I'm all for percing. I had an eyebrow ring at one point, thought it looked pretty cool. But those ones up in the upper lip just always look like there's some piece of food or lint or something on the person's face. No offense, just being honest again. If you like it, then rock on.

The Challenge of Being Post Theocratic Men and Women
by Mindchild inthe defining moment that notified us of our expulsion from the borg to living in the real world caught a lot of us at unexpected times and different ages of our lives.
the borg hammer knocked a lot of us flat when we least expected it but what is important is not how you got knocked down but rather if you can pick yourself up.
it?s no secret that many ex-dubs are not able to get mastery over their anger and pain and end up victimizing themselves even more with addictions, or various strategies to avoid the difficult work of re-inventing ourselves.

My guide:
Well trust it to mind to ask the deep questions. Personally, I have no one to look to for moral direction other than myself. I have no higher power to point to and explain where I get my beliefs or why they are right or wrong. But here's me in a nutshell.
I believe that when I make a promise to be monogomos, I will stick to that promise come hell or high water. I also believe that if I am free and single, there is absolutely nothing wrong with one night stands and sleeping around.
I believe that it is a good, decent, and almost dutiful thing to help infirm, retarded, and otherwise unfortunate people when I happen across one that is having trouble. I also believe that there is no problem making jokes about them with my close friends as long as anyone who will be offended is out of earshot.
I believe that I should always try to treat people with respect, dignity, fairness, and honesty. I also believe that if I do this and they turn around and mistreat me, ruthless reciprocity is not only acceptable but often times due.
I guess I am guided by a combination of being a product of the time and place where I happen by chance to be born and my own gut consience, heart, or whatever you wanna call it.

Would You Ever Sue Someone or a Company???
by minimus ini know some people that are "sue-crazy".
if they can sue a store or insurance company over anything, they will.
what would justify suing over a matter, to you?

Personally I feel kind of guilty about this topic. I see a lady spill coffee on herself and sue McDonnalds. I see a robber hurt himself while breaking into a house and sue the homeowner for not having a safe property. I see some idiot walk into a light pole and sue the owner of the parking lot. And I feel disgusted. I just wanna slap these people around a bit and tell 'em to take responsibility for their own actions.
But then, honest with myself as I am, I can't deny that if I had the opportunity to make some big bucks off of a corporation, even though the responsibility is totally mine for whatever lame act I commited, I would probably go for the paycheck.
So I'm no better than those schmucks I hear about on the radio. Would someone teach me how to lie to myself?

A question of culture
by Adam inlast year my girl's daughter was in 3rd grade.
we lived in cupertino, ca.

Of course we are all American in America, we assimilate.
I?m terribly sorry, but I think you need to look up that word before you use it again. Here, let me clue you in.
Assimilating 2 a: to make similar b: to alter by assimilation c: to absorb into the culture or mores of a population or group
As America has grown and developed, immigrants have been absorbed into the culture and mores of the existing population, contributing what they can to it. The multiculturalism movement that is gaining momentum today promotes the opposite of that.
Multiculturalism: of, relating to, reflecting, or adapted to diverse cultures
What multiculturalism promotes is the practice of changing American culture to reflect the practices and beliefs of foreign nations and peoples. It champions the adapting and changing of our own proud traditions and ways of life to suit any and every group of people who come to this country for the purpose of partaking in it?s benefits, without appreciating it enough to conform in the least to the American culture that made those very benefits possible. They are not made similar, they do not absorb the culture or mores of the group. Assimilation, my friend, is on the downslide. What the teacher was trying to get across is, "culture".
Fine. America has a culture. Why couldn?t some kids get American culture across? Are you saying that America doesn?t have its own culture? That American culture is worth less than other cultures or for some other reason isn?t worthy of representation in a lesson which focuses on culture? I would take issue with any of those statements.
To say the kid has no culture is unbelivable !!
The kid does have a culture. Its called American culture.
All of our Ancestors came from somewhere other than the US.
Yes. And all humans are supposed to have come from northern Africa. So whenever there?s a culture day anywhere in the world, the Japanese can?t wear conical hats, the Arabs can?t wear turbans, the East Europeans can?t wear them fuzzy things they like so much, and Americans can?t wear baseball caps. Everyone has to come to class naked. Right? How far back you wanna go? Who gives a damn if the kid?s great great great great great great great great great great grandfather happened to be born somewhere else? The Romans were in the UK for a time, does that mean that on culture day in London, everyone has to eat pizza? The Normans and the Saxons fought for control of England and when the war was over, the victor, who was the invading party, didn?t say that, ?cause we weren?t here first, we can?t have a culture of our own.?
The kid is American. Jean shorts and a t-shirt are American (though note I did not use the word ?exclusively?). Burgers and fries are American. That is her culture.

I thoroughly enjoy expressing my opinion. Though everyone has to make consessions for who the audience is. I would tell my mother things that I wouldn't tell my best friend and visa versa. At my other board, I'm an admin and have been around a long time and have the respect of the people who post there. Here, I only come in once in a while, I'm not an admin, and I am not as close to the posters here as many of you are with each other. So I feel less comfortable expressing my conservative views here than I do expressing my liberal ones over at my other, conservative, board. But I usually speak up anyway.

America, damned if we do, damned if we don't
by Adam ini'm sure you've all heard about that woman who narrowly avoided being stoned to death in nigeria.
stoned to death?
why didn't they just burn her at the stake?
-
Adam
Well, it would be nice if you realized that the USA is not all there is to 'america' - there's Canada and Mexico here in North 'America', and there's also Central 'America', and South 'America', so you're not the only 'americans' around. We are 'americans', too, you don't own the western Hemisphere.
Oh.........my..............god.
Kwitcherbitchen already. Now I've gotta say "USA" and never say "America" unless I'm talking about both continents? You're the kind of person who get teachers fired for using the word nappy. The kind of person who gets a duely elcected politician booted because he said niggardly. Why don't you and your politically correct crew go find someone else to irritate.

Time... time will solve this and man's insatiable desire to be free.
Human civilization certainly seems to be progressing. Some cultures/areas/governments are doing it faster than others, but yes; progress seems inevitable. My question is this: How does America keep from being vilified while this progress goes on when every course of action is gonna be condemmed by someone somewhere?

it seems that women find men attractive with whom they've formed at least some mental/emotional connection
Very astute observation. But just lemme play devil's advocate here for a second and question your theory.
How do you explain the "I'll spread for the drummer" phenomenon?
