the end, the judges cited the fact that the disabled man also had the right to be treated. Also, the attorneys for the workers failed to make the case that standing by as mere observers at the church would be akin to being compelled to worship in a manner contrary to their religious beliefs
it takes time to stop thinking or reacting like a jehovah's witness.. are you still judgmental?
a know it all?
a person that listens more with their heart instead of their head---like jehovah's witnesses ???.
I became a nicer person. Less of an ASS...not completely cured yet... per the wife.
this is a true experience that i thought i would share, one that occurred just a few years ago in my area.
it is a real experience, nothing made up here.. a younger couple moved into our kh, into the joining congregation (so not ours, but the other one that shared our kh).
they seemed nice enough, they had one boy that was about 8, and a baby on the way.
Not unusual. The person reporting the facs is the one hounded. Seen it in my area as well.
