by Simon inwe've just been watching an absolutely heart wrenching documentary on itv about a little girl with a very rare disease (progeria) which makes her age prematurely at 10 times the normal rate.
she will be like an old woman by the time she is 10.. they have a meet-up where the little kids with the same condition can play and have fun together and seeing their poor little faces looking so happy is a wonder to behold.
i guess it's easy to forget that inside they are still really little kids.

Yup, sure as shit you can bet that will happen. At the rate we're going, we'll eventualy have to spend 5 minutes unwraping our burger 'cause they'll need a newspaper to fit all the warnings and cautions on it. Like anyone is gonna read that crap anyway. Anyone out there listen to the 30 seconds of speed-speak at the end of car commercials on the radio? Anyone read the micro-print at the bottom of the TV screen telling us vital information about MSRP? Of course not. It's just a bunch of crap that companies need so they can have a legal defense when brainless wonders like these McDonalds nazis come a-suing. I hope McDonalds counter-sues and that the judge gives them 10 years on the charge of severe idocy.

This is right on par with that whole Jackass thing. If I shoot my girlfriend, can I send the employees of Smith & Wesson to prison because guns kill? Think I can make some money by stabing myself and suing Ginsu because knives are sharp? Look! I drove my car off a cliff and now I'm suing God because gravity made the car fall! No wonder other countries look down on Americans. Hell, these kind of people make me embarrased to be the same species.

I am glad for my experience as a JW. It helped me take a serious look at the whole god question and helped me to formulate my answer. Now that I have that answer, I can move onto other things in life without looking back or wondering. Now I consider religion a cop out!

Danger when pumping gas
by xenawarrior ini saw this on a news show last night and i had never heard anything about it before.
since i'm up till all hours of the night, i don't know if it was a prime time news show or late night so i can't tell you the name of the program.. it seems that there is a danger when pumping gas when folks return to sit inside their vehicle etc., they may pick up static electricity and then when going back to the nozzle, a spark from that static electricity can cause an explosion.
rubbing your feet on the carpeted mats or sliding across the seat to get into the glove compartment can all pick up static and then, if the gas nozzle is the next thing you touch, it could cause an explosion.

Better yet, ask them if they would be willing to bet their FAITH on it. If they are so sure that it's so soon, challenge them to quit the religion in 10 years if everything is still business as usual. I remember my step mom when I quit in '94 telling me "you'd better come back soon, it's not far off, look for the signs, you know what they are." Well, shit in the Middle East hasn't gotten one bit more peaceful since then so I doubt anyone will be saying "peace and security" anytime soon. Guess I have a few more years to enjoy living before I have to come back to "the truth."

Petty, I am absolutly opposed with the shcool of thinking that blames everybody for bad behavior except the person acting out the behavior. If a black man robs a store, it is not because there used to be slaves, it's because the man is bad. If someone becomes a prostitute, it's not because Howard Stern has strippers on his show. "it is we as all citizens that should take the blame" Well you go ahead, I'm not taking any blame whatsoever for someone else's stupidity or for another couple's bad parenting. This kid was in high school and should have known better.

1. I saw the movie, and I may be wrong but I don't remember anyone lighting themselves on fire
2. The movie shows Jonny Knocksville being concussed and bleeding from the head. It shows that there are negative consequenses.
3. There is a disclaimer before and after the movie telling people not to do the things in the movie.
4. Anyone stupid enough to pour gasoline on their shirt, put it on, and then light it on fire deserves to be removed from the gene pool for the betterment of the species.
5. It was the kid, not the jackass crew, that lit himself on fire. Blame the right person for this act of idiocy.
6. My girl and I didn't let her daughter watch the movie. Maybe someone should be pointing fingers at the parents of this kid who obviously isn't emotionaly mature enough to know the difference between movies and reality instead of blaming the movie.
I just want to say to all those nothing-better-to-do, self rightous, meddeling, anti-first ammendment, loudmouths that you didn't stop Married With Children, you didn't stop Beavis & Butthead, you didn't stop South Park and you ain't stopping jackass so SHUT UP!

by buckthesystem ini have been reading about the witnesses for some time - but the information i read is always massively biased against.
it is even hard to tell if this web site is exclusively designed for aggrieved ex-witnesses.
i am at a loss here.

Buck, you have said several times that you find ex-JWs to be disproportionaly intense in their feelings toward their former religion. I would ask you to consider that in itself as a very telling indictment of the JW religion. Almost any ex-JW site will end up being an anti-JW site. This is because the JW religion demands nearly inhuman sacrifices of its flock including alienation of family, preventable sacrifice of life, and utter submision to authority in everything. Once a member forces him- or herself to realize the inconsistancies, contradictions, and hypocracy rife withing the organization, they come to the painful understanding that all of their heart wrenching and supremely difficult sacrifices were for nothing whatsoever. That can breed quite a bit of hatred and anger.
