What Convinced you to Leave?

i've been posting here a lot, but these last few weeks have been very difficult for me.

anyways, lately, i've been thinking about confessing everything i've done to the elders and going back, but deep down, i don't really think it's the truth...so my question is, what convinced you it wasn't the truth and that leaving wasn't a horrible decision that everyone in the truth makes it out to be?

LaurenM, its because you're still indoctrinated , that's why you feel its imperative to confess to the elders. Don't make that move. It's dangerous. Rather , focus on your decision, whether to leave or stay in for a while due to family. Psyche yourself up. It's a cult and they won't understand anything contrary to their beliefs. Don't let them guilt-trip you. It's very powerful.

What convinced me to leave:

Higher education

The sole authority the GB had over all witnesses

The fact that they are not willing to hear disagreements with them

And many more.

what do elders do when you inform them that your baptism was invalid?

You cannot get them to annul your baptism. By all means it'll not happen!

The only options are to disassociate, fade or be disfellowshipped.

Are There Good People Out There?

even though i'm no longer mentally a jw (i still technically am) i do recognize that there are some benefits to being raised one.

for example, the first (and only so far) wordly guy i was involved with had to smoke weed every day and got drunk all the time and that was his idea of fun.

i couldn't help but feel bad for him.

I think there are benefits to being raised in an "open-minded" JW home but there are sooo many very good people with very good intentions out there just as there are many good people in the org too. I know some dubs who were raised in 'loving ' homes but abused drugs and crack and alcohol and lived promiscuous lives. So your case doesn't prove anything. Bad people are everywhere.

after listening to the hearings of the australian royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse, i am no longer content to have simply walked away from the organization.

as a matter of conscience, i do not want my name linked with the organization in any way.

i know this letter has been posted previously, and i thank the author.

Nice letter, but I doubt if they'll not announce it. They will announce it and they won't care about your legal threats.

I think he will go with honesty. He will admit that there are flaws. He will do this just to "prove" to dubs that the org is very honest to worldly governments . the most honest of all religions.

he knows that's how a good god operates, so the first thing he does when installed as heavenly ruler... .

he casts the ultimate tempter to the vicinity of the earth... so he can do it as much as possible.... has anyone ever noticed this flaw in the almighty ... he has to be told to do what is good , then doesn't do it ... man what a tool.. i guess he really does love us... lol.

The Case for Theism

"theism" here means "belief in a god" or "the worldview that an intelligent designer created the universe and life.

" ("god" here means a being with a mind who initiated and/or wound-up the universe, and designed life on earth)the most common claim that i see atheists making on twitter, is that "no evidence" exists in support of belief in a god.this post will remove any excuse atheists have for claiming "no evidence exists" in support of an initiator.

atheists can still reject this evidence as "weak," but they cannot truthfully say it does not exist.now, it is true that we do not have "observable, repeatable, falsifiable, empirical, scientific" evidence conclusively proving that an initiator exists, but we do have many lines of philisophical, experiential, and logical evidence.and... here... we... go:1:) many leading scientists, including stephen hawking, say that the space-time-matter universe had a beginning at the singularity/big bang.

It amazes me how atheists can be SO certain that there is no God. At least having an agnostic view is plausible.

Rumor about the Imitate Jesus Convention

i saw a rumor a few weeks ago on reddit that the new imitate jesus convention is supposed to present new light and clarified understandings on the disfellowshipping/disassociation practices.. supposedly, if this rumor has any truth to it, there will be a talk given at the convention about how we should not be strict like the pharisees in how we shun people, loosening up some of the jw rules about this practice.. has anyone here heard anything about this or have more info on it?.

The regional convention is all about Jesus, compete with a music video presentation. This should be the beginning of the org becoming mainstream. No org can remain so rigid forever. The catholic church is an example.
