I've met some of the guys on this site, and they're pretty much all hot. I guess all the really cute fellas end up going apostate, eventually.

A PUZZLING QUESTION...????...????...????
by Terry inthe "sacred secret" of god that creation was yearing to glimpse for so long was jehovah's plan of salvation and righteous government rescue operation.. yet, pagans, heathens and various crackpot primitives all came up with the same plan long before jehovah's was "revealed".
something smells bad about this!!.
i find it puzzling.. child sacrifice to appease wrathful deities is a disgusting solution to crop failure.

Terry, some of us here on the board are proud to call themselves Pagans. My religious practice is rooted in peace. I would prefer if you not refer to my faith as "the abortive and brutal nonsense of pagan theology."
Perhaps if my religion celebrated a god who watched a righteous man like Job lose his wealth, his children, his own health, all in order to settle a bet with Satan, or who allows his own son to be tortured to death, in order to prove a point...then you could call my religion "brutal nonsense."
Christians have no need to feel embarrased for having taken many of their traditions from Paganism; they ought to be proud.

nvrgnbk-
I was just beginning to get to know you, man! You seem like a cool person, and it looks like a lot of people on this forum hold you in high esteem. If you're feeling frustrated, try taking a few days off to get some perspective, but then I hope you'll come back.
Oh, and when you do come back, ya better have my poutine, and it better not be cold! I'm starting to get hungry.

I've met a whole bunch of crazy apostates in person at an apostafest in Dallas a couple of years ago: Elsewhere, Valis, FMZ, Rabbit, Hemplover, sixofnine, Badger, Xena, LittleToe, and so many others. They were all really nice, normal people, umm, mostly anyway!
Country Girl was my roomie at the hotel during that fest, and I know her from when I was a kid. As awesome as she is on this forum, you really need to meet her face to face to appreciate what an amazing person she is- compassionate, fiercely loyal, frighteningly intelligent. A force to be reckoned with. Very cool to have re-connected with her on this forum.

Crazy-Ass Apostates
by GetBusyLiving inwhats the most outrageous thing you have ever heard of an apostate doing to get back at the witnesses?
a while back on here i heard of some guy that was hugely pissed about the 1975 fiasco.
he dressed up in one of those ancient drama outfits and stormed the stage at a convention screaming, " i'm the faithful and discreet slave!!!!".

I heard there was some guy in the 80's who used to dress up in a big Mr. Coffee costume and hang out in front of Brooklyn Bethel. My brother said he was an apostate and used to speak in tongues or have seizures, something like that. Though I don't get the point of the costume; it sounds like a joke, but I've heard about this guy from several people.

How Many People Here Have Been "Disciplined" By The Elders?
by minimus inby "discipline" i mean, either private, public reproof, disfellowshipping or something that got you in enough trouble that you had to be counseled by the loving shepherds and it cost you something by not having "privileges".
-

I used to get "counseled" pretty frequently, like when I ran away from home to escape a child molester the elders refused to do anything about. I got in trouble for being rebellious, and for using foul language (the day my stepfather tried to rape me, while trying to fight him off, I called him a bastard. Very un-Christian of me, I know.) The only time I got reproof and lost my privileges, though, was for the horrible crime of peircing my nose. The cool thing was, after a month or two of not doing talks in the ministry school, I realized how much I hated the school; when my reproof was over, I declined to participate in the school anymore. It was nice to cross that one off my list.

Mincan, may I respectfully suggest that Marijuana may not be the cause of your memory loss and loss of mental accuity? In my experience, reefer is far less damaging to one's thought process than is overuse of alcohol. Three of my friends are frequent smokers, and also happen to be three of the most intelligent and articulate people I know. My friends who are heavy drinkers, however, are a bit on the simple side. When I drink, I lose i.q. points at a rapid rate, but when I smoke, it's more like a veil has been lifted, and I think quite clearly. Also, while alcohol depresses me to a dangerous degree, a quick smoke makes me happy and gregarious.
Please understand, I am not trying to insult you, only to share what my experience in these matters has been.

Showing love by sleeping with prostitutes and encouraging wrongdoing ...
by Frequent_Fader_Miles infurther to my earlier post about the conversation i had with a depressed jw friend who was baptized at 12 years old .... she knows i married a non-jw, but doesn't know of my fading.
she asked me whether i would help my husband with christmas shopping and gift wrapping.
of course my answer was yes, but i decided to avoid answering directly and pick her brain a bit.

When I was still a witness, I helped an elderly lady in my town put up her Christmas decorations. I knew the elders would have had a fit over it, but I felt (and still feel) that I did the right thing. She was in her 80's and in poor health, so she had the choice of doing it herself, and possibly falling off the ladder, or foregoing her decorations altogether. Bottom line, I helped her, it made her happy, it hurt nobody, and if anything it left her with a more positive impression of witnesses than if I'd let her fend for herself. It just sucked that I had to ask her to not tell her witness acquaintances so I wouldn't get hauled into a j.c. in the back room.
