Moving to the USA?

Little Toe- a good friend of mine lives in Las Cruces. She and her hubby both think it's wonderful, but pretty danged hot.

As far as I'm concerned, coastal Maine has it over the rest of the US, as far as climate and culture are concerned ( Insomniac ducks, as Country Girl hurls a Texas cowflap at her head in retribution for this insult). Honestly, up here we're comfortably set apart from the rest of the states, but still, one hour's drive south takes me to an excellent blues club ( Ray LaMontagne, anyone?), 2 1/2 hours will take me to Cambridge/Boston for the evening, and a mere 7 hours gets me into Manhattan, so we're not entirely isolated. In general, the US is a great place to live, but the farther Northeast you go, the better.

hey all of you survivors.

i was wondering, i once joined the ex-jw meetup website thing and within one day, two "sisters" came to my door ...coincidentally.

anyone else have this happen to them??

I joined xjw meetup awhile ago, although I would rarely ever be able to actually attend. I did get to one meetup, however, and I got to meet some of the coolest, nicest folks imaginable- including one really well-known apostate guy who told me that just being seen with him was a disfellowshipping offense, no questions asked. I think he said that to be funny.

When you signed up, did you use your real name, or some sort of alias? It's possible that the elders do keep tabs on that site, and if your real name is posted, along with the town you live in, they'd be aware of your activity. Whatever the case may be, I hope that you're able, as I was, to make some new friends at the meetup.

I saw this last night, and laughed my ass off! Especially the big dance number at the end- effing hilarious! It's the kind of movie that won't sound funny if you describe it to someone, though- they just have to see it to get it.

If You HAD To Be Disfellowshipped For Something, What Would It Be?

OK, if I had to get df'd, here's a good scenario:

It's a beautiful, sunny day- a perfect day for field service. All the good dubbies are out knockin', but not Insomniac. In her two-door car, she drives (well over the speed limit) to the YMCA to work out- gotta look good in all them miniskirts, ya know. Lo and behold, they're having a blood drive, so she offers up some of her vital juice to the cause. Then, with Nine Inch Nails blasting on her sound system, she drives to the mall, where she buys a set of Rider-Waite tarot cards and a big ol' crucifix to wear around her neck (contrary to popular belief, crosses won't burn her skin). Then it's off to the bookstore to buy Crisis of Conscience, Blood on the Altar, and the Quran. She sees an elder looking funny at her- maybe he's just noticed her "I Bill Bowen" tattoo, or her multiple piercings. Whatever; after mouthing off to him in a most unsubmissive way, she pinches him hard on the butt and leaves. Later, while browsing the s&m supplies at a sex shop, she notices a guy watching her. He's a dead ringer for Mel Gibson in Braveheart, except in pants of course. She takes him home, and after watching some porno while smoking some reefer, they engage in several deviant forms of sex. That's how I'd want to go.

when i first met my wife, she was not a jw.

i was baptized at the age of 12. to make a long story short, some of the other youths in the congregation followed my lead and took non jw boyfriends and girlfriends.

well the brothers decided to point me out specifically as i was the only one who cared.

Ah, Dustin sweetie, you and your wife didn't do anything wrong. Heck, Jesus himself associated with everybody, even those not of his faith, and he was only judgmental with the snotty Pharisees who tried to turn spirituality into a bloody conformist's club.

I was still a witness when I met the man who became my partner. Not wanting to feel sneaky or underhanded about my relationship, I refused to keep him secret. Not that I could have kept such a secret in the small town where I live! I think that's what angered the congregation the most, my "lack of shame". But as you know, Dustin, love is nothing to be ashamed of. I'm glad that you and your lady stuck together.

How Many of you were bitten by a dog?

i use to think that going door to door had its hazardous moments, but the time i was bitten by a dog wow.

that was scary.

i still can't figure out why the mutt bit me as i love animals.

Never bitten in service, but a couple of months ago I went to service a newer account for my business, and the homeowner had left her dogs running loose. Sure enough, the little Jack Russell terrier laid in wait and got me on the arm, just as I opened the door. It really sucked, because, well, it's just ridiculous and humiliating to be attacked by something smaller than my purse. It left one hell of a bruise, though.

Big Tex- I can sympathize with you; I too was attacked (unprovoked) by a goat. They are vicious beasts, and don't let anyone tell you different.

It feels like my first Christmas!

many of you have read my posts this past year and know i've felt somehow disapointed in the holidays.

the idea of the magical euphoroic feeling i expected always seemed to be missing.

the last thread i wrote on holidays, many of you gave me a lot of food for thought regarding the holidays becoming more real when i start creating my own traditions, so they become special to me.

Darlin Sassy, I'm so sorry- for you, me, and everybody- who had childhoods without Christmases, and who had to deal with all the b.s. associated with having non-witness loved ones; I'm currently trying to forge a closer relationship with my aunty, with whom I haven't talked much for most of my life, as she's a Catholic, and a nun. It's so cool that you got to have Christmas with your dad!

I LOVED the Christmas card you sent me- y'all are a cute couple! However, as I've said before, I'd still card you before selling you any liquor, you look about 20 yrs old in all your pics!

Sexual Harassment

i thought i'd pose a question especially (but not exclusively) for the girls regarding sexual harassment.

what would you deem as unfitting behaviour?.

is it appropriate for a guy to ask if you are wearing any panties?

OK, I'm back from work. Little Toe asked me (about 4 pages back) if there might be extenuationg circumstances- I think that was the expression he used. I think my experience with my old boss sums it up well, in that, while he was a natural-born flirt (with absolutely everyone) he respected those around him, and their boundaries. One lady at work was pretty reserved, and he was careful not to tell her the really bawdy jokes that the rest of us got a laugh over. And, when asked to stop, he always did, most graciously. Sexual harrassment is when the individual does not respect your wishes, won't stop the behavior.

I was sorta joking when I made my comment about kilts arousing lustful thoughts in ladies, LT. I have a gentleman friend in my town who wears a kilt pretty often, and a landscaper in town wears this kind of buckskin skirt thing (not a kilt) when he's working. So, I'm rather accustomed to the sight of a man's knees, and while I do find it quite an attractive look on most fellas, it's also not likely to make me forget I'm a lady. If you're kilted in Dallas, I promise I'll be nice.

So much depends upon the situation. I had a boss who was quite handsome, charming, and (ain't it always the way?) gay. He used to tell the occasional risque' joke to the ladies who worked for him, and liked to walk around the back of the store shirtless when it was hot. None of us felt threatened by him at all. He knew where to draw the line, and if we told him to knock it off, he would. Eventually he hired another man to help out, and the situation changed drastically. This guy liked to make lewd comments to a couple of the women, and was always trying to cop a feel. The difference was, we didn't consider this guy a friend, and his comments weren't meant to be funny, he was trying to make us uncomfortable. After several warnings, we all voted to have him fired, and our boss did so that day.

Regarding guys in drag or in kilts: Accord them the same respect you'd want someone to give you. No prying questions, no lewd jokes, no peeking. However, gentlemen in kilts should be aware that ladies can't help the lustful thoughts that such clothing arouses in them, and should conduct themselves accordingly.
