In the '70s in NYC, I seem to remember $17.00 per month plus a travel allowance (subway fare for 3 round trips per week). An annual clothing payment of 150.00? USD.
I am glad I had some savings and proceeds from the sale of a car, and a garage sale.

What is your favorite RIDICULOUS falsehoods? I'll go first. Rainbows never occurred before Noah left the ark some 3 or 4 thousand years ago (somehow when light refracted off of water prior to that, nothing happened), and we were gonna have a paradise with vegan lions."
Sooooo what are your favorite ridiculous falsehoods???? :)

Waking Them Up When They Feel Safe
by KerryKing ingood morning all, i would love some genuine advice please.. i have an old friend who is still in the org, but has never been the very staunch type.
however, she is going through a very rough patch in life, (past deeds from youth caught up and now is in prison) and i reached out to her by old fashioned snail mail.. by her reply she sounds more pimi than ever and finding some sort of comfort in the literature.
would i be wrong to attempt to wake her up, would that actually be a cruel thing to do right now?

Provide Ray Franz's book.
Some people are where they need to be, no other "tribe" will accept them.
Waking some people up is like smashing a 3 yr olds belief in Santa Claus. Why do it?

Constant Pleas For Money
by NotFormer init comes up from time to time: that the wt's "constant pleas for money" signifies their precarious financial state due to the pressure of the csa settlements.
is there any way of demonstrating that to be a fact?
i ask because i've always been under the impression that "constant pleas for money" is the default state of the organisation, possibly going back to rutherford's time.

Why? It works. lol :)
Ask any professional panhandler.
Applying logic to religion and cults is a waste of mental energy.

Disaster preparedness
by ElderBerry inas your family considers its disaster preparedness plan, please ensure that the secretary has up-to-date contact information for you and your emergency contact.
also, we have re- peatedly seen good results when brothers and sisters are prepared with go bags and are ready to obey direction when they face various kinds of disasters.
please be sure you have a go bag, and review its contents at least once a year.

Mike JW. I think you have not been watching what Watchtower ACTUALLY does when there is ZERO financial gain in helping poor publishers.
The Bible mentions caring for widows and orphans over 60 times.
A famous Non-JW quote is: "The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members." -Mahatma Gandhi.
Watchtower commands the widows, fatherless boys, and poor seniors and single moms to: 1. Travel hundreds of extra miles to "assigned" conventions to stay at "recommended" motels (that pay kickbacks). ..when closer or less expensive options exist. 2. Travel further at night to attend faraway kingdom halls after theirs have been liquidated. 3. Not sue or report "brothers" who have bilked them $$$ or physically or financially abused them. 4. Refuse to repay loans from seniors and then threaten disfellowshipping if threatened with legal action. 5. For over a century hid child rapists. ...the list goes on.
Do you really believe these corporate shysters should be relied upon during a disaster?

Redding Drama
by Bill Covert inif any one was so inclined to go back to 2013 on the site and locate the posts on the note takers reporting on the 2013 convention [the release of the rnwt and gb demanding obedience] there were two note takers who reported on the main talk "human apostates" that there was a new tactic being used, letter writing to the publishers homes.
the main subject of those letters was a elder joe moore.
on 12-26-2007 i taped court case #149893 to kh doors.

Bill, copying members' introductory bios and "posting them on Kingdom Hall doors" is against the group's spirit of confidentiality and "terms of service".Simon has every right to ban you.
As any member here who has broken bread with us in person on the West Coast can attest we are not the "Moores".
Bill had you taken your "evidence" to the police, Cal DOJ, and the District Attorney, you could have helped current and past victims. Taping bizarre and convoluted rants to kingdom hall doors accomplishes nothing, it only antagonizes people...including your family.
PS. Wishing to "out" members and give anyone a literal heart attack is sick and twisted.

Crisis of Conscience
by Freeatlast2024 inthis is my first time posting to this forum.
let me start by saying i was born and raised as a jehovah’s witness.
i’m thankful that i was raised this way, because i feel it protected me in some ways, especially with regard to moral issues.

Welcome to the group! Congrats on opening your eyes.
Ray and Cynthia were very bright, kind, and engaging people. True believers who walked the walk but were bothered by institutionalized hypocrisy.
I enjoyed knowing them at Bethel and enjoyed their hospitality at their modest Bethel room.
Keep in mind Bethel is compartmentalized and it is quite possible Ray was unaware of the size of some of the issues like child molestation. "Idle" talk of "things that were not upbuilding" was always frowned upon at Bethel.
