How much sediment would have been moved in Noah's flood?
by Zoos ini flew over this crate yesterday on my return home from las vegas.. .
they say this crater was created by an asteroid about 50,000 years ago.
then about 6000 years ago, presumably, god wiped out all life on earth with a global flood.. how much sediment would have been moved around during that flood.

End of mysteries. In Gilgamesh I believe there was even an ark of sorts that came to rest on the top of a mountain? -

I adore debunking the flood story!
Every ancient culture has some story of a flood probably because floods can happen and do happen everywhere. These days we know why this is but in the stone age or bronze age they made up stories to explain it.
For the sake ofargument though, if there really had been a global flood, which moved the continents/mountains/valleys to their current position ( as JW's claim) that would have destroyed every last land growing vegetation. The ground afterwards would be a wasteland of mud, sand and rocks. No seeds or bulbs would have survived and it is doubtful that the ground would be in a fit state to grow anything in.
In short there is no way that a olive tree could have survived for Noah's dove to pluck a sprig off!

plagiarism in the bible- what I have learnt part one

Magnum. I would recommend any books about the gods, myths and legends of the Egyptian, Babylonian, Greek and even Roman cultures. There are e books aplenty on the subject and most of them can be brought for pocket money prices.
In addition I recommend such forums and websites as thethinkingatheist.com
And also iron chariots.org

Blues brother, the answer to the jw retort that it all came from the same source etc is... The Egyptian, Babylonian and Greek legends have all been shown to pre date any written Jewish texts by centuries in some cases. From an archaeological viewpoint the Torah is very young.
So if "Jehovah" really wanted his law and name to be known then why did all these other ( far more advanced cultures) come up with the same ideas way in advance?
These other sources do not predate the creation of the first man ( as the bible would understand it) but they do pre date the time that the bible says man was created.

I have recently been studying the myths and legends of other pre- Jewish cultures. Such as Babylonian, Egyptian and Greek. These stories and beliefs are all pre dating the writing of the Jewish Torah and the new testament.
What I have discovered over and over again are not only similarities but whole concepts and tales that are almost identical to those found in the so called inspired word of god.
When you consider that the bible freely admits that the Jews were assimilated into both the Babylonian and Egyptian culture at points in their history it becomes easy to see were their ideas and stories came from.
In short the bible is a mid mash of flagrantly plagiarised stories and myths. It makes for very interesting reading as a course of study I highly recommend it. Its especially good reading material during the meetings! I mean reading on a tablet of course... Whose to know the difference?

Anyway I've been really noticing how at every meeting it seems there's yet another new thing that needs funding or another reminder to donate. It also seems that these moments when they ask for money are getting longer and longer and the language is getting more and more loaded? Before long they will be giving whole talks about needing money!
Whatdo you think? And do you know of any other jw's noticing/ commenting on this?

shortsighted subjective thinking...
by purrpurr ini overheard a comment recently at the meeting.
it was said how beautiful jehovah had made the earth and how awfull would the earth be if we didn't have the green plants and vegetation?.
but surely as an indigenous species of this planet we would always find our home beautiful?

But surely as an indigenous species of this planet we would always find our home beautiful? Even if earth had the same features as Mars or the moon? We would then find the rocky dusty red earth beautiful or the deep craters and grey postmarked surface beautiful?
Am I right or wrong?

by purrpurr inat a recent meeting the scripture deu 25:4 was cited "do not muzzle a threshing bull".. it was applied to how the elders in the cong should be obeyed submissively because, they said, to go against the elders authority would be like muzzling a threshing bull???
just one of those times when i'm secretly going " huh?!

i have a theory about the long term doctrine of wt!
by purrpurr ini can see no reason why the gb would want to loosen their grip on their cash cow/ cushy life.
but what will they do in 20,30,50 years?
well i suspect that at some point they will claim that the promised paradise is already here but that it has come in spirtual form.

I can see no reason why the GB would want to loosen their grip on their cash cow/ cushy life. But what will they do in 20,30,50 years? Well I suspect that at some point they will claim that the promised paradise is already here but that it has come in spirtual form. That it's not going to come in earthly form just spiritual form. The old scriptures about the lion lamb etc they can just twist into being symbolic of something of course. Then all they have to do is erase the privous old light and claim that anyone who said the paradise would be earthly were going ahead of the chariot ( 1975 style).
What do you think? They will have to think up something eventually. And let's face it the GB could tell them to take a running jump off the nearest high building and the faithful would do it. But I don't believe that they would risk their cash flow like that.

This is great! Is there any way of getting this into the press more? The more exposure these insane rants get the better! Imagine what kind of reaction jws would get on the ministry if everyone knew about this? No one would take them seriously!
